Guest Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 I have a couple of relatives that use my server and some of them have shows that only they watch, for example Love Island and Big Brother. Once they are done watching the shows, they typically sit there for about a month before I confirm they are ready to have it go bye-bye. It would be great for me, and hopefully others, if users without permission to delete something, could somehow request that I delete media. I could always give them permission to delete things, but that leads to potential accidents and disappearing content. Maybe an alerts of some kind could show up on the dash, or even have a settings section that shows when someone makes the request.
chef 3810 Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 (edited) The delete button would have to appear on the client, but the server would have to wait for admin deletion. From a plugin standpoint, you could monitor for users having items marked as watched, and then a message could appear in the dashboard activity log stating the item could be removed. But, what if one person at your families place watched it and not another. Probably not really a good work around. Edited August 2, 2021 by chef
Guest Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 From my perspective, it would still work out fine. I know who is watching what on my server, so I would know who needs to say its okay to delete this item before I actually delete it. I do however see your point. Honestly though, better statistics for who has viewed what than the current activity log would even be a good solution. With a certain other media server, one could very clearly see who has watched an episode of a show. I do dislike that other server these days, but they did do a few things proper. TLDR: Maybe my revised feature request is better watch statistics than what is currently available via plugin or official the emby activity log.

Ain't Reports plugin giving you exactly that, with more breakdowns that you will ever likely need? Edit: My bad, I was referring on Playback Reporting plugin. Edited August 2, 2021 by GrimReaper76

The Playback Reporting plugin yes, but it only tracks from the time of installation as it maintains its own database.

Yeah, I reckon that would work well enough for the OP based on: 2 hours ago, lukeoslavia said: TLDR: Maybe my revised feature request is better watch statistics than what is currently available via plugin or official the emby activity log. But I was confused about what ELSE he would like to have, as I would assume all the statistics + db query in the plugin cover practically every conceivable scenario?
Guest Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Honestly I cannot think of a more dated way of presenting that information in regards to the report plugin. That is personal preference but it also adds another db, and is third party. I still think a system where users would have a request delete button, and an admin dash that presents that request in some way would be the best. Or even automated deletion when a set of users have watched specified series would be good, but adding a button and an admin panel seems simpler to me.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Just providing something that is already available. Otherwise you will wait for something to be developed to cover your needs.

I am also in general not much a fan of 3rd party plugins as a solution, which again is personal preference. EDIT: I just realized the plugin that you mentioned is not the plugin I had thought it was, I thought you were talking about the Reports plugin. I can give the playback reporting plugin a try and it may work well enough for me. But I do still think it would be great for users to be able to let me know when they have watched something so I know I can erase it. Edited August 2, 2021 by lukeoslavia I'm a bit more than a bit silly!

We will monitor this request for other support. One question I have is will your user's actually use it? Right now, they could shoot you a text or email and say "We're done with xxx" but they aren't doing that. Will the request they deletion in the app or will you have to continue to ask them?

So currently they do make me aware, but this is typically in person when we all see each other, and remember to think about it. If I show them a little button they can click with their roku's I think I could have them using it. I am however trying out the plugin mentioned earlier because I am big dumb and thought they were mentioning a very different plugin, but if others see benefit in having a request button, I still think it would be very helpful for us! My main goal is clearing out these very large 1080i recordings to save some space.
