deuce9498 6 Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 (edited) Greetings All, I recently decided to import my music, 2000ish album, 28,000ish songs. My music has long been structured as recommended in the basic 'Music Naming' Emby documentation - https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159113 \Music\Artist Name\Album Name\Songs* - The whole import process did take quite a few hours but worked fine. The challenge I'd like to correct now is that many albums have songs from a single album that have been split into two albums with different ExternalID's that were resolved. For example I have an album with good looking metadata that has 16 songs, when scanned: Songs 1 through 15 resolved ExternalID - https://musicbrainz.org/release/cf5e96a3-6473-4d15-9097-edc761a002e9 Song 16 resolved to - https://musicbrainz.org/release/779e9129-ed4f-4ec9-b11e-46c5a8509192 I said, yea no problem I see what happened, let me just 'Identify' the first 15 songs as actually being the album that really shipped with 16 songs. I go through the Identify search, find the right ID, accept, and the ID is now assigned to the thumbnail of the album but all the individual songs show the old ID still. I played around with the metadata manager and didn't see any difference. The only way I've found to reassign the right external ID's is editing each song individually pasting the ID in, and when hitting 'save' they immediately show up under the other album thumbnail. Am I missing a better way to resolve my misidentified ExternalID's other than changing the id individual song by song? Even if there's no GUI are there potentially API's or developer resources I could use to automate things a bit more? Thanks, -deuce9498 Edited August 18, 2021 by deuce9498 typo

Sort of as Emby is reading embedded tags so if these tags are not embedded then the online lookup can be problematic with multi-version of albums. Easiest is have mp3tag or Picard write the correct mbzids. Note folder structure is somewhat irrelevant now. But will be used via library "Music folder structure:" for image reading/saving. Otherwise they are pushed to \metadata\musicalbums. Edited August 18, 2021 by Happy2Play
deuce9498 6 Posted August 18, 2021 Author Posted August 18, 2021 I should have realized my concept of the file tags was antiquated on the basics. I've ripped my entire CD collection 3 times in 23 years and the last time was like 2007ish.... Makes perfect sense there's musicbrainz specific tags. I've done a couple web searches for mbzids and you've helped point me down the metadata tag rabbit hole of hell. Thanks Happy2Play. -deuce9498
deuce9498 6 Posted August 18, 2021 Author Posted August 18, 2021 Anyone else looking for this info this is the key/value format for how you direct tag stuff for MusicBrainz. TagName - MUSICBRAINZ_ALBUMID Value - MusicBrainz album GUID
