Bingie 99 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 I'm trying to figure out which app on my new server downloaded Microsoft Visual C++, and is trying to install it each time I reboot. It's currently in a temp directory. I keep refusing to install it, and I'm gonna delete it. Must've been one of the monitoring utilities I installed. Just wanted to double check here, make sure Emby doesn't need it, before I delete it. Emby appears to be running just fine without it.
Bingie 99 Posted September 21, 2021 Author Posted September 21, 2021 nevermind it was installed with win 10 home, I removed it, don't need that one either
Happy2Play 9784 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 I thought MS Visual C++ was a requirement, version is another story. @Luke
Luke 42085 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 If the server installer prompts you to install it then I would just go ahead and install it.
Happy2Play 9784 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 I guess that is something that needs added to System Requirements if it is a requirement.

I have no idea what wanted me to install it. It's gone. I want an absolute minimal configuration. I'm not installing anything that I don't absolutely require. I removed all the utilities I was testing. I'm guessing it was one of them. I totally hate that whatever program that was trying to install it didn't say "hey I need this app too, please install it". It just assumed I would keep installing everything that pops up on screen. Not this pc.
Happy2Play 9784 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 But it is normal from a new system install standpoint for Emby to want to install Visual C++, but only a dev can comment on if it is a Requirement or not. ET does the same per previous topics. But Microsoft does have many quirks like this. But I believe the setup installer does query your registry looking for a specific version of Visual C++.
Bingie 99 Posted September 21, 2021 Author Posted September 21, 2021 If Emby needs it, that's cool. I installed it. Just wanted to be sure. Thanks everyone!
