Content Not Available Error / Emby Reset (Windows 10)

I'm a long time Emby user who has never had any issues with Emby that weren't related to server hardware, network, etc. but I recently setup a new server and I'm having a problem I can't seem to figure out the cause of.

While watching content from any of the Roku players in our house, we periodically get red, Content Not Available error message that forces us to close the Emby app.  When we try to reopen the app, it waits for a 30s to a couple minutes before presenting the user selection screen.  Typically it just opens up to the Home page because I have auto login enabled.

From what I can tell, it seems like the Emby server applications is restarting because I see a new ffmpeg-remux log with a timestamp right before the error message appeared.  The server itself is not resetting as I can remote in immediately after seeing the error.

It doesn't seem to matter what type of media I'm playing or at least I haven't seen a pattern yet.  I also have not tried from a non-Roku player as that's all we use but I plan on trying from Chrome this afternoon to see if it happens.

The only thing I can consistently find in the logs from around the time the error occurs is:

I've also seen this in the logs a few times recently:

Below are my server's specs and I've attached the most recent Emby log (with debug on) along with the latest ffmepg-remux log.  I sent the developers logs around 2:47 PM CDT from the Roku app.  Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, Do your HDDs spin down or do you keep them spinning all the time?

If a drive is not spinning then it get add significant delay and cause streams to fail.

All my media drives (external) are set for Better Performance/Write Caching and I've verified in the Power Options that USB suspending is off. Anything beyond that I should check?

Also, these drives and settings is how I had the older server setup and I never had this issue.

Thanks!

Try turning of the following option Transcoding->Allow subtitle extraction on the fly if enabled and let us know if this helps.

@cayars  Sorry for the slow reply and thanks for the suggestions but I already had that that option disabled.

Looking back at the log it's showing the Roku has gone idle and BadHttpRequestException: Unexpected end of request content.

Are any of your Roku players connected via Ethernet or do they all use WIFI?
If all on WIFI see if you can as a test connect one by Ethernet to rule out WIFI as an issue.

I would most certainly try playing this back in another player or web browser to see if the problem follows or is limited to just the Rokus.
If the problem follows it could be media or server related.

I think we may need to see more logged entries to see if there is a pattern.

Some Roku's are wireless and others are connected via Ethernet.  I've seen this happen on both but I am starting to wonder if it's network related.  I recently upgraded our home network to an Asus ZenWifi mesh and while it's been a huge improvement overall, I will do some digging to see if for some reason the connection is getting dropped or of there are random lag spikes.

I'm also going to let a couple movies play in the background today via Chrome to see if I get can errors.  I may also pull out a Firestick and see if I have the same issues on it.

Thanks for the help so far and I will report back once I learn more!

I forgot to mention that I've been wondering if this is in anyway caused by the Roku screen saver as described in the post below.  I doubt it but I will disable the screen saver on one of the Roku's just in case.

Let us know if that helps. Thanks

Update:  I'm starting to think that the Roku screensaver might been the culprit.  I spent a lot of time Sunday trying to troubleshoot the network, server, etc. and I even removed the power line network adapters I have.  I must have forgot to remove them after setting up new networking equipment.  One of the Roku's was still hooked up to it and they were causing lag spikes earlier this year.

Even after all that I still kept getting loading screens or the content no available errors every 15 to 30 minutes.  Finally, I turned off the screen saver on my office Roku and I have not had a single issue since.  I streamed multiple 4K and 1080p movies and TV shows yesterday while working just to make sure.

However, my wife tried to watch a couple shows on the living room Roku yesterday evening and kept getting the errors too.  Since turning off the screen saver on that Roku we haven't had anymore issues.

I'm still going to monitor it for a couple more days to make sure but if this works it could be an bug with the v10.0 Roku OS because I believe those two Roku's updated recently.

Let me know if ya'll have any thoughts, questions, or comments and I'll report back later this week.

Thanks!
