Jellyfin is more popular as pirates hate to pay for stuff. Period. The fact it's open source means nothing. Jellyfin is extremely fragmented and still based on Luke's ancient code. Remember, Jellyfin was created because someone didn't like the fact there was a nag screen to pay for an open source product. They created Emby Unlocked and went forward and forked what is now Jellyfin. It's an inferior product that works well enough that people are willing to put up with its issues as it costs them zero dollars, yet costs them time and frustration.3 points

I didn't want to hijack yonker's plug-in thread, so I'm starting this here. I've created 3 sets of icons for this plug in. I called them MaterialLight, MaterialDark, and MaterialBlack. I made them for "me" but would be happy to put them on my GitHub if enough people think they are good enough for them. My main goals were: Readability. Matching Emby's Font and UI as close as possible. Colors that would compliment Emby's, in fact several badges are Emby colors including the available accent colors. Use material design icons, again, going with the usage of Emby's. I attached some screen grabs so you all could get an idea.2 points

Hello, currently if I have music running and start a picture slideshow, I have no options to control the music. I would need to cancel the picture slideshow to control music. Having some basic controls during slideshow to manage the running music would be good (e.g. volume, pause, next and previous) Thank you.1 point

I've noticed ever since updating to 2.0.6 (3) on the Apple TV Emby App the UI doesn't load when opening the app at times. Its just the blurred background. Pressing the buttons on the remote does nothing. The only way to get the UI to appear is closing the app and reopening it. This doesn't happen every time the app is opened, just every now and then, but it is frequent enough to notice. Tried other Apple TVs also and they have the same issue.1 point

Had Emby for a long time now but I never ventured into using it for music. At some point I had an iPod so ripped my music to that, then went onto Google Music and with kids I subscribed to YouTube Premium. Streaming has been my only way to consume music so I let my cassette and CD players bite the dust and not replace them. I now have smart/castable speakers all around the house and it all works fine, except my days of music discovery has gone, I don’t even track if my favourite artists have created any new music since 2015…I switch between 2/3 playlists and occasionally I hear something new on tv. I’ve been avoiding work and suddenly got inspired to see what a music library on Emby looks like. Imported a few of my albums, found some obscure dts and flac tracks I had but had never the hardware to play them before. Amazed that everything just worked, and on devices that can’t Emby transcoded the audio files. Not sure why I was so surprised at Emby for doing this but I had never thought about it! I’m now on a journey of ripping to flac and rediscovering the joy of albums (Baby D - Deliverance ). Never really listened to lossless flac and still trying to work out if they sound better than my old mp3 and streamed YouTube music. I think I can but not sure if it’s the excitement I’m hearing. A/B/C comparisons are tricky to do, that’s probably my next rabbit hole I venture down into. Oh and for anyone else who uses Emby for music, are there any visualisations possible, even a music card or a moving slideshow? All I’m getting is the static album cover and the playback controls, after a while my Emby screensaver kicks in and starts showing my movie posters…1 point

@user24I really like what you’ve done, it’s an interesting take on using artist/album art and creating a mosaic from it, it does inject some ‘life’ into it, so well done! I can’t even remember half of the audio players I’ve used over the years. I can just about remember Winamp from the 90’s So many had cool little effects and visualisations that are largely lost to time now. @Gilgamesh_48- I for one have no issue with you posting in any thread to add your own views and experience. I do get where you are coming from, I have the similar view when friends and families talk about their tv setups and I wonder why they are bothering to watch movies at all if they aren’t going to go all in with home cinema… I guess we all have our own way of listening to music, I pay for a streaming service so I have my playlists and songs to stream all over the house and in the car. I’m happy with it all, whether it’s background or active listening. I’ve even had a dedicated music amp and floor standers just for music, which I’ve dismantled and have stored in my loft for now since my amp died. My interest in listening to music through Emby started out as just an experiment. But now it’s more of an experience to replace watching video, discovering old albums I used to love and also playing around with lossless audio. So it’s an active experience for me, plus my screen is 120’’ so it’s hard to miss even if I’m scrolling on my phone but either way I’m sat down and facing the screen. I do agree if I was into this purely from the audiophile side then yes visualisations and the use of a screen is secondary if not redundant.1 point

Further to my reply I think that this may not realy be an Emby issue. The file has an English soundtrack with no foreign language spoken so the Polish sub track shouldn't really be forced as a forced Polish sub track is only needed if the native language is Polish and a foreign language is spoken at some point in the file. However it did highlight that the (possibly) infered logic of the subtitle settings is not quite what actually happens.1 point

i would like to ask you guys if there is a chance to do in new update possibility to force pdf, cbr, cbz files to display first page as a cover. this would be such a great feature. any chances?1 point
-
I agree that it would be great if emby could generate thumbnails from the first page of a pdf, much like it will generate a thumbnail for a video file. One of the things i use Emby for is sharing sewing patterns with family members, and for these there will never be any kind of metadata to download from a database1 point

Nevermind, Claude came up with a working solution - https://github.com/raphaelyancey/emby-icy-proxy It would be great to implement this small fix upstream though1 point

From what I understand, this was caused by changes to the searching query logic. There was a recent update that introduced searching by multiple phrases (where previously only exact phrases would be searched, even when multiple words were entered). Now when you search, the database is being queried by every word you entered, individually. That's why I believe in some (but not all) cases, putting your search query in quotes "" will make the search actually return, but even then it's still not guaranteed. Emby either needs to revert this change or formally optimize the search query logic.1 point

