Music libraries - Single and Album of same name getting mixed together

I have digitised my large collection of CDs and have compiled them into Emby.  They consist of a lot of CD singles, and quite a lot of albums; these have been split into separate folders and libraries for singles, albums, compilations and soundtracks.

Out of these CDs, there are multiple instances of a single being released by an artist with the same title as the album.  it seems that Emby is confusing the two libraries and combines the single and album tracklistings together, so for instance Madonna - Erotica; she released a single of the same name as the subsequent album.  when i look in the Singles library, it shows me the images for the album and then shows the single tracks  as 1,2,3 - but then shows me the albums listing - and the tracks all work.  The only way I have found round this at the moment is by adding (CDS) after the title of the single to split them up.  This happens for any instance this ocurrs, and clearing the metadata or removing the discs makes no differnce.

Anyone offer any assistance?

thanks!

Have you tried adding the MusicBrainz IDs, through the metadata manager? It sounds like both albums are using the same MB Album ID.

Hi, yes i've tried that on both album and Single - even though it identifies the musicbrainz ID in emby - it keeps the album and single mixed together - in both Singles and Albums librarires as well!

Music libraries are combined, when you view Artists and such, regardless of them being setup separately. From my understanding it is how Emby is designed. However, Emby shouldn't be combining albums together, solely based on the Album tag.

Example: Madonna. When you view Madonna, Emby should list 2 Erotica albums, because their MB Album IDs are different.

Could you provide some screenshots of what you are experiencing? You're gonna be asked for them anyways. ;)

@Luke or @Happy2Play any input?

If the tracks have the same album name, albumartist and musicbrainz album ids (or blank), then they will be grouped into the same album.

What you can do is one of the following:

  • Update the album title for all tracks you wish to separate
  • Update the musicbrainz album id value for all of the tracks

Ideally you would do this in the embedded metadata of the tracks and then run a library scan and Emby will adjust to it. This way it becomes permanent. You can also do it in the Emby metadata editor but you may lose the custom values later if you refresh metadata.

thank you so much for that @Luke - updated the metadata on the album and single in MB Picard - immediately sorted the problem!

Thanks @koopa8840 for your help as well - much appreciated!
