Latest version (0.5.4) can be found at yocksers/EmbyReporter: Report issues in Emby I have had this plugin running for a nearly half a year now for my own use and have decided to share it. It enables users to report issues with videos. This is done by right clicking a video and pressing the "report issue" in the context menu. It does this by injecting a small script in the actionsheet.js file in Emby. The plugin does this for you when you click the "install client script", clicking the "remove client script" restores the actionsheet.js back to normal. A backup file will be created when installing the script. The plugin can also be set to send notifications through Emby with forexample Pushover so you get notifications on you phone or other devices when a report is made by a user. In the settings there is a log of the reports made so reports made can easily be seen. Limitations: This only works in the webclient and not the apps. Please report any problems and suggestion for improving the plugin to me.4 points

To be fair - there is a whitepaper that was published post the incident detailing how they did this via the auto-update on the Plugin side of things - relying 100% on user activation. They did not remotely have the ability to change anything. It's all here via the blog -4 points

I would say Emby subscribes to the concept of "security through obscurity", but even that would still require some actual obscurity. Maybe they're just waiting for another mass exploit so they can write another blog post about taking down a massive botnet, framing themselves as heroes, while leaving out the part about how their poor security practices are what enabled it in the first place.4 points

Update: It's working now. DNS on my client computer was blocking the Premiere activation.2 points

New version is up (1.0.4.0) Added: Intro Skip backup and restore functions. Custom filename option for artwork. Added file browser for folder selections. Changed: Removed save button as settings now auto save. Download here or on Github: MetaExtractor: Extract metadata from Emby. MetaExtractor.dll2 points

New plugin: MetaExtractor. From the idea of @GrimReaper Github page: https://github.com/yocksers/MetaExtractor This plugin is designed to extract metadata and artwork from server's metadata folder/db for Movies, TV shows, Seasons and episodes. It can be configured to extract precisely the metadata you want plus all the artwork. The metadata and artwork will be extracted as an NFO file named the same as the video the data was extracted from and appropriate image type(s), and be will placed in the media directory. It can also backup and restore intro skip markers in videos. This is so you no longer have to wait for Emby to finish scanning intro markers on videos when/if you have for example migrated your server. The data will be extracted to a json file in a location chosen by the user. Installation: Download the latest version here or from Github. Stop your Emby Server. Copy the .dll file into your Emby Plugins folder: Windows: \Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\plugins Linux: /var/lib/emby/plugins Docker: /config/plugins (depending on your mapping) Start Emby Server. Go to Dashboard -> Plugins to verify it is loaded. Lastest version: 17. Devember 2025 - v1.0.4.0 If you like and use the plugin and feel generous you can donate a coffee at: https://buymeacoffee.com/yockser This is absolutely not required as i'm happy as long as people like the plugin. Big thanks to @GrimReaperfor the idea and help with the plugin! If you also have ideas for the plugin then please share and i will look into implementing them if possible. MetaExtractor.dll1 point

With College Football and NFL seasons starting up in the States, a multi-screen option for Live TV would be a nice addition to the Emby feature set. I am thinking of what the WatchESPN app offers thru their Web Browser access. The ability to open a multi-screen window that breaks into four (4) screens that allows you to select streams (Live or Replay) for each and then go full screen. Audio is from whichever of the four screens you have as active. I can accomplish the same right now with the HDHomeRun Quick View TV app. I open multiple instances of the Windows app and then snap them to each corner on my 110" projector screen. Equivalent of four (4) 55" screens. Would be nice if this were a remote friendly option from within Emby Theater and the WebUI clients. I have only seen it in Web Browsers at the moment and not any of the Win10 UWP apps (FS GO, NBCSn, WatchESPN). But, Fox Sports Go just released a multi-screen solution for their Apple TV app. https://techcrunch.com/2016/08/26/fox-sports-go-hits-apple-tv-allows-viewing-of-four-games-at-once/1 point

