Theme Song Manager - Emby Plugin Theme Song Manager automatically downloads theme songs for your TV shows and movies and saves them as theme.mp3 alongside your media files, enabling Emby's native theme song playback on all your devices, for free. Installation This plugin can be installed from Emby Plugin Catalog under the General section. How it works The plugin runs as a scheduled task (every 18 hours by default, also triggerable manually from Emby's Scheduled Tasks section). For each item in your library it tries the following sources in order, moving to the next if one fails: Tunefind - scrapes the show/movie page for a licensed audio preview. For TV shows it uses the configured theme; for movies it picks the best-placed song. YouTube → cnvmp3.com - searches YouTube for the theme, then converts the video to MP3 via cnvmp3.com. YouTube → TSM Converter - same YouTube search, converted via the Theme Song Manager cloud API as a last resort. Ensure your Emby server can access Tunefind and cnvmp3 for quality results and quick execution times. Once a theme is downloaded it is optionally trimmed to the most energetic 45-second window and Emby is notified to pick up the new file immediately. A note on sources & reliability This plugin is and will remain free. All sources used are free and publicly available - additional sources may be added over time. Because of this, you may encounter rate limits or occasional failures, especially on large libraries. This is expected: the task runs on a schedule and will keep retrying, so your library will gradually build up a full theme song collection. The one exception is the TSM Converter, a proprietary converter hosted by me as a fallback option. It is currently free to use, but may become restricted in the future if hosting costs grow significantly due to high utilization. Configuration Setting Default Description Enable Plugin On Master on/off switch Enable Movie Themes On Also download themes for movies Max Parallel Downloads 1 How many items to process simultaneously (max 2). Higher values increase speed but also CPU/network load Search Timeout 10 s Per-request HTTP timeout (max 60 s) Skip If Theme Exists On Skip items that already have a theme.mp3. Disable to force re-download FFmpeg Path (auto) Full path to your FFmpeg binary. Leave blank to auto-detect from Emby's bundled copy or system PATH Verbose Logging Off Log extra detail to Emby's log for troubleshooting Notes FFmpeg is required for Tunefind (the highest-quality source). Without it the plugin falls back to YouTube-based sources automatically. It is usually bundled and found automatically with Emby - only set it manually in case logs mentioned it could not be found. curl must be available on the server for Tunefind fetching to work (pre-installed on Windows 10+, macOS, and all major Linux distros). The task can be run manually at any time from Dashboard → Scheduled Tasks → Theme Song Manager.2 points

You should be able to press the PLAY button on your remote when the item is highlighted. If you have a remote with a PLAY button of course.2 points

Personally, would find it more annoying to click on a thumb to get details, and find the stupid thing starts playing instead. In the web, I disabled the play icon appearing at all.2 points

I frequently use the filter of Unwatched for movies and TV shows. And with music, you get recommendations based upon "similar" artist or songs. I would like a flag option to mark media as "Not Interested" or whatever verbiage would be better for the masses. This would have to be at the user level and not stored in a NFO file since I would like to filter out things my family likes, but only on my profile. As my libraries grow, I am having more content for my family. Since I am the only male in the house, my users have tastes that are distinctly different from mine. Whether it be real surgery shows, true murder, sappy romances, or telenovelas; these are things that I will never - and I do mean never - watch. The same thing goes for the music collection. I don't mind classic musical soundtracks, but my daughters collection of Broadway musicals is vast. And annoying. Now I could make them as Watched, but then that would go into the algorithm "Since you watched this, you might like this...", I would like to avoid doing that. I've poked around quite a bit, but I don't see anything like this currently nor did I see anything like this requested. If it has been requested but called something else, I would love to know about it so I can like that post. Thanks in advance.1 point

Yeah... I remember when this wasn't a problem. If I had the time to wrestle with it, I would go back through old versions to find one that didn't have the issue. This makes Emby pretty much useless for my needs. I'm sure I can't be alone in this, and it makes me wonder how much of the userbase has just walked away instead of complained about it. From my point of view, seems like this would be the number one priority ot fix over some of the changes that they've added that makes Emby worse imho.1 point

