kbeck 64 Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 For movie names I still use movie.xml instead of editing directly in Emby metadata. It's simpler because I have 2 servers in 2 locations and I can just sync the Libraries and everything picks up. I've made a few name changes but Emby doesn't seem to be picking up on the change. I've checked and the names are not locked. I've scanned the library several times (once per day). And tried to do a Refresh Metadata but I'm not sure which should be reading the xml file??
Carlo 4561 Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 Hi, you should be using NFO files for editing meta-data or sharing content between two servers.
Happy2Play 9785 Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 Emby can only read XML files via the plugin. All edits have to be made to the xml directly or via 3rd party software. But you may need to elaborate more as I have no issue with real time monitoring or library scan picking up xml edits as I was adding RT ratings directly to xml files last night.
kbeck 64 Posted September 20, 2021 Author Posted September 20, 2021 I edit the xml via Notepad instead of the Emby Metadata Manager because of the 2 servers. 99% of the time it works fine. Used to show up almost immediately. Library is pretty large now. 2200 items. Changing to NFO would be a huge deal for me since 50-60% are custom titles. Life is too short to redo that. For some reason, I have hit about 10 files that will not read changes in the XML. I have deleted the Library and recreated. No change. In the last week, I have changed maybe 40 titles in XML and all the changes picked in on the next refresh. Can someone tell me exactly when the xml (or nfo) file is read/reread?
Luke 42086 Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 During the next library scan, or in the background if the realtime monitor is enabled.
