As777 27 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 My library mostly consists of shows in the structure required by Emby (show name --> season -> episodes). However, in same cases the episodes are contained in a single folder with the name and season contained in the folder name). Emby is unable to parse these folders automatically and fetch the show name. In these cases, it's not possible for me to reorganise the structure of the folders and I have to use the Identify button to find the show. Plex handles this but Emby doesn't. I would like it if the show parser could also identify the show name (and maybe even the season number) from a single directory as well as hierarchical folder structure.
GrimReaper 4742 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I'm not sure I got that right, does your folder structure look like: \TV \Show A \Show B Season 2 \Show C \Show D \Show E Season 3 ?
As777 27 Posted August 4, 2021 Author Posted August 4, 2021 Yes in a roundabout way except the single folder shows are located at another location.
GrimReaper 4742 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I understand reorganising folder structure ain't feasible, but can you rename? If so, just dump 'Season x' from folder names and append episodes beneath with Sxx, that should work even without Season folders nested. 1
rbjtech 5284 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Have a look here - Emby is pretty flexible when trying to identify various file/folder layouts - but I suspect, as @GrimReaper76 has said it's down to the file naming, which you can probably just modify slightly and keep both Emby and Plex happy.. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110-tv-naming If you can give an example of a show that isn't picked up - we can likely help you to rename it without modifying the file structure. 1

HI there, can you please provide specific examples? Thanks.
As777 27 Posted August 6, 2021 Author Posted August 6, 2021 I have already structured my media as described in the link. I cannot rename or reorganize some of the folders otherwise I just would have done that from the start. I dont need to go into detail why but suffice to say I can only add this content in its original form to the database not edit the folder name. Here is an example of a folder that does not parse and get identified as a show foldername -> This.Time.with.Alan.Partridge.S02.1080p.BDrip ------------------>This.Time.with.Alan.Partridge.S02E01.Episode.1.1080p.BDrip.mkv ------------------>This.Time.with.Alan.Partridge.S02E02.Episode.2.1080p.BDrip.mkv I can manually just identify the show by name only (no season or year required) and the parser identifies the correct season and episodes from the filenames in the directory. I would be good if Emby could identify just the show name from the folder. Usually, in my case, everything after the showname can be thrown away by the parser from the folder. My guess is the parser is returning "This.Time.with.Alan.Partridge.S02" and not finding anything. Plex seems to happy find this show as well as the rest of my library content.
Luke 42080 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Hi, yes we plan to be able to accommodate mish-mash folder structures in future updates. thanks for the feedback. 1