I doubt it. They way its being built is like having a classroom full of kids make a clay sculpture. No one has a plan for what the end product will look like, and it ends up a misshapen lump. It is being directed but at some point it begins to be pulled in too many directions. As it is it uses a ton of system resources vs. Emby. That will not likely change for the good, but instead will continue to become more and more bloated and require more computing power to run.1 point

For those interested, I made 3 sets of icons for this (still a bit in development). I don't want to hijack this thread, so please have a look here: Icons for EmbyIcons (plug-in) - Fan Art & Videos - Emby Community1 point

Yes, it did, thank you. And in the process of solving the problem (thanks to the community) I also learned something valuable - rely more on TMDB than on IMDB for data about the movies. Thanks to all who responded.1 point

Worth noting that the landscape has shifted quite a bit since 2017 - Cortana has been largely discontinued as a standalone consumer assistant, while Alexa and Google Assistant have matured significantly. That said, the underlying concept of voice-controlled home media is more relevant than ever. For anyone looking to go deeper on the architecture side - building custom voice-driven workflows or integrating NLP layers on top of existing assistants - partnering with an AI agent development company can take things much further than what out-of-the-box Cortana/Alexa SDKs offer. Custom wake words, intent handling, context-aware media commands — all doable with the right stack. On the privacy concern @CharleyVarrick raised - totally valid. Local voice processing (e.g., via Whisper or similar open-source models) is now a viable alternative if you want voice control without the cloud listening in.1 point

Hello, SamES tried to determine why would this format be unsupported, the final conclusion is that it's an issue with the file itself, not with Emby. Thank you!1 point

Working fine now on Proxmox: LXC Debian 13 with 4.9.5.0 LXC Debian 13 with 4.10.0.12 Just a thought, but perhaps it would be better to unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH or LD_LIBRARY_PATH="" as it's usually not set in most default shells (bash & sh anyway).1 point

No! It was caused by not running the executable as an administrator, which I have never had to do before. I guess UAC settings got reset. Thanks for checking up.1 point

I run Emby server in a docker container on Unraid. Just installed 6.0.1.1 and can confirm that it is working again.1 point

Well, I said at the beginning it was probably something simple. I use Windows Browsers. It doesn't matter whether it is on the server itself, or on a remote PC accessing. I've tried all the browsers and the result is the same. I had tried Emby Theater waaaay back when it first came out, and to be honest, it sucked. I was used to the version used in browsers and it was nothing like it.. I never revisited. I installed it today and VIOLA! All my OOS problems when pausing went away AND thank you Emby for giving it the same interface that the browser version has had all along!! Problem solved.1 point

It was meant as a friendly warning for if you pay for access to a server and a troubleshooting step. If you are paying for access to a private server then you are breaking the Emby TOS and we would effectively help you do it. If you are not the admin of the server then some settings on the server could cause the problems and nothing could be done about it. @Suliamuis explaining it very well. To really troubleshoot, replicate the problem and upload a client/server log here. It would make everything much easier to troubleshoot, limit any speculations to what's wrong and help the developers find and fix a protentional problem.1 point

Hi! Chining in as another paid user who REALLY wants faster channel changing. Is this in a beta I should try? Also, did something change in the past 5 years where it got slower? I remember having the option to NOT have live seek ability, and it started the channels faster. Now that option is gone and it takes much longer to change channels.1 point

We are trying to pinpoint it. If you are not paying for access to a emby-server of some other person, then how do you do it? Are you hosting a (GPU)-Server in a DC in Nicaragua yourself, which does the transcoding for you? (Would be quite the luxury, because again this country is not your typical Datacenter-location) Or is this a server somewhere in a private house in Nicaragua running through a private customer ISP-line? What are the specs of that contract? Are you sure you have enough upload-bandwith to stream 4K HDR? According to open statistics about provider speed Nicaragua offers a median upload speed of 22.97 Mbps. This would be not enough for your file above. And it would explain why you can stream 1080p, but not 4k. And it would explain why Amazon Stick behaves the same. And just to make it clear, most folks here are not hosting in an "economically aspiring country" (to use well-meaning semantics), and nonetheless are sticking with 1080p. Getting 4k to run smoothly, especially across continents, is not that easy Sir i am afraid to say. And since you are not asking those questions from a sysadmin-side, but from the client(watchers)-side, it looks like you are not administering this server yourself, correct? Anyway, if you pay for you it, or you don't, it doesn't matter, but the person you should contact in that case is the person who gave you the access/account.1 point

Seems they have this ins 4.10.0.10+, not sure. Says "Fix Hardware Transcoding for HDR Video when Tone Mapping is enabled" but 4.9 doesn't have this fix yet, surprisingly. Not really wanting to spend time testing the beta anymore, sort of fatigued with the emby troubleshooting.1 point

My "ancient server" works just fine 99% of the time. It services 4 clients with no issues besides this odd glitch. I will change the transcoding and funny either the google stream shit its self 2 days ago so I need a new Android box for this TV. I will source non HEVC files. Thanks for the advice.1 point

I already tried and it didn't fix the HW HDR tone mapping.1 point

In my case, as soon as a tab that's attempting to search is closed, the server will unblock and my CPU/Fans immediately slow down.1 point

Yeah, there is an entry of a connection to validate https://mb3admin.com/admin/service/registration/validateDevice? with the result of 'ERR Blocked by Client', which is not something I am familiar with at all. I have made no changes to my setup, which is/was working fine. I have disabled my proxy / vpn and whitelisted the root mb3admin.com. Marked as a solution1 point

To be honest, I just started over (on a different shield). Since EVERYTHING had nfo files it wasn't really a chore (just edited artwork). And things are back to snappy. Thank YOU!!1 point
