Samkook 18 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I was wondering if there were any chance support for midi (.mid) files could be added to the supported music formats. Old school games lovers like me do like to listen to old game music so it would be great if it were supported, kinda surprised nobody seems to have asked for this. I know it's probably not the easiest thing to support since it's a hardware thing but since emby does support transcoding, it should be possible to decode it on the server and send the transcoded thing to the player.
rbjtech 5284 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 I believe there are many utilities that can convert the midi files to something more portable such as MP3's - that is likely your best solution to this in the short term.
Samkook 18 Posted August 4, 2021 Author Posted August 4, 2021 Yeah, I can find ways around it but it would be nice not to be forced to use a ton of unnecessary disk space for converted files. Until now, I used to copy or access the files directly on the device I want to listen to my music with a specific software for that device but it would be nice to be able to use emby to listen to my library. 1
Luke 42079 Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Yea looking at it I'm surprised we don't already have it in there as a supported extension. It should be easy enough to throw it in. 3
rbjtech 5284 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 @Samkook - it's already been added to the latest beta release - so if you are eager, you can install that (with it's associated risks) - or wait for it to be released in maybe 2-3 weeks time as part of a main release. 1
Samkook 18 Posted August 5, 2021 Author Posted August 5, 2021 Very good news, thanks. Didn't expect it would be so fast. 2-3 weeks isn't very long so I'll wait to be on the safe side.
