is there an argument i can pass to

/opt/emby-server/system/EmbyServer

or

/opt/emby-server/bin/emby-server

that will allow me to run a second instance of emby server?

I don't think you can run multiple instances of the same install, but you can download portable version(s) and run that (those) separately.

I know it is possible on Windows, but don't think anyone has done it on other platforms that I know of.

Me neither, guess we've got a tester here then. 😉 Do tell us how it went.

looking at the portable edition for windows, it only contains the `system` folder, im going to try making a whole copy of /opt/emby-server and see if that works after editing some paths

But the platform packages are coded to go to specific locations for programdata and system.

I would assume one would need to be able to adjust those variables.

Where Windows is a package deal for where ever you place the system folder.  So putting system folder in A:\Emby will self contain everything on a Windows portable.

i have, i changed the environment file, made and edited a second systemd service file and bin/emby-server, and a new dir in /var/lib for the embydata variable. and it works. thanks

edit for others: make sure you stop the first instance on first run because it will try to use default ports, or change the ports on the first instance and restart it before trying another instance, or it will fail
