Why is Emby sometimes not detecting my folder?

I am using a mounted drive to watch videos from, but it seems like Emby only wants to access the files when it feels like it. I have tried doing this:

sudo usermod -a -G root emby
sudo usermod -a -G etcetera emby

Which worked the first time but then it doesn't anymore. What am I doing wrong?

The folder is /media/etcetera/Etcetera/Anime, but for some reason etcetera can't be accessed.

When I type ls-l in /media, I get this:

drwxrwxrwx+ 4 root root 4096 Sep 27 17:44 etcetera

But when I try to open the folder as user emby, the permission is denied.

the directory is owned by the root group and user, which is the issue.  it also has an ACL associated with it that is also breaking you., or will break you in the future.  parent folders have to have proper permissions as well as the sub folders and files.
