Thank you all for the detailed explanations and feedback. Now I understand the reason behind the current spotlight behavior much better, especially the “zoom to fill” cinematic approach and why center cropping is currently being used. I also really appreciate the discussion about Fullscreen spotlight styles and alternative image handling. Hopefully this kind of customization can be considered in future iterations of the spotlight system. I also agree that having a dedicated “Spotlight” image type or customizable spotlight-safe area could be an excellent solution. Especially for users who prefer manually creating customized spotlight backdrops instead of only adjusting the default backdrop positioning. For example, with image editing applications, I could intentionally add black bars or reposition the main highlighted subject toward the center to better fit the spotlight crop behavior across different devices. Having a defined spotlight focus area would make this much more accurate, flexible, and visually consistent. + I REALLY LOVE the spotlight functionality. + Recently added episode is also awesome. Thank you again to everyone for the discussion, explanations, and continued work on improving Emby.2 points

I agree. Everybody should be able to find their best compromise. Sometimes you feel it landed a bit one sided. Like your side got nothing, and the other side got their way. That is why I choose to avoid making decisions that way and find a way to code in something that pleases both sides. Having it card style spotlight diminishes the spotlight. Its just a card. Having the spotlight as fullscreen removes that card. Then you see the full image as expected. The bottom portion might be shaded a bit. But otherwise you should get a cleaner look without having other stuff in the view. With card style other cards to the left and right are there. Small slices of those other cards. The fullscreen style that isn't happening. It just provides a very clean way to show the spotlight. Allowing the image of the card style spotlight to also get changed to a different style would also be interesting. Because then the style of the card would dictate more the size of the card. You would need several sizes of the larger hero card to fit each different type of image. Since you wouldn't want that placeholder to show. Even then you couldn't predict some oddball images which would produce the placeholder effect. The zoom eliminates the oddball images and placeholder effect. That is why it was done. Because it was easier? Sure. Because it was the best way to do it? Sure. Because it isn't finished yet? Sure.. You can say that too. That is likely what happened. It just isn't finished yet and we are blaming it for things that haven't had time to be incorporated yet? Maybe? Probably? I am guessing so. I know lots of stuff has to get worked on at once and at the end of the day you only can do so much. So only so much time can be spent on certain things without other stuff falling behind. Lots of moving parts and you have to move with them. Eventually the spotlight will get something better and even I am unsure of what that may be. The future will tell us what that is. User demand will too. Your posts will help decide too. Thank you for the input.2 points

@yocker It seems to be working now—thank you very much! Now I'll just run a full scan.1 point

Thank you for reporting it. I removed an argument from FFprobe that might cause it to take a while some times and causing the time out on some systems. It's in the catalog now. If this doesn't fix it then it could be a number of things wrong and i would need a log from Emby with debugging enabled as well to fix it. Forgot to say: You can also try and disable video validation. It checks for if there is actually a video stream before running detection, without it and if a file doesn't have a video stream the detection will just fail on the file and move on.1 point

MG, You did not follow the naming guide. Your file names could be causing the problem. I have noticed that more than one dash - in a name causes errors. I have not tested it completely. You use three dashes. The guide only has one. Also, splitting the Season and Episode with a dash can be causing your issue. Of course, since you mentioned one median did not play, then perhaps it has data errors. DId you run it through a media test. Opening a media file in another third party player does not prove the file is correct. Many players like VLC will auto correct. You have to check the media file. https://emby.media/support/articles/TV-Naming.html?q=file naming1 point

I am not sure what fixed it. Played with permissions of the folders and files. Reripped in different codecs. Removed the file, rescanned the library, added back in, and rescanned again. Messed with the metadata. Rebooted the server. All was still acting up. I walked away for about 1 hour, attempted again, and it started working fine. *shrug*1 point

I didn't use a prompt. I asked it to create different mockups in a 16:9 format, and that was one of them. You can upload the ones here as a reference for it and give it these guidelines: Recommended size: 1920 × 1080 Ratio: 16:9 landscape Style: cinematic background + bold centered title + small themed object/icon Corners: optional rounded corners if Emby doesn’t already round them Safe text area: keep the title centered and not too close to the edges1 point

How are your files named and organized? Emby doesn't recognize any episodes for that show (you can also see that there are no episodes/seasons listed on the TV show detail screen, you get Cast row right below the poster) hence you can't mark it Unplayed as there's nothing to Play and no episodes have been parsed in your log.1 point

Thank you all for your help and assistance . At my age I decided there was just to much to learn and do. So I have returned to windows 11. And Emby Installed on that as easy as , no fus.1 point

It really doesn't need to be audio only....if you made the transcode just replace the video stream with a pure black image, that should bring the video stream down to nearly nothing. I think that would be good enough and get us 95% of the way there.1 point

Thank you, I changed naming convention in sonarr, so hopefully this will resolve any issues1 point

Removing and reapplying permissions worked - thank you very much indeed!1 point

Yes! Movies (TV shows) can have 50+ actors. Scrolling back and forth is a pain. The forced horizontal scrolling in Emby is garbage. I am so sick of it.1 point

Thanks for the reply. An interesting and slightly depressing read. Hopefully that will get fixed at some point.1 point

Hello Luke This is already taking a very long time already is very frustrating for me. As maybe others users i do like just to connect to my local embx server within my local network. I am not y nework person and i just stoped to try getting https up an running. I had no luck at all. I have have (had to) startup again the Plex Server an that is working at least. I was switching from plex to emby because emby was much more easy and nice to use and anderstand then plex. Hope this issue will be fixed soon and i can use emby on this stupid titan os again. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all of you and your family Jürg1 point
