LeidenSpain 33 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 (edited) Hello again, I am finding that the movies are shown ordered by name, but "THE" is not taken into account when ordering them. It doesn't always happen to me, for example the "THE" in Spanish are sorted out well for me. I have not been able to find a pattern I am using Linux version 4.6.4.0. Happy2Play 9783 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 The system.xml has SortRemoveWords. <SortRemoveWords> <string>the</string> <string>a</string> <string>an</string> <string>das</string> <string>der</string> <string>el</string> <string>la</string> </SortRemoveWords> You can shutdown Emby and make adjustments if you like, then start Emby and Refresh your Libraries reprocess the sort order. 2

Thank you very much, this was just what I was looking for

While that may be grammatically and/or linguistically correct, I'm sure you're well aware that not all users are native English speakers and that some might have an issue with that, especially those whose languages have no articles of any kind at all (no The, no Das, no Le, no El... you get the point) - like my own, for example: my brain is wired to look at the first letter in either single or multi-word term, as "The Something" is, not by choice but instinctively, it's not something you consciously think of. And those "the"s REALLY stand out when placed inbetween some other letters, as opposed to when sorted under T where they don't stand out at all, quite the opposite, it just "feels" natural (no matter how technically "incorrect" it is). Having an option to select articles to be ignored would surely be nice, but editing system.xml works well enough for intended purpose and it's practically a one-time thing, so I would consider an option like that to be of a pretty low priority. There are two ways of looking at it, none is better than the other, I was simply asking if there is an option to choose which one.

IF IT IS NOT COMPLICATED, it could be an interesting option to include in server options (or client) .

You can always open a Feature Request in the appropriate forum section (or lend your support if one already exists) and see whether it'll get any kind of traction.

True, I'm going to do it (I haven't seen anything about it before)
Carlo 4561 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Hi, so the FR is just a UI for what is already editable in the system.xml file correct?
pwhodges 2012 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 As the XML file is part of the installation media, won't it get overwritten with each update? Or is the on-line update clever enough to avoid that? Paul
Carlo 4561 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 No, the system.xml doesn't get overwritten with updates.
