Emby is overwriting Locked Metadata

Hi @all.

Im new to Emby and Currently working my way trough my wish Setup. Movies/Series are good, but my problem is the Music Libarie.

Im working with Mp3Tag and Picard since years, so my Music files have all the needed Tags...

Only Exception that looks like a problem are my features. I like them in the Artist tag and not at the end of the title.

Filenames looking like: Artist,Artist 2 & Artist 3 - Title.filetype

if they are from an album then they are Sorted like this: Artist/Album/Title.filetype

This seems to be the problem. Emby is only getting the first and second artist correct and then adding (if more) new artist groups like Artist, Artist2, Artist3 & Artist4.

So i was working my way trough the Metadata Manager and Edited them and set the Lock Option on Songs that i edited.

First Emby is getting them then correct but at the end it messes the whole db again.

Dont know what i can do, because the option should lock the files/tags, but it dosnt happen.

Just to show it in Pictures what i mean, because my english isnt the best.

Emby is creating Multiple Entrys for Artists because of my Tags, then i Edit them.

In picture 2 it would be like: Mobb Deep;50 Cent;Mary J. Blige and Set the Option to lock the File and save it.

Then it looks correct and i get the Bad Entry splitted into the real ones like moving them to Mobb Deep, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige.

But after a little while it gets reverted to the Point like in the Pictures.

Do someone know what i am doing wrong?

Do i really need to Retag my complete Files because of that? 😕

Music is based on the ID tags. If the Artist tag shows "Mobb Depp; 50 Cent & Mary J Blige" then Emby sees only 2 Artists. Replace the & with a semi-colon ( ; ), within the ID tag and Emby will see 3 Artists.

Would need to see the tags for a specific example.  But with the changes to Music the UI is currently somewhat useless as everything is read directly from the track.  So a Artist tag of Artist1, Artist2 is exactly that.

Sounds like you need to delineate the Artist with semicolon or /.  So Artist1; Artist2 or Artist1/Artist2.

Just saw your up date so ideally you would use Artists tag for (Mobb Depp/50 Cent/Mary J. Blige) or change Artist tag to that.  Artists tag will supercede Artist tag.

Ok, as i didnt hoped i need to retag :D

now i need to find a way to batch the process and dont change unwanted stuff.

I need to rename " ," and "&" to ";" or "/", that shouldnt be a problem, but what is if an artist/group has an & in it.

Takes some time... but thanks for your help.

Why is there an option to lock file, when it dosnt lock it? 🤔

Yes there would be issue batch converting artist/groups that do exist like "Sonny & Cher" for example.  So this can be a problematic.

Use an Action, in MP3Tag, to replace those characters in the Artist tag.
