I tried to install Jellyfin alongside my Emby Premiere .. help please!

Hi guys,

I didn't realise Jellyfin was so close to emby in terms of, well everything, and was planning to install it as a lite version so it was easier for my mother-in-law to use on our main tv.

My plan was to change the port number as it installed jellyfin, but sadly it autoed (I must have selected the wrong option when installing) and when it loaded it loaded up Emby.
I tried to uninstall jellyfin and reinstall it when I realised I had autoed it but I still had the same error.

When I realised it wasn't going to be an easy option to complete I decided to abandon the idea, uninstall jellyfin, but now when I try to launch emby I'm getting all sorts of weird things happening.

I get the Emby logo, it calls itself Jellyfin and occasionally I see a members list of my emby server, but usually it is just a black screen.
I also get a lock of flickering that suggests it is looking for things that are no longer there.

My guess is I need to reinstall Emby server but I was hoping to find a way where I didn't have to re-impoort everything. I did a server back up not THAT long ago, and have the library.db from then but I have messed with it quite a lot since then so if there was a better way I thought I would ask, like I should have done initially.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Guin

Well, no surprise there considering it's a fork of Emby from some time ago.

What you should have done is simply shut down Emby instance before starting Jellyfin and then change its port number.

Considering they are both self-contained instances they should not interfere with one another, might be your browser cache messing things up there - did you try clearing the cache? Rebooting the PC? Accessing Emby server instance from another browser?

I haven't done anything yet, having decided I ought to ask before breaking it further. I shall try these now. Cheers

This did the trick. Thanks!

I kind of did this but somehow it confused itself. I now presume this information was still in cache too.

Thanks again bud, panic over, and a reminder I ought to back up my library again!

Hi.  Can we talk about what you were really trying to accomplish?  What is making it hard for her on the TV?

Indeed. How exactly was using other software that was similar going to accomplish your goal? Where exactly was there an issue? Can you give us clues where the other software was successful where this software was not?

Why is it easier to use a competitors software than our own? We are very interested in how you came about that decision and what we can do to make it easier for you not to have to come to this decision. How can we help you? How can we help your mother?

Without knowing we cannot offer assistance only apologies. Can you take the time to offer us some insight? Thanks. :)
