How can I make sure Emby does not overwrite metadata I've created?

I have some metadata I've created for a show (.nfo files, posters etc). How can I make sure Emby does not touch and overwrite this metadata when I add the item to my library?

Hi, by default there is nothing you need to do.

Thanks Luke. It seems to have worked for the most part, however, the order Emby plays the files in is wrong. It seems to pull this from another source rather than the local episode title names. For example, it wants to start the series with an episode from season 03 rather than S01E01.

I have named each episode using this structure: Monogatari - 1x01 - Hitagi Crab - Part 1. For some reason Emby wants to start with Monogatari - 3x02 - Karen Bee - Part 2. Can I force it to use the local file names/order instead of other sources?

How/where are you trying to start playback?

From the show's main page. Marking all episodes as seen/unseen does not alter it. Furthermore, going into each season there are episodes which are out of order.

What links are shown on the Series home screen for the meta-providers?

I'm not sure what you're asking for. Could you be more specific? TVDB is the #1 for the library so presumably that is what it has used as a provider.

Click on that TVDB link in a browser and then give us the link.

I want to look at the episode show order shown on TVDB.

I don't see a directlink to a metaprovider on the series page in Emby, however the show can be found on tvdb here

It is worth pointing out that I do not follow the order found on tvdb when naming the files. I have a preferable order which I created using the same naming scheme as you can see above and was hoping Emby would order them by this rather than matching with an online source.

This pic is from The Simpsons on my system at the bottom of the series screen

Do you have anything like that for this series?

Nothing like that exists in the web browser version for me (on this show).

Have you tried the Identify Feature for this series?

I know you have created local NFO files so if you try the above make a copy of all NFO for this series first.

Does you NFO files specify season/episode numbering?

I have not used the Identify feature yet. My NFO files do not specify season/episode numbering. Current example for S01E01:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<episodedetails>
  <plot>On the day after the Golden Week holiday, third year high school student Koyomi Araragi finds himself saving a classmate, Hitagi Senjyogahara, by catching her when she slips on the stairs and comes tumbling down from above.</plot>
  <title>Hitagi Crab, Part One</title>
  <director>Tatsuya Oishi</director>
  <director>Yukihoro Miyamoto</director>

Before I manually edit 100 nfo files to include season/episode tag, would Emby recognize these and follow them? Do you think that would solve this?

Yes I think this would fix your issue.

I would try to copy the NFO files then give Emby a try with the Identify feature.  If it doesn't work well or you don't like what it does you can undo the changes and re-use your NFOs.

Identifying the series reshuffled the episode order. Unfortunately not to one that makes sense. Manually editing the .nfo file to include season/ep tags worked for the first two. Guess I'll have to do so for the remaining 90 episodes too. Thanks for the help anyways.

Anime is tough!

After having added season and episode tags to each .nfo file and removed & re-added the series from the media folder (scan was not sufficient on its own to update) and then re-scanning the library, all episodes are now ordered correctly.

Awesome, glad you got that working!

Monogatari is the toughest of all (and maybe Haruhi Suzumiya).  I don't use nfo files, and it's the only anime I've had to arrange manually and lock the metadata.  The metadata providers just don't get it in this case...
