You just said

Where is "download to"?  Is it not in the web UI?

No, "Download to "available in the Android mobile app as well, under the 3-dot menu, along with other options.

Download itself is another option.

Thanks @CBers, I forgot about that.

Yeah, those are what I'm using. "Download" queues it to a different phone, "Download to..." also defaults to that other phone, and all of them get stuck on "ready to transfer".

Probably because that other phone doesn't have the Emby app installed, or online.

If you download, it should do it to the device you initiated it from.

Are you setting the download to ORIGINAL?

Huh?

What is the other phone? Is it yours?

No. But why would not having Emby installed on it mean downloads go there instead of where they're supposed to go?

How does Emby even know to attempt to download it to the other phone?

It must have been used for Emby at some point for it to be considered an acceptable device for downloading to.

Have you deleted all of your devices in Emby?

Obviously, but if I just click "download" on my phone, it should download to my phone not some other random phone.

And, again, no matter which device I download to it never gets further than "ready to transfer".

Anyone?

There's still not been a resolution to this.

Turn off "Allow remote control of other users" in your options.

Use the "download to" function and select your own device.

Does it now work?

If not upload the server log and let us know the file you tried to download to.

I can use the "Download to" and select my own device whether I can control other users remotely or not, but it just sticks at "Ready to Transfer".

Turning off remote control means the "Download" option now downloads to my device instead of a random other device, but that's the only change.

So that solves one of the problems.  Now to figure out why it's stuck at Ready to Transfer.

Have you removed all other outstanding downloads from the system so only this transfer job is active?

I'd say it's more a workaround than a solution.

Yes.

It's not a workaround as it's functionality built in.  As the administrator you can allow this to happen or not.

For example I can sync a TV show for my dad to his device without him having to do it and without me ever having logged in on that device.  Otherwise you normally only want to allow a person to control devices they have logged in on or shared.

Yes, but I could always choose which device to download to with "download to...". The problem is it not defaulting to my device if I just use "Download".

And it still doesn't download anything anyway.

OK can you setup a download to your device, then show us the download menu screen from the server dashboard?

In original quality? What is the file size?

What do you see on the server dashboard under the download menu?

A fairly large size to transfer in the background. What phone do you have? How much free space do you have left?

Does it matter? It's not like it's trying to transfer and failing, it's just not starting in the first place.
