  1. The point is that for years and years, we didn't have to. All we want is the old functionality available, not more work for us to do to get it to look right. Emby should be concerned about giving the best impression it can without additional interaction. If I want to replace the image Emby chooses, fine. But I shouldn't have to do it myself when, for years and years, it worked this way. Again, it does the image selection just fine when it is a folder with subfolders (two levels). But only 2 levels. Not doing the same behavior for 3+ levels is a bug IMO. There is no reason to treat two levels any different than 3+ levels. Propagate a single image from one of the folders below up to the parent level by default. I can change what images I do not want that I don't like the one Emby picked for me, then I can. If the point is to make available legacy behavior, they are not there yet, but like I said, this is a great step forward. The code to do this properly is still in Emby because the "4.8" screenshot is actually a library that started life back sometime 4.8 or earlier, but it continues to work the "legacy" way even in 4.9.1.90.

  2. I mentioned it in another thread, but thought I'd put it here since this looks like a new section--just for posterity. Would like to have a bulk meta data editor function. For example, if I have 750 videos whose producing studio is the same, I want to select those videos and apply the name of the studio to those videos. Similarly, if there is a custom tag I want to apply to a subset of those movies, I want to be able to select them in bulk and apply the tag to those videos (instead of selecting them one by one).

  3. Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless

  4. Something not behaving how you wish it to isn't a bug . There actually is - complexity and performance. Additionally, not sure it makes all that much sense to search multiple levels down a file chain until you find something with an image. If one is designing custom categorized folders, I would think you'd want an appropriate image on those folders as opposed to just some random poster from something way deep within that container. Wouldn't it be much better to have a "Disney" image on your Disney folder? You only have to create it once.

Also Filme an neuen Pfad kopieren, Bibliothek erstellen, alles außer NFO aus. Nachdem alles eingelesen wurde, Bibliothekseinstellungen -> Scraper aktivieren. Danach hinzugefügte Filme, sofern Sie kein Cover im Medienordner mitbringen, wird per scraping was gesucht.

  6. Can a reference to "films-Davey" remain in Emby dabse, if just the file folder was deleted and Emby was not used to delete the media? I would think a 'Scan all libraries' might fix this.

  7. 4.9.4.1 is close but not quite right yet. If you have deeper than 2 folders deep that images still do not propagate all the way up. 4.8 - 4.9.4.1 beta The ones that have the ugly placeholder as folders within folders (collections within collections). If I drill into DCU Movies all is right at that level Definitely headed in the right direction though.

  10. Sorry for the late reply, the holidays have been quite stressful. One of my boot disks failed or had a bad connection, and my server was rebooting every 12 hours over the last few days. But I’m using ZFS, so that shouldn’t be a problem for data stored on it. I’m not sure whether that was the problem or if it’s something else. It has been working so far, but I don’t think that was the actual solution or the core problem with Emby. I have a boot order configured so that TrueNAS starts before the Docker host, so every time I rebooted the system, it worked. That shouldn’t be an issue. My server has 64 GB of RAM and an AMD EPYC 4364P 8-core processor. It has an average load of 2–5%, and about 60% of the RAM is used. I’m only running these three VMs. The Docker host has 16 GB of RAM and 4 cores, and it’s not using all of that, at least if htop is telling the truth. I don’t think system load is the problem. I will check the logs the next time Emby goes down. I have a feeling it might happen again today, and I hope I’ll see more in the logs now that I switched to the “hard” NFS option. I’m managing everything via the CLI and Nano: yes, sorry, Nano, not vi . I’m using Docker Compose. Yesterday, after chatting with ChatGPT, I added this option to the Docker Compose file: - /mnt/nfs:/mnt/nfs:rw,rshared It’s running fine now, but this whole NFS topic is new to me, and I’m not very experienced with it. I didn’t know that scanning uses basic NFS properties. My homelab is mainly for learning, and for me, ChatGPT is a good tool to learn quickly, combined with other sources to finetune things and experiment. Luke, can you take a look at my private chat? It’s not related to the topic here, but you’ll understand once you read it. Thanks

  11. Did you try using the duplicates filter in the movies tab to see if the new file got merged with something else?

  12. Yes this does work. I’m trying to find a way to do it en masse when I convert 10+ files at once. I’m looking for a possible solution to mass edit the metadata to remove the 3D field without having to individually toggle it off in each one at a time.

  13. The problem was resolved on its own, I don't know what changed except my router (I had about 800mbps so it would be weird if it was the reason) Thanks for the help!

