What exactly does Network -> Allow remote connections ... -> Secure connection mode -> "Handled by reverse proxy" do?  How does Emby change behavior when this option is set?

It makes Emby Server aware that https is available so that it can report the correct remote address to apps.

@Luke Can you explain more about what it means for the server to 'report' the address to apps?  If a client connects via HTTPS then it already knows the address.  Are you saying this 'reporting' is like 'advertising' what is available - then how does a remote client get connected to know how to get connected?

I've connected three different ways (with web app), including with a proxy and did not have this setting set, yet it works fine.  The router does all the work, it seems.

Yes but addresses can change, and if we don't handle that then you come back later and tell us there's something wrong with our software. And if the device ever changes networks then it's more optimal to have it be able to auto switch between the lan and wan addresses.
