Why do Collections not work on "Music" ?

Hello, Im running emby server on a Synology NAS, Client is an Zidoo 3000 with the adroidtv app. First of all I really love emby in this combination after trying out a lot of Server/client things like Plex and AppleTV or Dlna stuff like JRiver-server with Oppo Client. This Emby Zidoo Combination is the first one with great picture and Sound Quality paired with an awesome configurable Layout.

Anyhow I have some Questions since I get some Things not working correctly.

I can add for expample Music Albums to a "Collection". But They dont appear anywhere in the server app nor on the Android-TV Client side in the Music Tab. Collections in Film/Video work fine.

I cant't figure out whats wrong here. Thx for advise.

Hi, typically in Music you would use Playlists not Collections for this type of thing.

Have you tried using playlists for your music?

not that playlists shouldnt be tried, they have a place.....

I think it would be a good thing if collections get a bit more love....collections have some uniquely useful characteristics.

Collections are better for organising in that they can store containers like albums........if you add an album to a playlist it will get flattened into tracks..

maybe in time a playlist could just be seen as a flat collection...if orders (by name, number, date) and maybe filters were added to containers within a collection....

Hi, yes I have tried Playlists and they work. Unfortunately playlists have no "Album Cover View" - just list View of tracks. Since I had the option to add albums to collections I just thought it would be nice to add some Albums like "All MFSL Records" to a Colletion just with the Album Cover View.

but collections with movie objects show on movie libraries...not so music collections..i think this is an aspect of what the op is getting at.

The issue for the Op is there is no collection tab up top in Music.

Ok, I tried something out. I can add Albums to Collections but they appear ONLY if I check in Settings "Collections on Mainpage" Than All Collections Movie and Music appear there.

Movie or Videos Libraries get their own Collections-Tab with the Library. And only with Collections from that Library. Unfortunately that Collections-Tab dont appear in Music Library.

But that would be awesome if Music Libraries get there Owwn Collections-Tab just with Music Collections.

And the issue of there are already too many tabs.  So would assume the header tab would need to be scrollable.

We can look at adding the Collections tab to music in future updates. For now at least, you can always get to them via the global collections section.

There are too many so combine this with letting me turn ones that are useless to me off   I could happily turn off 5 of the 8 that are there today.

True being able to disable/select specific tabs would please a lot of users.  But in the end you will have users that want or leave all of them enabled and devices/display modes just don't have the real-estate.

filter 'by tags' and/or 'by content type' (Mixed, Video, Audio , ++)  and/or 'by Library' (Mixed, LibraryMusic, LibraryMovies) and/or 'by text search string' might be a nice stop gap, to making the global collections ui more useable in the mean time...i feel a FR coming on

Was told it was planned on a system-wide level.