  14. I may be wrong but http/https requests and responses get all logged when debug logging is enabled and I did not think there would be a distinction between API requests and those coming from the Emby Apps. If you find some do not get logged, let me know

  15. Hi, this can happen if the extraction takes a long time in your environment. We are working on a new way to stream them in little by little so that it doesn’t have to wait for the full extraction.

  16. Try changing the name; I know it sounds silly, but it works for now. As for updating the metadata, I think I already did that, but since it's noted, I'll check it on the 24th and 25th. Which LG TV isn't working for you? I'm having problems with two OLEDs, one from March, I think, and the other has a June/July manufacturing date, both from 2025... I get the same error with a Philips Ambilight, but it's 2 or 3 years old, compared to the LGs, which are all 4K TVs. The Philips, which I think costs about the same, is terrible.

  17. apparently even though i removed the previous downloads, they were still present on my iphone, resulting in full storage. Full storage causes the same issue as appeared before. The download keeps restarting, probably retrying until space has been freed up. Conclusion: Removed downloads manually from file explorer on my phone, emby downloads now work again

  19. It would be nice if under the scheduled task notifications of the plugin we could pick which scheduled tasks we want to be notified of being completed or failed. Mainly all the refresh ones. Refresh users, refresh connect data, refresh guide, refresh internet channels. None of these are even options on the scheduled task area

  20. I had the same problem and it turned out my email was typed wrong in Emby Connect. Double-checked it, fixed the typo, and the confirmation email came through right away.

  21. Many thanks for your reply. I have installed both versions so i dont get caught out again. I changed the theme on the Samsung Store app and it also changed the USB app too. Having the Youtube trailers is important to me so the USB app has that feature. I will leave the Samsung Store app installed next time i do a USB install to see if it retains the settings.

  23. Add structured eBook metadata fields to Emby so books can be indexed, searched, filtered, sorted, synced, and surfaced with the same quality as video and audio libraries. Problem Current handling of eBooks in Emby is limited. Important fields are missing or unindexed, which makes large libraries hard to organise. Users who migrate from Calibre or other managers lose rich metadata, reading progress, and annotations. Proposed solution Introduce native models, scanners, UI, and API support for the following fields. Core fields Title. Main identifier for the eBook. Used in listing and searching. Author/Editor. One or many. Essential for grouping and sorting. Language. For filtering and display. Series. Series name and number, sortable. File Format. EPUB, MOBI, PDF, AZW3, CBZ, etc. Drives renderer choice. Identifier. Unique ID next to ISBN, such as, DOI, UUID, or an internal GUID. File Path / Location. Absolute path for local and NAS items. Optional fields Publisher. Useful to separate commercial and indie content. Subject / Genre. Fiction, Non-fiction, Sci-Fi, Thriller, etc. Tags / Keywords. Freeform labels for flexible search and smart lists. Reading Progress. Per user last read location, bookmarks. DRM Status. Enum: Unknown, None, Present. Word Count / Page Count. For size filters. Rating. Per user and external ratings. Last Accessed / Last Read. Per user activity to support “Continue reading”. Annotations / Highlights. Per user notes and highlights, exportable. Data model Add a new BookItem entity that extends the existing BaseItem. Scalars: Title (string), Language (ISO 639-1), SeriesNumber (decimal), DateAdded (datetime), DatePublished (date), Format (enum), DrmStatus (enum), WordCount (int), PageCount (int), RatingExternal (float), RatingUser (float), LastAccessedUtc (datetime). Collections: Authors (list of person refs), Editors (list), Identifiers (list of type:value), Tags (list), Subjects (list). Per-user: ReadingProgress (location plus percent), Bookmarks (list), Annotations (list of location plus text and timestamp). Paths: Path (string), LibraryId (guid). Indexing and search Index Title, Authors, Series, Language, Publisher, Tags, Subjects, Identifiers. Sort keys: Title, Author, SeriesName+SeriesNumber, DatePublished, DateAdded, PageCount, WordCount, Rating. Ingestion and metadata Add an eBook library type in Library Setup with supported extensions and a priority order: EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, PDF, CBZ, CBR. Parse embedded EPUB OPF metadata, PDF XMP, and sidecar .opf files produced by Calibre. Optional metadata providers: Google Books, Open Library, ISBNdb, Goodreads export files. Providers should map cleanly to core fields and never overwrite user edits unless requested. Support Calibre migration: read Calibre library structure, .opf sidecars, and metadata.db when available in read-only mode. UI and UX Library views: Grid, list, and series views with badges for format, language, and DRM. Detail page: Title, series breadcrumb, authors, description, identifiers, subjects, tags, publisher, publication date, format, page count. Actions for “Read”, “Download”, “Mark as finished”, “Add bookmark”. Reader integration: For EPUB and PDF, an in-browser reader that persists per-user progress, bookmarks, and annotations. If a built-in reader is out of scope, expose progress endpoints so external readers can update state. Filters: Language, series, publisher, genre, tags, format, size, DRM, rating, date added, date published. Smart playlists and collections using the new fields. API contracts Extend the public API: GET /Items?IncludeItemTypes=Book with new query filters series, language, publisher, format, drmStatus, minPageCount, maxPageCount, subject, tag. GET /Users/{id}/Books/{itemId}/Progress and POST to update progress, bookmarks, and annotations. POST /Items/{itemId} allows updates to book metadata with field-level overwrite controls. WebSocket events for progress updates to sync multi-device reading. Permissions and privacy Store annotations and progress per user. Do not expose one user’s notes to others unless explicitly shared. Allow metadata locking at the item and field level. Migration and compatibility Backfill DateAdded from file system timestamps if no prior value exists. Detect duplicates by Identifier or by fuzzy match on Title, Author, Series, and Page Count. Do not break existing audio-book flows. Keep AudioBook separate from Book. Performance considerations Defer parsing heavy PDFs until requested or during low-priority background tasks. Cache OPF and XMP reads. Respect library scan schedules. Acceptance criteria A user can import a mixed EPUB, MOBI, and PDF library and see correct Title, Author, Language, Series, Format, Identifier, Path, Date Added, and Date Published without manual edits. A user can filter by Language and Series, sort by Date Published, and search by ISBN. Reading progress persists per user across devices for EPUB. Optional fields are editable in the UI and via API and are indexed for search. Export of per-user annotations to JSON is available. Nice to have, phase 2 OPDS server for books using the new metadata. Goodreads or Open Library sync for ratings and shelves. Calibre two-way sync for edits and progress.