Not quite sure how that is even relevant to this thread then. It's nice that you don't have to concern yourself wife and kids collections, but many of us do.1 point

In other words, you are want not to follow the guidelines. You say you want the entire collection in one folder - have you checked out "Collections" in Emby? You add the material in the way that works, then collect it together as you require. Paul1 point

Oh, yeah, if you are on a TV, then you just need a "play" button on your remote for direct playback. That will already work.1 point

After spending quite a bit of time testing settings, this is view of what's happening. Because I use a proxy it can work through multiple versions of a channel before it locks into one that works. Plus there is a channel initiation grace period that is also factored. Roku remotely seems to be sensitive to the time delay. Why at this point I don't know nor care but what I did was: 1) Tell the proxy to spend less time trying each stream before moving to the next. The default is 15 seconds however I had it at 10. I kept lowering the value to the point that Roku did not transcode. That was 6 seconds. 2) Channel initialization default is 5 seconds, same as above, I dropped this value to 3 seconds. So with the 2 combined it could take way over 20 seconds before a working stream arrived and that seemed (to me) that this caused transcoding to just keep spinning up. I initially wanted longer periods to try the best streams first for me at home but that seems to come at a cost. Note that these values apply across the board. Regardless of app or in or off network. My brother tested his channels as well and they all spun up perfectly. Issue closed1 point

No you are not following the naming guidelines. At no point has Emby ever said it's an intelligent media player. And yes you absolutely do have to to remember what they are, or you could edit their .nfo or metadata, or the idiots at TVDB could do "their job" and have things identified properly. This is what you want, I quote.. This is impossible. There is far too much overlap between series and their genres. This is also not how TV sorting/naming works. No one supports this. NO ONE. Again, follow the naming guidelines properly. Anything else is no supported, and probably will never be as again, there are far more important things for the dev team to work on.1 point

Wait, the conversion is started via a browser. But I "tell" it to convert it into a TV format. I don't think that matters, but that's the reason you're seeing Emby-Device-Browser=Google Chrome Linux I guess. I'll send the files in a few minutes via PM. Thank you!1 point

You can also just delete the cloud zerk directory in user roaming directory and reload the app.1 point

Hi, I managed to fix it. Under the tasks folder (view in ssh) the plugin didn't have permission to create the task. I removed the plugin and then redownloaded it after restarting the services, it worked. After several tests, transcoding setting, library, metadata, Tuner and epg, reverse proxy and every single feature also in relation to clients on TVs and apps, this weekend I reset the NAS and reinstalled everything cleanly. I'm very satisfied with Emby, and I purchased the lifetime license. Thanks1 point

Thanks Luke, I did know about those 2 options. What I would like is a middle-ground option, to force "auto" quality so the bitrate I set in "default auto quality" is used , or bring back the option in the screenshot above, that would be exactly what I need. So keep the absolutely necessary transcoding activated but disable or ignore the quality setting (max bitrate) on the client. Thanks,1 point

This should be resolved in the next update to the app. Thanks.1 point

I have also seen very long load times before being able to see downloaded content on multiple iPhone and iPads. From my testing it seems that if you still have a cellular connection on it will cause the buffer before being able to view the content, turning on Airplane mode made the app open almost instantly since it wasn't trying to connect to the server. I think a good solution to this would be to have the Emby App allow you to skip the connection part of the start up and go straight to downloads. Here is a rough example I made:1 point
-
Doing this would make things infinitely more complicated for the dev team, and there are far more pressing items for them to take care of. You would be best served to follow the naming guidelines properly.1 point

Disregard for now. I know the channels this occurred to but I can't identify in the logs when I changed the channel numbers from my proxy that then the channels lost the previous meta data. If it happens again will re-address.1 point

When I click on a person to load their page, it shows me the posters for the movies they were in. Under each poster is the title of the film. What it doesn't have is the name of the character they played. On the movie page, the cast all have pictures below which are two lines: actor name and character name. I'd like to see a similar arrangement on people pages, with the film name and the character name.1 point

