gowthamn 0 Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 I am planning to install Emby in Unraid. It has a GPU. I see that Emby can convert HDR to SDR, but I don't want to do that. Can Emby do the transcoding and pass the video with HDR metadata via the HDMI port? I will pass that through a LumegenPro before sending it to the display.

But for local in house use you shouldn't need to transcode at all with the right Emby Client that can direct play your content. 1

So if the movie is in 4k HDR and my device (projector / TV) can handle it, then I can get HDR? Which client device do you recommend? The shield? Edited August 31, 2021 by gowthamn
Carlo 4561 Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 No if your device and TV can't handle HDR then you can't get true HDR. The Shield can down convert HDR to SDR itself doing tone mapping and the picture looks quite good. The Shield TV Pro is hands down the best device for Emby in my personal opinion. 2

Will set up server with unraid and use Shield and Envy.
