Zuglord 4 Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 (edited) Hello! I have a soundtrack of approximately 170 tracks that I pulled off Youtube and prior to the Metadata patch, played in the order of the playlist before i downloaded. Now, after extensive use of MisicBrainz Picard (unsuccessfully) and finally mp3tag (limited success) - The tracks have been numbered manually through the meta-data, and artist has been changed the two composers with a semicolon inbetween, and all numbers have been removed from the file names themselves. when playing music while live connected to the server, the tracks play in the proper order. When downloaded and disconnected from the server, the tracks play in what appears to me to be a completely random order. Why would this be - what metadata setting needs to be adjusted here? I am not sure how to post logs, so any directions would be appreciated. Thank you for your help. Edited July 19, 2021 by Zuglord
Carlo 4561 Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Hi, by any chance when downloaded are they playing alphabetically or by some other sort order?
Zuglord 4 Posted July 19, 2021 Author Posted July 19, 2021 (edited) Does not look alphabetical, but it does seem to be in the musicbrainz picard order, even though it was not used. Even weirder, I play track 1, then play track 2 and it keeps track 1 and adds track 2, but then skips a bunch and does the new order for the rest of the tracks. I can do this endlessly, just manually playing each track - they then stay on the que in order, only after manually selecting and playing them. This lasts until I play any other media. Luke 42080 Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 @Zuglord can you show us a specific example? Thanks.
Zuglord 4 Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 So I have been trying to do a little research and testing. I apologize for my earlier response, as the play order was not clear to me. Now that I have tagged the "name" of my files by number to start with song number, and at this time, have progressed to trying to make it a compilations album of multiple disks, I have the name currently formatted as "001 - Song title" through "077 - Song title", divided into 3 discs in the Title metadata fields, If i just play track one, when the next track plays, disc 2, track 25 plays, from there, the rest of the album plays in proper sequence. If i play track five, when it completes or i play next track, it plays disc 2, track 29, and again, from there will play the rest of the album in proper sequence. If i do not go back tracks, it will not play the previous tracks, but it will allow you to back track the previous unplayed tracks through track 1, otherwise, all tracks before the one selected will not play. I can only get track 1 through 77 on disk 1 and track 1 on disk 2 to play normally when i tap them - however, from any of these tracks, I can hit Previous Track, and it will go backwards in the proper order, from whatever track selected through track 1. FROM THIS POINT, I am able to allow the tracks to play, and they will now play in the order i "rewound" them. Tracks including and beyond Disk 2 Track 2 through the rest of the album will only play when i Press and Hold - and select "Play". selecting Play All From Here does not play any media at all. Selecting Play plays just the selected song, with no option to previous or next track. Would my server logs have any useful info? If I can get them to you easily and they would help, i will gladly provide them to you.
Carlo 4561 Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 Can you show us how this album is tagged using mp3tag?
Zuglord 4 Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 (edited) Here is an export from mp3tag - is this good? problem.html Edited July 26, 2021 by Zuglord
Carlo 4561 Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 OK good track info on the files. After changing the tagging did you remove this album from Emby, scan library then add back to rescan again to make sure it's all new info? If not can you try that?
Zuglord 4 Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 What I have been doing is making a copy of the folder - updating and changing the copy, going to my phone, removing the download - going to server settings, removing old directory, adding new directory, scan library files - and then downloading again. @cayars
Luke 42080 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 @Zuglord are you still having an issue with this?
Zuglord 4 Posted August 5, 2021 Author Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) Hi @Luke This remains unresolved for me. Again when connected to the server and streaming this is not an issue, only in downloads on Android EMBY Edited August 5, 2021 by Zuglord Clarity

Zuglord 4 Posted August 16, 2021 Author Posted August 16, 2021 (edited) Difficult to say, I do not have any other albums with so many tracks. I will make an effort to try and repeat this with another artist/album. Edited August 16, 2021 by Zuglord Spelling 1

Zuglord 4 Posted August 17, 2021 Author Posted August 17, 2021 (edited) Hi Luke. Issue remains unresolved, but the sequence that the tracks are auto played in seems to be more responsive to tagging, if unpredictably so. Slight workaround - as Disc Number as a category seems not to matter, i just named the Album "NAME Disc 1"; "NAME Disc 2"; and "NAME Disc 3" the issue now is that tracks that weren't skipped before are now being skipped, but the number of skipped tracks has dropped from about 70 of them to perhaps 20 - and they are not the same tracks skipped earlier. I will experiment with a smaller number of tracks per disc and see if this totally resolves. My next step will be to look into playlists for downloads then I suppose, hopefully this is a thing - I haven't had the chance to look into that yet. Edited August 17, 2021 by Zuglord
Zuglord 4 Posted August 20, 2021 Author Posted August 20, 2021 (edited) So my final workaround was to limit tracks to 50 per Album, and then rename the Album from a single name to "Album Disc 1" "Album Disc 2" etc. (i noted actually using a tag field for Disc Number appeared to have either un-noticed or un-intended results) I need to go through song by song and make sure none are being skipped anymore, but it seems to have significantly improved the skipped tracks, if not eliminated them entirely. Will make a follow up post when confirmed. Edited August 20, 2021 by Zuglord
Luke 42080 Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Are you sure your tracks are tagged with both disc numbers and track numbers?
Zuglord 4 Posted September 2, 2021 Author Posted September 2, 2021 Hi Luke! based off the updated success and your follow up, I went and checked one of my already tagged copy files - and yes I was using different tagged disks and different album names on top of that. That being said, I went back to when I was using 3 albums and it no longer is skipping any tracks! I am very excited by this! I am tempted to try and restore this back to a single album with almost 170 tracks and see if the issue is still resolved, but it takes me an hour or so to play around with all the metadata so perhaps later I will get to checking. In the meanwhile, thank you guys for keeping up on this matter and for continuing to make improvements!!
Luke 42080 Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 OK thanks for the info. What you want to look at are the disc numbers embedded into the tracks, not the names of the files.
Zuglord 4 Posted September 2, 2021 Author Posted September 2, 2021 interestingly enough, this problem remains if I try to shorten it to a single album with over 100 tracks, or two albums with the first having 99 songs. I have reverted back to a three album set as it seems to work still. Crashes from time to time, but thats another matter.
Luke 42080 Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Hi @Zuglord are you still seeing this with Emby Server 4.7 and the latest updates to Emby for Android?
