Smooth playback using MPC; judders/tearing using MBT built in player

I want to be able to use only the MBT player as i like the overlay and resume functionality,  but I seem to only be able to get reliable and judder / tear free playback when using a flavor of MPC (right now using MPC-BE). 

 

When using MPC,  I get tray icons for all of the LAV items  -  splitter, audio, and video.  With the MBT player,  the LAV video filter tray icon does not show up.  Could it possibly not be using LAV video?  How can I force that,  or how can I check it?

Exact same problem here. MPC-HC works perfect with built in LAV decoders but I get very poor playback in MBT lots tearing, judder and graininess, also can't get it to output HD audio, the LAV splitter always selects the standard 5.1 audio track. If I open the same video with MPC-HC it's perfect again. It looks like all the settings I' am trying have no effect...
