Multiple episode in 1 file not being detected properly

Keep in mind that was a test/beta version and not a release version.

Exactly. When a topic is in the Testing Area, then you know the issue doesn't apply to the release builds that the vast majority of users are using.

Yeah, I know I should be fine with the release but you never know if a weird combination of things could mess with stuff so I just want to be 100% safe unless I have a good enough reason not to be.

And so far, I just haven't had a use for a feature that required write access so its not an issue for me. Emby will fill out the missing metadata with its own and save it in the user data folder which is perfect for me.

Outside of the metadata creation, the only other feature I know of that requires write access to the library is the convert feature and I absolutely don't want that to create converted video files in my library folders so that's not useful to me.

Some of the features that can write to the media folders is your graphics/posters, NFO file, themed video, themed songs, backdrops, bif/thumbnails.

Why that can be important/useful is if you ever have to reload a library it can pickup and use all this data without you having to redo it as it's right with the media.  It can make reloading a library much quicker as well when you turn off all the meta-data providers for the initial load.

But if you are happy with your system as it is now then you're all set as these are just options.

Most of the metadata stuff(posters, fanart and all that) is already there from SickGear and the only ones emby can't load are the multi-episode nfo which are very rare.

I didn't know about the themed video and songs, but I assume that doesn't work if you use kodi as the player anyway.

Right the problem is we're trusting your nfo file to contain the correct information.

I may not agree that blindly trusting the nfo is a good idea, since many people have collections that span over many years if not decades and may have gone through multiple media software with metadata they may want to keep for one reason or another, but I'm not a developer on the project so that's entirely up to you and I have no problem living with your decision either way.

What concerns me more is that from what I'm understanding about the behavior of emby from your replies in this thread, the content of the metadata inside the nfo should never be ignored but in a particular case that I demonstrated in an earlier post where if I rename an episode and a nfo with the wrong format and a library scan occurs after, emby will ignore the nfo content if the modified date didn't change and it will gather the metadata itself, which sounds like a bug.

What gives you that impression? Emby will never ignore the nfo file if it is named properly.

When I do what I said above, my multi episodes get the correct metadata in emby even with the bad nfo named properly.

OK we'll try to chase it down and reproduce. Thanks.
