Emby Server 4.6.4.0 No Longer Creating Collections

Recommended Posts

Previously I was using the plug in "Auto Box Sets" to create collections, recently I noticed that some movies that should be in a collection are being listed individually and not in a collection like previously it was doing.

After a little bit of digging I found that the collection side of things is now being managed via the library settings so I reviewed all the settings and could not find anything that points to it not working.

I performed a reboot of the server and kicked off another scan library & even a metadata refresh however the collections are still not being built.

Attached is a screen shot of what it shows in the settings for the library part of the collections field.

Has anyone else come across this problem or even know how to resolve?

Hi, As a quick test using a few movies you know should be in a collection do a manual meta-data refresh on them.

Did it add them to the collection?  If so do a library wide meta-data refresh.

@cayars Found that method didn't work, but what did work was I created the collection based on the details I found on the www.themoviedb.org site for the collection.

Made sure that only the movies listed were in there and then did a meta-data refresh, picked up all the right info and updated the collection details.

Just bizarre that this issue has just started to happen.

Can you please go over a specific example? Thanks.

@Luke I had recently added the Boondock Saints both 1 & 2 to the server using the same file name convention I've used in the past.

After a scan of the files the movies were both listed indivdually. I left them like this for a day or so knowing that sometimes the collections take a little bit longer.

After 2 days of not creating a collection I performed a meta-data refresh still with no luck.

I then went via the link https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/8374-the-boondock-saints to the boondock saints page and then the collection details https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/87186-the-boondock-saints-collection

I then created a new collection, added both the 1st and 2nd movie to the collection and called it the boondock saints collection.

Performed a meta-data refresh on the collection and this time told it to find missing data and it populated the all the details and updated the images also.

What movie metadata providers are enabled on the library, and in what order?

Posted

@Luke I have the following:

Metadata Readers: NFO

Movie Metadata Downloaders:

1. TheMovieDB

2. The Open Movie Database

In that order. Never use to have a problem but then I've not added any collection type of titles for some time now.

@Luke & @cayars

In the past 24hrs since posting last I've added a couple of collections that only updated by adding 1 or 2 movies to multiple movie collections. These have updated almost instantly over night however it seems only the newer non-created previously collection are still not coming through.

I have a new collection for the an old movie with x3 movies in it that I will be adding tonight.

I'll monitor it and see how long it takes to create the collection and advise accordingly.

Hi, if you look at the NFO file for the two Boondock Saints movies do you see a SET line with a collection name in either NFO file?

Posted

@cayars where will I find the NFO file for the collections?

So by making a change to the scheduled tasks for metadata refresh to be every 6hrs as opposed to weekly, I've seem to have fixed the collection details generate quicker than the most recent issue.

The movie with x3 new movies for a collection was generated within 24 hours as compared to what was happening.

Not sure why even though the settings never changed worked great with the Auto Box Set collection but now don't populate as quickly

The NFO file will be in the same folder as the movie itself assuming you setup the library to save the NFO file into the media directory.

@cayars I've not set it to save the files to the directory with the movie, never needed to refer back to it.

Found the details in the Roaming folder on the server, but think with the move from the Box Set plugin to being managed by the library now I need to scan my metadata more frequently as that seems to have fixed the problem.

I've always had the settings set to be real-time monitoring and never had a issue till now.

Is there a way to configure the library so that under the real-time monitoring it also triggers a scan of metadata somehow to capture the collection details?

Not that I know of.  I "think" this only happens will a full library scan.
I can't remember testing this, so I'll have to set that up and check.

Worst case, with the use of real time monitoring most of the grunt work will take place on new media additions.  Knowing that, you could schedule the full library scan to take place more often, like every 4 to 6 hours so that collections would be built sooner.

@cayars from my testing over the last few days the metadata scan needs to happen more frequently with the way collections are built to happen more efficiently.

It's a pity there isn't a field to add in the metadata under the external ID's for collections.

sadly these are the only ones you can do as this would help fast track situations if there is a collection as you can see from Space Jam Legacy's below

@austie, the scan does not need to run more frequently. The required information will be imported the first time an item is scanned in. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
