  1. DON'T UPDATE ANY SOFTWARE, HARDWARE, PROCESSES OR CONFIGS UNTIL AFTER THE HOLIDAYS If it's working leave it be. Don't mess with things. Don't even think about it. Unless you want break something, have people bugging you, and be scrambling to fix something when you should be relaxing. Murphy's Law is in full effect for the next week.

  2. A browser's AI reply to the query: "Emby shuffle music is terrible" ...Good lord, even the robots know.... /s "Users have reported significant issues with the shuffle functionality in Emby, particularly regarding a lack of true randomness in music playback across multiple platforms. After upgrading to version 4.9.1.80, users noted that the shuffle feature no longer selects songs from across their entire music collection but instead appears to limit selections to a narrow range of titles, such as those starting with letters from "A" to "H" when the list is sorted alphabetically. This behavior has been observed on both the web app and Android client, with users reporting that shuffle often produces repetitive sequences and fails to include songs from later in the alphabetical list. A recurring complaint is that the shuffle algorithm seems to favor a small subset of songs, leading to repeated playback of the same tracks and a lack of variety, especially in large libraries. One user described the shuffle as "fundamentally flawed" and noted that it affects all platforms and media types, not just Android. The issue has been reported multiple times over several years, with developers acknowledging the problem but no definitive fix having been implemented as of December 2025. Additionally, there are reports of inconsistent behavior when manipulating the playback queue. On the Android app, moving a song within the queue has been observed to trigger a complete re-shuffle of the playlist, which disrupts the intended order. On iOS, the shuffle function fails to recursively flatten nested folders, resulting in only songs from a single sub-folder being played, despite the web client functioning correctly. While some users have suggested that the issue may stem from Emby's use of a non-uniform randomization algorithm—potentially based on C#'s Random class—there is no public confirmation of the underlying implementation. The community has proposed solutions such as maintaining a history of played items to prevent repeats, but these have not been adopted by the development team. As of December 24, 2025, the shuffle functionality remains a persistent source of frustration for many Emby users."

  3. Apparently embedded chapters now show up vertically. They are still separate from the Play Queue (which shows split tracks), and are missing from the audiobook details page, but they do show up in a vertical list now (at least on the Web UI). So I'm gathering that separating embedded chapters from tracks is a choice made on purpose? And apparently split tracks for audiobooks can be re-arranged in the play queue but embedded chapters can not. It's a single step taken in the right direction, but it's the only recent step taken. The Now Playing screen still doesn't show what (embedded) chapter is currently being played; and there is still no seek bar for the current embedded chapter. This means if you have a single audiobook file that is 50 hours long, there is a single 50-hour-long seek bar. Also, and the embedded chapters list, though vertical, does not show which chapter is currently being played. So you still have to mouseover the seek bar to know what chapter you are on.

  4. Tired of seeing end credits before Emby loads the next episode of your favorite TV show? Now you can remove that iritation! EmbyCredits detects those end credits and add a marker for Emby to use so end credits can be skipped. https://github.com/yocksers/EmbyCredits This is either by done chroma fingerprinting and comparing the episodes or by the plugin extracting png/jpg images of the TV show, sending them to a tesseract docker container, the tesseract finds a match and reports that back to the plugin that then adds the skip to Embys database. Emby then shows a "Keep Watching | Next Episode" when it sees the marker. Requirements: yock1/embycreditocr installed if OCR detection is wanted (recommended method). In the plugin you add the Tesseract server IP: IMPORTANT!!!!! As the plugin extracts a lot of images it needs a custom folder to do this as to not fill up Emby docker disk images so set this setting: Then add some keywords to search for (i have added a few but for more precise detection you should add some more that are fitting to your library). Choose a library or a single episode and press process. The plugin can also be set to run as a scheduled task or auto detection for when new shows or episodes have been added to Emby. Speciel thanks to friends who helped developing and @Neminemfor help with testing! If you like this plugin then please consider donating at https://buymeacoffee.com/yockser so i can sit back and relax once in a while with a nice coffee. Disclaimer: Use at your own risk! The plugin has been tested and re-tested but bugs are devious little things that can creep in unnoticed. Do with the plugin what ever you want, change the code, call it your own creation or even take money for it.. I don't care. The original will be here for free!

  7. Maybe a bad idea to show that here as it works as an advertisement for their URL.

  9. If you're on the same machine as the server process you can try to access it via http://localhost:8096. Otherwise did you try to use the local address as mentioned in the first bullet? Barring that, did you try the plain HTTP link as mentioned in the third bullet point? More than likely your browser is automatically trying to use HTTPS, including when using Emby Connect. P.S. You should remove your screenshot it has your public IP on it, which luckily the port isn't open for.

  10. This is correct. A Roku device might work better in your situation.

  11. This is a good reminder of another unfinished business item with the music module, which is that even when a shuffled playlist is generated completely, playback starts somewhere in the middle of the shuffled list, not from the top.

  12. For what it's worth, this is what you can do with a Mixed Content library and Folder View (and my apologies if I'm inadvertently reposting anyone's copyrighted images that I borrowed for the folder art). And there is really no configuration needed, other than adjusting the Sort Titles and choosing images for the main folders. (Although I do agree with @Raelonethat the old version always used to autogenerate images for folders. I don't think I have ever encountered a situation in the previous version where a folder image was simply left blank.)

  13. That field is blank (and always was). I just change these parameters to the following: I'm not at home right now, but once I get back, I'll try flipping some streaming devices in the living room back to the IoT subnet to see if the rate limiting kicks back in again or not.