OK, a lot to unpack here so apologies that this will be lengthy. For the sake of clarity when I refer to "Emby Connect" I am referring to the general central infra the dev team has together which all internet connected personal Emby instances already report in to. So does not need to be the pre existing "Emby Connect" service if we're being overly literal. But token exchange would most likely rely on a central server. And given we'd be exchanging tokens for the sake of "connecting to emby", calling it part of "Emby Connect" seems fairly logical and straight forward for users to understand. The Emby Connect servers wouldn't need to keep a track of IP's or domains so you've nothing to worry about there. The 'Short lived" in 'short lived token" really means seconds to a couple minutes. After that the token is expired anyway so unusable. So it would simply be purged from the Emby Connect servers. As with Emby Connect already, you need to be willing to trust Emby Connect to some degree to use this feature. And again! Your Emby server is not "private". It is already reporting in to the central servers regularly so it's not like it's existence and details are only known to you. The devs already have a bunch of info about your server (at least its UUID, License, Number of users, obviously IP because the connection to the central server comes from somewhere. Likely a lot more.) Having emby admins needing to spin up nginx to host a webpage with a QR coded URL is not the point here at all if that's what you're referring to in the first paragraph. Its definitely not secure if some kind of deep linking were enabled to allow for emby login (reminder emby login is what this feature is about). We're trying to remove friction, not have people spin up entirely new services adding more friction to hosting/using emby. As an example, I have about 15 people using my emby instance. At least every couple of months one of those 15 friends or family gets a new phone, TV, ipad, streaming device etc. Every single time I see about 3-5 failed logon attempts on my server. And those are only the ones where they typed in the URL correctly, so who knows how many attempts there really were! I also get the inevitable "How do I log into Emby again?" because they've typed their local emby instance username into the Emby Connect fields which obviously didn't work. These are the "normal" users (not the admins) who simply do not care enough to remember the app setup steps each time. They've got better things to think about and just want to hit the happy green icon and watch their shows. I also doubt I have one of the larger user bases. Sounds like your setup is only you using it so you're not really the target of this feature. As for "worthwhile" that's totally subjective so I won't get into any debate on that. ebr and Luke both mentioned the request is being looked at so i guess ultimately they'll decide if it is worth it not us. This feature request is clearly not for you so you have the benefit of never having to use it if it gets created and you can be happy as pie logging in with your domain/port/username/password! The simple fact that this thread exists however, shows there is clearly a desire to have this friction point in UX resolved, even if only commented on by a small few (I suspect the main userbase of this feature wouldn't even know these forums exist because they would be the completely non-technical friends and family of the person who is running the Emby instance). For some context, QR code login like we are discussing is the primary login method Apple uses for Apple TV. Username / Password is reserved as a backup, though admittedly not exactly Apples for Apples (if you don't mind the pun!) but pretty close. And Apple kind of have some experience in UX. Certainly more than you or I! And yes you are correct, URL/port/username/password login does indeed work. But just as a mule also works perfectly fine as a mode of transport, I still want a Ferrari. No-one it trying to take your mule from you. Again, based on what you're saying this feature is not for you. And that's absolutely fine and you'd never have to use it and can spend the rest of your days content! But so avidly objecting to the idea without really having spent time with anyone who has had this friction is a strange hill to die on my friend. Hope this helps give you a little more understanding of the friction point this feature would solve!1 point

@Luke You need to change few things on device management, it is left in year 1999. 1. When editing user devices, after clicking all devices button for user devices, implement DESELECT all devices button, so we don't have to click 300,000 times to deselect all devices in system including all browsers. It does not makes sense at all. 2. If would be much better that on same screen when i manage a user and his devices, emby FILTERS OUT and SHOWS only devices that user is using not ALL. Also does not makes sense that user "tom" shows 150 devices that he never used or loged in.1 point

I don't even think I would use this all that much. I just think it's funny/sad as heck that Devs keep saying it's in their "future plans" after ten years! If you can't get to something in that amount of time then just say why it has not happened and/or close the request. IT'S BEEN TEN YEARS!1 point

I hope the Emby development team continues to delay or completely abandon this idea. Emby is wonderful server software, not library software. Everyone who wants bulk editing of metadata should download MP3tag or a similar program and edit their media files to their heart's content, with the added benefit that if a user changes server software in the future, their data files will still reflect the edited metadata.0 points
