nebyneb2357 1 Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 (edited) My laptop which I use for the server (windows 10) only works with remote connections if it is using wifi. Everything else works perfectly other than that. Whenever I try to connect, it just says that it can't connect. Thanks for any help in advance! Edited August 2, 2021 by nebyneb2357

Since they would have different IP addresses do you have port forwarding for both? May have to breakdown your setup and issue a little more.
nebyneb2357 1 Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 (edited) I barely remember opening up ports 8096 and 8920 within windows and they never actually opened. I checked with a port checker and it said that one of them was still closed. I'm pretty sure it's just using upnp because they never actually opened. I think I may just have to set a static IP for the Ethernet, right? Edit: I want to clarify that if it works on Ethernet, I don't really care about the wifi at all. Sounds like you need to bind Emby to your ethernet IP via Dashboard-Network, Local IP address: Quote Local IP address: Optional. Override the local IP address that Emby Server will present to Emby apps. If left blank, the server will automatically detect the local IP address.
Carlo 4561 Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 If you turn off WIFI on the notebook with Emby shutdown and verify that Ethernet is working you can start Emby Server and it should tell you the IP it's using right on the dashboard. Then if you open your router config and go to the port forwarding section and take a screen shot we can help you with the proper configuration that won't rely on UPnP.
nebyneb2357 1 Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 @Happy2Play So I just enter my Ethernet ip into emby's network setting section?

Yes that would tell Emby to always use that IP. So you would want to ensure that IP is statically assigned to that nic or reserved on your router to that mac.
nebyneb2357 1 Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 Ok thanks for getting back to me. I do remember setting a static IP for the wifi within windows. I'll try to do the same with the Ethernet.

I also removed the static IP of the wifi and the remote connection still somehow works on wifi. I also reassigned the same local ip that was on the wifi to the Ethernet.

It is hard to say, best guess a UPNP issue. Have you restarted your router after all of the changes?

After much troubleshooting, not being able to apply static IP to Ethernet, and only wifi working, I tried a network settings reset in windows. And BOOM IT ALL STARTED WORKING! Anyways, I just wanted to let you know it finally works. One last question, is it okay to leave my laptop on all the time for my server? It is about 5-7 years old and came with windows 8.1 installed and I upgraded it to windows 10.
Luke 42083 Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 thanks for the feedback. Quote One last question, is it okay to leave my laptop on all the time for my server? Hi, from Emby's point of view, yes it certainly is. 1
