lenhister 1 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) Hi there, I've been able to cast all my shows onto chromecast attached to a Vizo TV in the living room until yesterday where certain downloaded shows no longer play. I get a black screen when some shows are cast (I've attached the log). The funny thing is other devices with chromecast attached can play all downloaded shows. It's only this particular TV in the living room that has this problem. I don't believe the problem is with the chromecast hardware device as I've switched them with others in my home and still encounter the same problem with this particular TV in the living room (black screen, nothing playing). There are no issues playing the TV shows on my computer or phone. I was wondering if you can help. Thank you. ffmpeg-transcode-0a71f87d-920f-4e73-a217-7c733fad0e72_1.txt embyserver.txt Edited August 5, 2021 by lenhister
Abobader 3464 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Hello lenhister, ** This is an auto reply ** Please wait for someone from staff support or our members to reply to you. It's recommended to provide more info, as it explain in this thread: Thank you. Emby Team
Carlo 4561 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Is your problem basically just with this show? If so it's likely due to the encoding which is abnormal looking at the ffmpeg log. I would have thought it would play but could be some incompatibility with the TV.
lenhister 1 Posted August 5, 2021 Author Posted August 5, 2021 Thank you for your response. The problem is with this show and some others. However, prior to yesterday, I was able to play past episodes without problems and now I'm unable to play them and just get the black screen. I thought the issue was with my TV but using other apps (plex), I was able to play the episode without problems.
Carlo 4561 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 What version of the Emby Server are you running?
Carlo 4561 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Has anything been updated the last few days? Did your Emby client get an update or did your TV get a firmware update?
lenhister 1 Posted August 5, 2021 Author Posted August 5, 2021 The TV is fairly old and no longer receives any firmware updates. I don't believe the Emby client got any update.
Carlo 4561 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 If you have a spare PC you could try testing the beta server just released which has a new ffmpeg build in it. This might make a difference. If you install the beta you could just setup a small test library with a couple of problem files to see if they play or not correctly on this TV.
Fr33Ki77 0 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Also running version 4.6.4.0 and I seem to be having the same issue of videos not playing and stuck on a black screen when trying to Chromecast to TV. I'm running emby with docker on Synology and I haven't changed anything for like 2 weeks but it seems like everything I try to play at the moment via Chromecast is having this issue even though the videos were working 2 weeks ago.
WebLockDK 0 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 I also got this problem starting yesterday. Nothing updated or rebooted prior to the problem. Everything is of course rebooted since to try to solve the problem. I'm using Emby server on QNAP to Chromecast Ultra. If I play the same show on the phone instead of Chromecast then it works. My guess is that the Chromecast is updated - that's out of my control and knowledge.
DSlacky 5 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 (edited) Hi, Iv also got this problem. It started yesterday and it affects some tv shows and movies and even a lot of shoes and movies that used to work. Iv not touched anything. The server is running on windows Edited August 6, 2021 by DSlacky
Blob 7 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 (edited) +1 Cannot provide logs from My current location, but just wanted to check in on this. Tried casting from Android and IOS. Live Tv via a HDHomerun tuner seems to cast ok But not Any other Media Library, Just a Black TV screen. Windows Server with 4.6 3.0 Edited August 6, 2021 by Blob
Carlo 4561 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Do some shows play and others don't? If you use Chrome on a PC are you able to cast any of these problem files?
DSlacky 5 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 I’m not convinced yet but might be to do with the repackaging of media to be compatible to play. I can’t cast from the website as it’s not a secure connection for chrome cast as mine runs on http. I mainly just use the apps

DSlacky 5 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 (edited) When it try’s to play it does this but the screen stays blank and when the transcoding has finished nothing changes, ohh and the play counter goes to a few seconds and then jumps back to them lines Edited August 6, 2021 by DSlacky
Carlo 4561 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 What does the whole media section look like for this at the bottom of the detail screen?
DSlacky 5 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 For the video I’m trying to play? Like the formatting? This?
DSlacky 5 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 (edited) All the containers I have are mkv and never been an issue before Edited August 6, 2021 by DSlacky
Luke 42078 Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Please reboot your Chromecast device and then give it another try. Let us know if that helps. Thanks.
Fr33Ki77 0 Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) The only thing I could play before was anime, everything else wouldn't work. I found emby is now working for me now since updated my Synology NAS to DSM 7.0 but wondering if it could be an issue with ffmpeg as after installing DSM 7.0 I was prompted to fix the ffmpeg thrid party package. It looks to be working and direct streaming to my Chromecast now but I did notice a delay in audio when skipping around in the video. Not sure if that is normal as I didn't notice it before. Media that did not work yesterday does work now. No changes from my side besides the reboot of chromecast. Thanks for fixing.