Not a problem, it used to be a lot worse.. have a pause at the top of every hour. But I stopped converting on my files using emby and now I use MCE buddy.. and then I went through and cleaned up all the recordings that were in there that were not recording anything anymore. Maybe there's something I missed, I'm not sure why the convert function is still functioning when I have no convert jobs. I did notice that the other day. But anyways I had a lot of tasks on both of those menus it kind of just builds up over time. But it seems like the problem had disappeared for quite some time I'm not sure why the problem has came back. Maybe it has nothing to do with any of this but just wanted you to know for your knowledge. I'm just dumped on why my emby is lacking power and it's not eating up my CPU at all. When this current problem happens none of my CPUs show any difference. They all bumping around somewhere between two and 10% at the time that emby is stuck. Thanks in advance I know you're busy and all1 point

Thanks for posting this. Mixed Content is doing the same thing. I was initially unsure if I had a weird issue going on with restoring my 4.8 backup, and well as contending with some semi-corrupted 4.9 NFO files, but at this point I'm pretty sure that this new setting does not quite get us all the way back to the 4.8 functionality. Which is not a complaint against the devs; I appreciate that we've gotten some amount of progress--and we all know by now that their test environments are not altogether equipped to evaluate this sort of folder setup. But this next step of promoting metadata and being able to access content context menu options rather than folder context menu options are sort of the main things that we lost in 4.9, so it's important to get that back too. At any rate, I just wanted to suggest to all of the fellow advocates tracking this topic that this is not yet a Christmas miracle, but there's technically still a week left for @Luketo drop a new beta down the chimney.1 point

Hi, I have the same complain on auto selection. May I ask to add an option to the server when checked, instead of auto selection it suggests the user to pick the version they like to play? In my case I have 2 versions of movie: 4k remux and 4k web dolby vision version. I prefer the last one and know that I need to pick it from version list before hitting Play, which I might forget to do. And even after I picked the version I like, started watching, and then hit Back on remote control, Emby automatically swiched back to bluray version. So I have to pick again another version. And that is really annoying. Moreover with tv series its even worse - going back afer each episode starts playing to pick the version I like is nightmare - there would be great if the popup dialog I spoke above included "Remember selection" checkbox for tv series. I know it's not a critical thing as you might think and affects small amount of users, but from user perspective having this dialog would resolve most of issues discussed ear6in this topic.1 point

How is your network setup? The firesticks will of course be wifi, are they connected to 2.4 or 5 ghz? Is your server wired via ethernet or also using wifi? Can you use another computer, preferably something that can be either wired or wireless? The approach I would take is start by using another computer, and specifically the web browser since it's less likely to support EAC3 and will require an audio transcode so it will deliver TS segments in the same way, and compare the durations seen via wired, and then via wireless. If the wired durations are fast, but wireless it slow, then you know to shift focus there. If you have multiple access points or range extenders, maybe they are inadvertently connecting to one that's too far away, or maybe there's too much 2.4 ghz interference if they're on that network. I have a Unifi access point and it's pretty typical for me to see 40-50% or more interference on the 2.4 Ghz range, sometimes I hear pops and crackles in my wireless headset since it also uses 2.4 Ghz. I wouldn't expect it to crawl along that slowly, I'm not sure how big each segment is to do a rough calculation on the speed, but it seems like it's at least 3-5 Mbps based on the source 12 Mbps and the durations for real time playback being 2-3x the 3 second segment duration. EDIT: Small correction, since the video isn't being transcoded these are actually 6 second segments. So only 1 segment was actually fast enough to be delivered on time, meaning it's still slower than 12 Mbps on average. -segment_time 00:00:06.0001 point

The Movies Library already has the option to collapse, BUT it still treats the collapsed Items as "Folders" and not "Media Items". So even though it prevents the extra click, it still does not promote the metadata to the top level. I guess we would like to make it clear that the Legacy View should act like version 4.8 where collapsed items are treated as single Media Items and not just folders minus one click.1 point

OK, the problem has been resolved. I uninstalled Emby, reinstalled the official Synology version, entered the premiere key again, and then it was successfully activated...1 point

It would be great to have that option in movie-type libraries too... Any idea when we can get this update? Or any beta users to weigh in about this issue?1 point

