Do collections of folders work the same as the media?

I just read a bunch of comments and figured out the new collection works as embedded in the media's nfo files.

But how does it work with the collection of folders?

I try to make a collection of some folders and I did see it in \metadata\collections, but how do you link these folders?

The nfo files doesn't contain the info of these folders.

Thanks

What do you mean by "collections of folders", could you elaborate a bit by giving an example?

For example, several movies in folder A and several ones in folder B, and I'm trying to create a collection including both A and B, the folders, not directly the movies within them.

So in the collection only folders are shown. It work but I just don't know how.

Are folder A and folder B added as separate paths in your Library setup or are they subfolders of a parent Movie folder?

Edit: To clarify, are they listed separately in your Library, Folders tab? If so, just select Add to Collection in three-dot menu on each of them there, same as with any media item.

Either way it works fine, but what I'm looking for is how does server link these folders.

The server links movies in same collection by embed <set> tags to their nfo files. But I don't see nfo files of folders, so I'm trying to find the "<set>" for these folders.

AFAIK it's db only as parent folders don't have nfos, only movie and tv show item subfolders do.

Thanks for your help.

The collections of movies are not easy to lose after the update, so I'm just simply questioning if it's the same for folders lol.

Hi, Let's see if this helps.  For auto-created collections (not manually created by you).

Collection info comes from one of the meta-data providers listed in your library.
So as a movie is identified in any of your libraries it gathers this info from the provider and if you have the import collection enabled for that library it will pull in this collection info and save it with the Movie in the database and write it out as a "set" command in the movie's NFO file (if enabled).

This collection information is tied to the movie itself and not to any folder structure on disc.  So it would not matter if you have all 3 Back to the Future movies in one folder or each in it's own folder.

Does that help?  If not what questions do you still have that aren't clear?