  18. Sorry to bump, but I've been noticing this as well. I have ~5.5K songs, but shuffle only plays songs at the beginning of the alphabetized list (songs starting with a number or symbol, or the letter 'A'). I'm running version 4.9.1.90, and I've noticed this in both the browser and the android app.

  20. 4.9.4.1 is close but not quite right yet. If you have deeper than 2 folders deep that images still do not propagate all the way up. 4.8 - 4.9.4.1 beta The ones that have the ugly placeholder as folders within folders (collections within collections). If I drill into DCU Movies all is right at that level Definitely headed in the right direction though.

  21. Hi Everybody and Luke in particular not sure if this is the right place but i just feel the desire to share my recent expeiriance: First: What a great software! I have been looking for a better way to manage my largish musik library in a consistent and accessible way. I come from owntone as a solution for streaming to my homestereos in a few rooms (using rasberry pi 4s with hifiberry os and the great sounding hifiberry dacs). While this worked ok it comes nowhere close to the navigation and metadata capabilities of emby. For those who are interessted here is my setup: I have set up an emby server on a linux machine wich is running 24/7 anyway to manage homeassistant for PV and car charging. The mediafiles are on a mounted external HD. I have also made this drive accessible for my Windows PC via a Samba share. This makes it easy to drop new music directly to the drive and use tools like mp3tag and dupeguru to fine tune my library. All changes are flawlessly picked up by the emby server and augmentet with meta information automaticly. Great! I very quickly decided to buy a lifetime premiere subscribtion - mainly to support the further developement but i also like the backup option for the peace of my mind What makes my usecase even better is using symfonium on my android phone. I set this up with the emby server as the only media source and instructed it to cache everthing to a (large) sd card. Having my library accessible offnine (car, walking, cycling, travelling....) has always been important for me but manually copying the lirary was tiresome and i frequently fell behind.....not to mention the missing metadate. Now it works effortless, supports Android Auto and even syncs playlists 2way Kind regards an have a good holyday season and a perfect start to 2026!

Bedankt Freerk Verheul

  25. I’ve been trying out Emby on the KICKPI KP2 Google TV Stick over the past few days. It’s a small Google-certified device based on the Amlogic S905Y4 chip. For anyone curious about the hardware, here’s the product page:KICKPI KP2 Google TV Stick Since it runs Android 12 (Google TV), installing Emby from the Play Store was straightforward. The app found my server right away, and basic playback (H.264 / H.265) worked without issues. I’ve only tested a few files so far, but navigation and loading feel smooth. Network-wise, it’s dual-band Wi-Fi, and the device supports 4K output. Nothing unusual there, but it seems stable enough for normal use. Just sharing this in case anyone is looking at smaller Google TV sticks for running Emby. If anyone else has tested this model, I’d be interested to hear your results too.

  26. I tinkered around with the apps years ago and found that simply using a browser everywhere is the most simplest solution. Nowadays Firefox even plays MKV directly. There is actually very little need to support and compile for so many different devices when every device nowadays, which has a Monitor, does also have a browser. And you can mod the webclient as much as you like and it looks everywhere the same. With this gnome-mod one can build an emby-client on a cheap mini-pc or SBC which utilizes the web-interface through a browser and always loads into it when starting: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-kiosk Little config-tutorial here: https://fedoramagazine.org/build-a-kiosk-with-fedora-silverblue/ That way you also don't have to use any proprietary "media sticks" or your TV-OS, which often are not only slow but also bloated with advertising and, and that is just a little bit careful speculation, of course you don't have to log in to your emby-server from a device that is technically owned and controlled by people that might at some point do something against private media servers when their telemetry says that too much people are using it...

  27. It would be great to have an option to rewatch tv series. Some times it's hard to tell what was the last episode watched if the entire show has been marked as watched. It occurs to me that this can be done with a counter that can differentiate if the numbers of plays is odd or pair showing a different color marker on each episode accordingly, so if the entire show has been watched again all episode should have the same color.

  28. Forgive me if such a feature request already exists. I have searched. The ability to rewatch a show we've already seen and have it show up in continue/next up. If all episodes of a show are marked watched, but you watch episode 1 of that show again, episode 2 should show up in continue/next up even though it's marked as watched.

  29. I have a very long playlist, with 2000+ songs (I listen to a lot of music, okay) and I've noticed that once you hit Shuffle, the list of queued songs only goes up to around 1000. Fair enough, but I've noticed even after multiple shuffles that songs later on in the playlist aren't sampled by the shuffle. It's much more apparent when sorting by Title instead of Playlist Order, because all the songs in the queue have letters in the first half of the alphabet. Basically it results in me only hearing the first half of my long playlist whenever I shuffle it, which is a shame because I'd like to hear my newly added stuff also. Any ideas for a solution or a fix? If you need any more information just ask. Thanks.

  30. I do not use Emby for music or other audio at all. I wanted to and i tried but there just are too many problems to get things working correctly, at least for my use. I love Emby but I do NOT recommend Emby for music. There are a number of other ways to play music that are much easier and better than using Emby. I use MediaMonkey for audio but that also may not be best for many. I suggest finding a separate system for audio that fits in with how you want to listen. And remember that Emby works best for viewing but there is little need for viewing when listening to audio. There is much to be said for using one app for all media consumption but Emby is so oriented toward video that forcing it to handle audio is mostly, in my belief, is counterproductive at best. Maybe Emby would work better for audio for me if there was a good audio client that did not need a TV interface for setup and control but I have not found one, at least yet.
