Question About Type of Stream

Im watching a show between 2 devices, my fire tv & roku ultra & both devices are hard wired.. My file is an mkv. When I watch the show on my fire tv, it says play method is direct connect & stream type is HTTP.  My roku says its remux & stream type is hls. Roku says its transcoding because audio codec is not supported & fire tv appears to support both video & audio, but what confuses me is the stream type. Why is it not saying MKV?

The Android ATV app on some platforms such as Shield TV (with proper setup) can play files directly from the file system.
So on ATV the Stream type will be HTTP of File to distinguish between it being delivered via the Server or File system.
