Trouble with Surround Sound on Amazon Fire TV

Hello,

  I was wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with Surround Sound on Amazon Fire TV.  It will only play in Stereo.

I have the latest version of Emby Server running on Windows.  I have an HDMI switch box going into a receiver for my surround sound.

I have an old Roku box also attached to this system and the Surround Sound works fine using the latest Emby app.

I have a 2015 Amazon Fire TV using the same setup and I do not get Surround Sound using the latest Emby app.  I tried the latest beta as well.

The Amazon Fire TV is configured to have Dolby Digital over HDMI and other programs using apps other than Emby work in Surround Sound on the Fire TV.

I used to have no Surround Sound problems with the Amazon Fire TV and Emby so this is either an update to the Emby app or to the Amazon Fire TV which caused the problem, although the Fire TV being so old hasn't had an update in a long time.

After looking through the possibilities, I have concluded that there is something up with the Emby Fire TV app and Surround Sound so has anyone else seen this or maybe know a solution?

Hi, I would review the options in the app. You may have enabled the audio downmix option.

I checked the app and the Audio was set to Auto.  When I changed it to Convert Unsupported Audio to Dolby Digital, it worked.

I ran some more tests.  On Auto, I was able to get AC-3 (Dolby Digital) to work in Surround, but AAC which I thought the Fire TV supported didn't work.

Of course DTS doesn't work with the Fire TV.

But in any case, I have Surround Sound with the Convert Unsupported Audio to Dolby Digital option, so I am happy.
