dwasifar 1 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 I have Emby server proxied through Nginx. It works fine for local and remote connections. But I'm curious why I have to have Allow Remote Connections enabled in this configuration. The proxy is on the same local network as Emby; doesn't that make all connections to Emby local ones?
Luke 42079 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Remote in this case means truly remote, so that is why.
dwasifar 1 Posted August 17, 2021 Author Posted August 17, 2021 Well, yeah, I figured that, but how does it know? As far as Emby is concerned, shouldn't it only be seeing local requests? How does it know what's on the other side of the proxy?
Luke 42079 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Based on headers such as x-forwarded-for and others. It has to know the difference or a number of features based on connection type would not be able to work correctly.
dwasifar 1 Posted August 17, 2021 Author Posted August 17, 2021 Got it, thanks. In this situation, does the server need to be linked to an Emby account at all, or can it operate entirely independently just using manual logins?
