Well Emby will improve cleaning ups sessions, but until they change transcoding methods you can run out drive space.
Bingie 99 Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 That sucks. I don't want the wear and tear on my ssd, so I'll keep the transcoding-temp directory on the hard disk. Performance seems fine, for us anyways.
Carlo 4560 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 You can always add a "throwaway" SSD to the system. By this I mean a cheap SSD that you discard in a couple of years when it gives up and just replace it. Couple of examples: 256 GB SSD drive for $35 https://www.amazon.com/ADATA-SU800-256GB-3D-NAND-ASU800SS-256GT-C/dp/B01K8A2A0E/ref=asc_df_B01K8A2A0E/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309776868400&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10414892800811987486&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003887&hvtargid=pla-381724765879&th=1 Same drive but 512 GB for $55 https://www.amazon.com/ADATA-SU800-256GB-3D-NAND-ASU800SS-256GT-C/dp/B01K8A29CS/ref=asc_df_B01K8A2A0E/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309776868400&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10414892800811987486&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003887&hvtargid=pla-381724765879&th=1 You just set it up for Emby Transcoding and maybe for Emby Cache. Since it's a cheap drive you don't use it to store crucial files on and only use it for things that can be rebuilt on the fly. This way there is no fear of failure wiping your computer out and it doesn't put extra wear and tear on your main SSD drive. The cheapest of cheap SSD drives are going to be a lot faster than a traditional SSD so Emby benefits from it. 1
Bingie 99 Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 That's a good idea. I don't like a bunch of temp files hitting my main media storage drive either. Extra wear and tear all the way around. I think I'll do that. Good thinking

I just added a 2nd external 10 TB drive for daily backup, it's been copying for hours, and CrystalDiskInfo lets me monitor drive temperatures in real time. Best money I never spent 1
EmYaj 25 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Didnt want to start a new thread for this so reviving older relevant one. If I have two Emby server containers with overlapping libraries can I point them both at the same metadata location and have them share it or will they interfere with each other?
