Jonsmedia 0 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 so i have acquired a nice server for my emby setup. i need to run win 10 for my backup to work its a intel xeon e5 2407 2.2 ghz processer 50GB ram. now when running and trying to stream the cpu runs flat out and 4k will not play on my LG tv with emby app. I am thinking as its a xeon it has no graphics built in . what would the best cheap graphics card i could use . dont need anything special as it only needs 1 stream at a time ?

Carlo 4561 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Right now there is almost no such thing as "cheap graphics card" as they are all overly expensive. But to point you in the right direction anything Nvidia 1050 or higher should work. I run a 1650 in my server and it does a great job for anything including 4K HDR media.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 It would be far cheaper to buy a Shield for playback that doesn't require transcoding than to buy the hardware for faster transcoding for your server. 1

Carlo 4561 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 I've got someone wanting to buy a TI-750 for $200. Prices are crazy.
Jonsmedia 0 Posted August 18, 2021 Author Posted August 18, 2021 will this be ok for 1 stream ? MSI GEFORCE GT 1030 AERO ITX 2G OC Graphics Card '2 GB GDDR5, 1x SL-DVI-D, 1x HDMI, Boost Clock 1518MHz, Base Clock 1265MHz, MINI-ITX Compact size design, Single Fan Cooling System, NVIDIA'
Carlo 4561 Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 That card should be good for a few streams of normal transcoding and a couple of tone mapped transcodes.
