Cannot get emby to display existing ass subtitles

Hi, we extract these on the fly, but it looks like your environment just can't do that quickly enough.

If you go to server transcoding settings, see the last setting about Allowing subtitle extraction on the fly. Uncheck that, and then the subtitles will be burned in via server transcoding. Granted you will need a server machine capable of handling the transcoding on the fly, so please make sure to read the help text underneath the option.

If that's a problem, then you may want to check out our Emby Theater desktop app which can direct play it without any subtitle extraction or any transcoding:

https://emby.media/emby-theater.html

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

I would just like to add that this is a hi10p file which NOTHING can do in hardware, so the file will have to be transcoded.  If you are trying to play it back on a device that will play h264 files in hardware, the server will be "stupid" and think that the device can play it back properly and it will cause it to stutter, lag and just become a horrible mess.

Stop using hi10p, period,

Agreed - Level 5.1 is also completely unnecessary for a 1080p/23.976 file (4 or 4.1 should be used) - a lot of players will reject it on this fact alone ...

Alright sorry this took so long, at first I just tried to turn off subtitle extraction on the fly but that ended up making emby run a lot slower, so instead I downloaded emby theatre and it works beautifully thank you so much for your help

Thanks for the feedback. The other thing you can do if you want to use the web app without transcoding is use external subtitles instead.
