IsHome 5 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Hi, The music library content on the NAS is sorted, the music library content in EMBY is sorted, but the Playlist content is not sorted. I've attached a screenshot: on the right is the sorted contents of the folder on the NAS. in the middle the same sorted music folder but in EMBY. on the left the same but unsorted music folder in the Playlist. I would like to see the contents of the playlist also sorted so that playing the tracks of a CD takes place in the same order as I play them via a playlist. Is the option to sort the playlist also set somewhere? (Emby on Docker v4.6.4.0 and Emby on Docker v4.7.0.11 beta)
ebr 16187 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Hi. Playlists have an inherent order (the one you create) so there is no sort option on them. You can rearrange them however you wish in the web app though. Just drag and drop.
Luke 42083 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Right, it is sorted by the order they were added to the playlist.
IsHome 5 Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 Hi Luke, 2 hours ago, Luke said: Right, it is sorted by the order they were added to the playlist. I don't understand what you mean with 'it is sorted by the order they were added' Which mechanism then performs the sorting of the files? Because the result is that the files in the playlist are sorted randomly, while the original files in the music library are sorted by title. And the latter is exactly what I want in a playlist. What EBR indicates to sort the files by hand afterwards is still doable with, for example, a library with 16 tracks, but is not possible with a library such as the 100 Blues Hits with 100 tracks.
Carlo 4561 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 There is no sorting's. It's just as stated, if you add a file to the playlist it's at the top, followed by the next one you add and so on. If you add multiple at one time it's going to be near impossible to know the order. You could use a 3rd party program to create a m3u playlist files which Emby will import. You might find a program that will do this and allow you to sort before writing the m3u file. This m3u file just needs to be in your music library to get scanned in. The filename will be the playlist name.
IsHome 5 Posted September 15, 2021 Author Posted September 15, 2021 Hi Cayars, OK, that's obvious. Sorting is therefore not an option with a Playlist in Emby, unless I manually do it myself after generating a Playlist. That's too bad. If I want to have that sorted 'automatically' then I have to use an external application Can I place that external m3u playlist in the same folder as the xml playlist generated by emby ends up in? Because I don't want to have the m3u playlists in every music library because then when a m3u playlist is present, the complete contents of the music library will be shown on the screen in a different way. In addition, emby will also play the m3u playlist present in it while playing the complete music library (when using the option 'play all').
Carlo 4561 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 If you want to use the m3u approach I believe the playlist needs to be in the music library so it can be scanned and imported. I'm not sure I follow your comment about the content being shown a different way. It's going to show up in Emby like any other playlist, only difference it was built from the m3u. Once imported it's just a playlist and not or track or album.
IsHome 5 Posted September 15, 2021 Author Posted September 15, 2021 OK, Thanks for the support en info. I'll give it a try with an external app such as MP3TagScanner. 1
xlerate 8 Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Same question, but wondering why Playlist have a sort option on the Android Mobile App but not on Android TV?

Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
