Empty libraries

This is in the Live TV section as a user.  You click the 3 dot menu up top above the grid.
This is just a selection of channels/tags you already have access to.  This doesn't restrict channels.

To actually hide channels as if they don't exist you would use tags and parental restrictions.

So that wont do what I want to accomplish then.

Is there any way to auto tag a recording when it records?

If not, is there any way to select under parental controls to only allow items with these tags and "no tags"?

If not, then I cannot do what I want. Then I guess I am looking for a feature request.

Yes that can be done. But there might be a better way to do this if you explain what you're trying to accomplish.

Tags can be used twofold: to restrict access and to filter views. And are independent for each user. 

So, for your kids, you use Acces control - you would leave Tag rule in place and Allow them only items with tags you want. 

For yourself and your wife, you use View control - remove all tag rules for either of you (hence enabling you to view all content) and in LiveTV section filter by the tags you want, so you would only see the channels you are interested in, and recordings would be viewable by default, as you have no Access rule in place.

Would this allow my kids to record their TV Shows and watch them?  I feel like if you record a show that has a prepopulated tag of KIDS from my tv provider, when it records anything off of that channel, it would prepopulate it with the same tag.  I realize thats not how it works now and seems broken.

The way it works if I use "Only allow" for tags and set my kids to "KIDS" they can access only the channels I want but if they record anything and then go into recordings they cannot see what they recorded because there is no tag.

Does that make sense?

AFAIK no, tags from the provider are not imported ( @cayars?). However, if YOU tagged that show manually, Tag rule should apply for subsequent episodes as they internally honor TV Show tag - or more precise the rule on parent level applies to all children items.

Emby will create tags from groups if the tuner is M3U based.

No tag info is automatically created on a recording ever.  I'm not sure that would make sense.
Instead what you would normally do is using parental restrictions for kids based on the rating of the recording such as PG, PG-13, etc. This way the filter is always in place for all libraries.
