Can't stream certain shows onto chromecast

Hi there,

I've been able to cast all my shows onto chromecast attached to a Vizo TV in the living room until yesterday where certain downloaded shows no longer play. I get a black screen when some shows are cast (I've attached the log). The funny thing is other devices with chromecast attached can play all downloaded shows. It's only this particular TV in the living room that has this problem. I don't believe the problem is with the chromecast hardware device as I've switched them with others in my home and still encounter the same problem with this particular TV in the living room (black screen, nothing playing). There are no issues playing the TV shows on my computer or phone. I was wondering if you can help. Thank you.

Is your problem basically just with this show?

If so it's likely due to the encoding which is abnormal looking at the ffmpeg log.
I would have thought it would play but could be some incompatibility with the TV.

Thank you for your response. The problem is with this show and some others. However, prior to yesterday, I was able to play past episodes without problems and now I'm unable to play them and just get the black screen.

I thought the issue was with my TV but using other apps (plex), I was able to play the episode without problems.

What version of the Emby Server are you running?

I'm currently running Version 4.6.4.0

Has anything been updated the last few days?  Did your Emby client get an update or did your TV get a firmware update?

The TV is fairly old and no longer receives any firmware updates. I don't believe the Emby client got any update.

If you have a spare PC you could try testing the beta server just released which has a new ffmpeg build in it.
This might make a difference.

If you install the beta you could just setup a small test library with a couple of problem files to see if they play or not correctly on this TV.

Also running version 4.6.4.0 and I seem to be having the same issue of videos not playing and stuck on a black screen when trying to Chromecast to TV. I'm running emby with docker on Synology and I haven't changed anything for like 2 weeks but it seems like everything I try to play at the moment via Chromecast is having this issue even though the videos were working 2 weeks ago.

I also got this problem starting yesterday. Nothing updated or rebooted prior to the problem. Everything is of course rebooted since to try to solve the problem.

I'm using Emby server on QNAP to Chromecast Ultra.

If I play the same show on the phone instead of Chromecast then it works.

My guess is that the Chromecast is updated - that's out of my control and knowledge.

Do some shows play and others don't?

If you use Chrome on a PC are you able to cast any of these problem files?

I’m not convinced yet but might be to do with the repackaging of media to be compatible to play. I can’t cast from the website as it’s not a secure connection for chrome cast as mine runs on http. I mainly just use the apps

What kind of files are you trying to cast?

When it try’s to play it does this but the screen stays blank and when the transcoding has finished nothing changes, ohh and the play counter goes to a few seconds and then jumps back to them lines

Please reboot your Chromecast device and then give it another try. Let us know if that helps. Thanks.

The only thing I could play before was anime, everything else wouldn't work. I found emby is now working for me now since updated my Synology NAS to DSM 7.0 but wondering if it could be an issue with ffmpeg as after installing DSM 7.0 I was prompted to fix the ffmpeg thrid party package. It looks to be working and direct streaming to my Chromecast now but I did notice a delay in audio when skipping around in the video. Not sure if that is normal as I didn't notice it before.

Media that did not work yesterday does work now. No changes from my side besides the reboot of chromecast.

Thanks for fixing.
