rooser11 8 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 So, I am back to Firestick 4K from Sony's built-in android tv app. While enabling framerate/resolution matching on Emby app works for 1080p/24p, it seems that Emby does not switch to 720p. Instead, it resorts to 1080p even for 720p contents. Since Firestick can output in 720p and SmartTubeNext on Firestick can switch to 720p, Emby might have a bug. Can you look into this? What information do you need to troubleshoot this? Thanks.
ebr 16182 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Hi. If the display is 1080, that is what we are going to output as that is what the panel is going to show regardless of what mode you put it in. What are you trying to achieve?
rooser11 8 Posted September 13, 2021 Author Posted September 13, 2021 The TV itself is 4K HDR. I just don't like using firestick's upscaler instead of my SONY tv's own upscaler which is why I try to use res/frame matching on ftv so that my TV does the processing. With the res/framerate matching on within the emby app on firestick, 4k and 1080p contents are displayed at its resolution correctly (i.e., 4k in 2160p and 1080p in 1080p). However, 720p contents are displayed at 1080p when I check the display mode on my TV. I initially thought it was an issue with the firestick itself but turns out firestick can display in 720p and like I said above, SmartTubeNext app also has auto res switching feature and it plays 720p contents in 720p as confirmed by the display mode on my TV.
ebr 16182 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 At this time, we purposely do not go any lower than 1080 as long as the display supports that. Can you actually see a difference?
rooser11 8 Posted September 13, 2021 Author Posted September 13, 2021 PROBABLY NOT any reason why you dont go any lower than 1080p? At least good to know that it is not a bug.

At least good to know that it is not a bug. I’ve been trying to figure out why my Shield wouldn’t go to 720p and stumbled across this thread. At least now I know *why* but I’d personally like to see this resolution matching apply to 720p content as well and I’m curious as to why it would be (seemingly) arbitrarily limited to lowering to only 1080p. EDIT: Reason for my preference is that I’d like to utilize the upscaler in my Sony TV with as native of a signal as possible. I do see a difference between 720p content in Emby on Shield TV @ 1080p vs the same content on the Android TV Emby app directly on the Sony TV (or if I just limit the Shield to 720p output). Jarkkoooo 2 Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 If you still are searching for a solution: You can manually change the resolution during playback.

Luke 42078 Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 @rooser11 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.

During playback press arrow down and klick on the gear icon there. In the upper area you see the setting for resolution and frame rate. But make sure first that you have the "auto" display setting in the main settings on the fire tv.

I believe you are talking about the transcoding resolution which isnt what this topic is talking about.
Jarkkoooo 2 Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) I am playing ts-files (recordings from sat receiver) with emby on the fire stick. It direct plays it without transcoding or converting to direct stream. I am able to chose whatever resolution or frame rate I want or need. I can play eg 720p50 in native resolution and frame rate without transcoding. If that is not what you want then I do not understand your 1st post. Edited September 17, 2022 by Jarkkoooo
