Want kids profile to see all G/PG rated *OR* whitelisted movies

What I'd like to do is to let my Kids' profile see all G/PG movies.  But there are a handful of PG-13 movies that I am ok having them watch (like the  Harry Potter movies).  So I want to tag those movies as "ok-for-kids" so they show up in their library.

It doesn't appear this is possible with the way Emby works today.  I can set a maximum rating restriction, and I can apply *additional* restrictions (like a not-for-kids blacklist tag), But it doesn't appear I can do what I want - unless I'm missing something.

Can anyone help?  Is there a way to set up something that automatically tags all existing and incoming G/PG movies with an "ok-for-kids" tag, for example?

With current releases this is not possible but is keep an eye on upcoming beta and next normal Server release as it will likely have this feature.

Most likely there will still be parental control tag blocking but we are trying to decide to keep the existing "Only allow" or switch it to doing essentially what you're asking for.  Another option is to keep the 2 existing choices and add this as a third option.

When said and done it will basically use the parental rating restrictions you have setup then allow you to add other media on top of this filter using tags.
This will make parental restrictions much more powerful and useful.

That would surely be useful, but in OP case, assigning Custom Rating on related movies should produce desired result, as that should take precedence over default rating?

Yes that would be another way to go if this will work for the OP.

Agreed, I use custom rating for both blocking and allowing overrides and it works just fine.

At the same time there is a topic like this where there is more then one child and what is appropriate for one but not the other, so custom rating would fail the desired result.

Sure, hence the upcoming features will be a nice addition, but the OP did not specify need for such - only single "ok-for-kids" to override access control, which can be achieved with Custom Rating. Once more granular control is introduced, he can surely make use of that as well.

Correct.  This is exactly the situation that field was created for.

Thanks all for your responses.  The idea of using Custom Rating is interesting, but the drawback with that idea is that I have to go out of my way to add a custom rating to all my media instead of using the rating scraped from the web.  It's just an extra layer of friction.

I will wait for the next releases of Emby (as Cayars suggested) to see if the improvements satisfy my needs.  If not I may have to go the Custom Rating route.

edit: I may have misunderstood how Custom Rating works.  I will go experiment!  That may be all I need for the time being.

Yeah, all your media will retain their rating, you would only apply Custom ratings to those selected few items you explicitly want to allow (or block, as it works either way), and that will be considered that item's "rating" until/if you decide to remove it, upon which original rating will apply again.

It's basically same as if you tagged an item, you're just doing it on a different metadata field.