  24. Hey, I can try and help test. I have the HDHomeRun Flex 4K, but haven't had the chance to get the antenna in the final spot so I haven't bothered bringing it into Emby. Right now I only get a few channels at where the antenna is located. What device are you using? (Assuming Google TV device based on comments) How long does it take the feed to get messed up? What is this setting set to on your server? I added the tuner directly in emby without the allow hard transcoding and have been running a feed for over 20 minutes with no issues. I am using MacOS and my Google with Chromecast TV running the Android version (not Android TV) and got the same results one each one, no feed issues. Here are the stats from the feed. Lastly if nothing else works and if you have the means to do so I would look into Dispatcharr. This would act like a middle man between your tuner and Emby. But you can adjust the stream profiles that are being sent to Emby and that could possible help with getting a stream. It has other useful tools, but thought it could help troubleshoot if nothing else works.

  25. Luke, Been a while my friend. You guys have been doing great so no need to contact you over the last several years. However, this is too important not to speak up. Please make sure these guys know the gravity of the mistake they are making. There are thousands of us who have hundreds (some thousands) of DVD's and Blu-ray's in the libraries that Emby a fantastic product helped us create and enjoy. To leave us hanging and stuck with no external payer is UNACCEPTABLE. While using the "old" version is a workaround the new player must have it for many more years as these libraries will not transition overnight. It was the height of "corporate" arrogance (not something we would expect from you guys as a team) to leave it out and release it in the first place. Hopefully this will be corrected soon. Please share this email with the team so they can show us that EMBY has not sold out to and "grown" into a cold corporate entity that does not care about the group that got them there. Congratulations on the growth and success we helped you create. Dance with the one who brought you though cause karma catches up with organizations that abandon their core values and core users. All the best Kevin Easton

  28. I notice there is no option for choosing external player on specific videos. Once you set the external player, all videos will opened in that player, but sometimes I only want a few videos to be played by external player. So I would say add a button, which opens the video in external player, on the movie/video page is a good idea.

  30. I do not use Emby for music or other audio at all. I wanted to and i tried but there just are too many problems to get things working correctly, at least for my use. I love Emby but I do NOT recommend Emby for music. There are a number of other ways to play music that are much easier and better than using Emby. I use MediaMonkey for audio but that also may not be best for many. I suggest finding a separate system for audio that fits in with how you want to listen. And remember that Emby works best for viewing but there is little need for viewing when listening to audio. There is much to be said for using one app for all media consumption but Emby is so oriented toward video that forcing it to handle audio is mostly, in my belief, is counterproductive at best. Maybe Emby would work better for audio for me if there was a good audio client that did not need a TV interface for setup and control but I have not found one, at least yet.
