gerry.emm 10 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Hi everyone, So I just ordered a new computer to run EMBY, in the hopes of accelerating its performance...WAY better specs than my current machine... What is the easiest method of transferring my setup to the new machine??? And before you ask, yes, I have a lifetime subscription to EMBY Premiere... Just as an aside though, my media exists on 6 external USB hard drives...getting them to start up in the correct order on the new machine will be my biggest challenge!!! Thanks in advance if you can point me in the right direction!!! Gerry Long live EMBY!!!
Luke 42082 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Hi there, have you taken a look at our backup guide? https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159936-backup
Carlo 4561 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Curious, why would it matter the order the external USB drives start in? They should come up with the same name and drive letter every time. If for some reason this doesn't happen, you may want to check out Stablebit DrivePool. This would allow you to add a drive to the pool and use all 6 drives (plus any internal) as one pool. Drivepool looks at the drive on startup for a "special folder" and if it matches a current pool will auto mount it as part of the pool. So this should solve that problem plus make storage easier as well since you can now use 1 drive pool letter. 1
awdspyder 11 Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 (edited) I'll second the Stablebit DrivePool recommendation. Now, I admittedly use mine in an overly complex way - my Emby server runs in a VM on a 2-node Hyper-V cluster backed by a DIY fiber channel Linux SAN running MDADM for RAID and exporting block-level devices to Hyper-V via LIO. Each LVM group (2 x 4-disk RAID-10 with LVM striping) is presented as ~20TB VHDX to Emby where DrivePool then aggregates things into a single volume. Even in this environment, DrivePool works flawlessly. Combined with the 2U 24-bay SuperMicro enclosures that comprise the SAN, this gives me the ability to expand to 256 total spindles in 8-disk increments and still see a single volume in Emby.
