Where does Items/Counts get its totals?

I noticed that some of the totals from Items/Counts are different than what the web-ui says when browsing content. For instance, on a user that has access to every library, the Episodes tab of a TV library says "10525 Items" but Items/Counts says 11,138. Where could this difference come from?

One is the number of items in a specific view and the other is system wide.  There could be episodes in some other library (like recordings).

I have very simple libraries (movies, tv, music) and no recordings. All episodes are only in the one library. Does it add LiveTV episodes in the guide to the count? If so, that might explain it.

Edit: actually it’s most certainly because I have multiple versions of many episodes!
