Tags - Best Practices & Limits

One of my media libraries has several thousand videos. Each video has several tags. Some tags may be used on several hundred videos whereas other tags may only be on a few videos. The issue is that having the hundreds/thousands of tags appears to hit the Emby client really hard in terms of being able to filter by tag - my Emby Android App frequently crashes when attempting to select a tag filter.

I don't really need all the tags to show up in the filter selection, I just want them to link between videos. Collections may be a better option, but it is just so easy to add tags to the nfo files.

Example:

Video A tags: 'red', 'ql', 'short'

Video B tags: 'blue', 'ql', 'short'

Video C tags: 'green', 'ql', 'long'

Video D tags: 'green', 'ql', 'short'

'red': 5 videos

'blue': 4 videos

'green': 3 videos

'ql': 1200 videos

'short': 400 videos

'long': 800 videos

I want to be able to go from Video A to whatever other video's have a 'red' tag. I don't really need to filter to the 'red' tag but I do want to filter to 'ql' tag. Am I asking too much of tags? Is there a better way to link videos with shared types/categories?

Edit: Maybe 'red', 'blue', 'green' should go in the People metadata.

Android app is the beta channel "Emby for Android 3.2.11". I realized I was using tags inappropriately, most of my tags should have been under "People".

The issue with crashing occurred when I had thousands of tags.

I now realize I should be using a combination of tags and cast/crew for my purposes.

OK I can see how this would happen. The checkbox filter list where you select tags for filtering is currently not built for that. Essentially it loads the entire list all at once rather than doing virtual scrolling like we have everywhere else. It is on my to do list to add that to the filter lists.
