lstryhrn85 13 Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I am having really slow scans with tv shows. I am setting up a new server. I created a new folder on my hard drive and slowly started to add tv shows in that folder. My thought process was maybe if I add slowly the server wouldnt have to work so hard. I was so wrong. The first 10 shows I added, it took about 2 hours to scan. The second batch I went through manually and identified them . The metadata showed up pretty quick and the files scanned in no time. What is making the scan so slow. I have attached the log file. embyserver.txt
Carlo 4561 Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Hi, first off turn off Network->Enable automatic port mapping as that is flooding your log with errors. Have these shows already been previously used in Emby? Did you write NFO to the media library and also have Emby store the graphics in the media folders? If the answer is yes to those questions you can modify the TV Show library and deactivate the meta-data providers. This will force Emby to load the info from the NFO file and not go out to the meta-data provider sites to read in new info. This should make scanning fast. After everything is loaded you can turn the meta-data providers back on. 1

I am coming from Plex so a media folderinst a problem. Will this speed things up? Edited September 9, 2021 by lstryhrn85
Carlo 4561 Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 No if this the files have never been scanned by Emby before you want all providers active and for best results save NFO and graphics to media folders. If you ever need to reload these files in the future it can be much faster.

So I been with Plex the past 6 years and I am just now moving over to Emby. I even tried Jellyfin (which sucks) but the first time scan is amazing. But what I notice that tvdb isnt enable by default on Jellyfin. I use to scan alot with Plex and tvdb took forever. So just now I uninstall tvdb plugin and the tv shows scan is populating pretty quickly now. So this may be a TVdb issue. Edited September 9, 2021 by lstryhrn85
Luke 42081 Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 The next release of the server should have a little bit faster first time scan. Thanks.