Sure, I'm not saying you are wrong and clearly you are on the right path - I'm simply making a suggestion. IoT is for anything untrusted - Including Emby server and any Emby client (FireTV's, Nvidia Shields, TV's) - to me they are ALL untrusted as I didn't build them and they contain no PII data, so they all sit on an IoT network. Perimeter proxies and f/w sit in a DMZ vlan. I also happen to have an automation vlan/network - that is seperate from IoT as it's even less trusted and can largely sit in isolation. You don't put your network management on the core vlan, you have a dedicated vlan (usually the default lan-VLAN 1) so in the event of any issue - you can get to the management interfaces without the need for VLAN configuration ... btw, I have run corporate enterprise network systems for many years - so while this may seem obsessive in a home environment, I'm just following good security practice.1 point

I wanted to keep the NFO files as clean and compatible with Kodi as possible so kept the intro skip as separate json files. Having it in the nfo file could of cause negate the problem of different files of the same show needing different intro skip markers. I might look into that one day but for now it's just a simple backup for the files people already have. I'm in no way trying to get to the scope your plugin is/did. Just a small backup for if the database gets borked or something like it. I very much appreciate the offer though.1 point
-
..and this is the fundamental problem. On a cold restore, your id's will be different. I can probably bring some experience into this - as I was part of the original Introskip Plugin and worked with Cheese on the Introskip backup/restore (the original idea for it in the first place came from me ..) The metadata for IntroStart/IntroEnd/CreditStart/CreditEnd (the hidden chapters) should imho just be stored in the NFO - unrelated to the emby id - use a 3rd party provider for the key - tmdb episode id would make sense. The plugin just needs to read this, THEN associate to the emby id (it will have the same key as a provider), re-sort the chapter timestamps and write the new chapter info. From memory, emby doesn't 'need' the original files created to analyse the Intro but will attempt to do so if they don't exist - so some fudging may be needed here. As you have released the source, I may take a look and try and help if I can.1 point

I tried both TV-Shows and Movies. Now when you mention it i tried the others as well, and i can see it in Mixed. Maybe that's the point? I was kind of hoping it would be there for movies and shows aswell..1 point

that would be amazing if you could, and hope that you do - thank you!1 point

It is not too late for getting the data from Gracenote for the 10th December . I understand but please send your feedback to Titan. That is the best way to get this taken care of as quickly as possible. Remember that other server has a relay feature that routes everything through their own severs when a direct connection isn't possible. But doesn't that feel like a privacy violation? Don't you want a personal media server rather than one that puts all of your information into the cloud to sell to the highest bidder?1 point

It seems to me that you are running a network setup which is beyond your capabilities to manage. Perhaps you have a friend, or (cliché!) a nephew, who might be able to help you learn how to run it effectively. Trying to teach you through this forum seems to be largely ineffective. Paul1 point

The Backup and Restore plugin does not backup the folders for the media and you would need to have separate backup process for that. When saving nfo's - these are always stored with the media files The default metadata subfolders that get backed up covers genres, collections, tags, studios. Other metadata sub-folders can be optionally added to the backup1 point

I also have a 5000+ movie collection - all in folder structure - some by genre - some by decades. I usually sort movies by date added - which for folders which are numbered - I change the 'date added' for the folder via metadata - so that folders will sort by that date (01 - Genre A - date added 17/07/2023, 02 - Genre B - date added 16/07/2023). For Film Noir - I have hundreds of movies - sorted by Date Added - and then use the green tick (watched) - to know which one to next pick. That no longer works. 4.9.1.80 ruined that. The first nightly run of the server after I upgraded to 4.9.1.80 - 8 November 2025 - changed the DATE ADDED to that date. Bottom line - for 5 years I have meticulously curated my movie collection into folders - as instructed - with the .nfo files and artwork. The server upgrade prompt for 4.9.1.80 made no mention or warning that I was about to destroy that 5 years structure. EMBY - I trusted you. I supported you $$. Those of us that use folder structures - deserve better than being ambushed by 4.9.1 point

This is one of the things about this product/dev team that will annoy me to end of time. Why limit options that many users would want/use solely because other users don't bother to use them. What? Example: What if I have a sun roof in my car and I've never used it. Should that mean that all car manufacturers should stop putting sun roofs in all cars? Just because I don't use mine? MORE OPTIONS ARE ALWAYS BETTER. Why limit features solely based on the thought that only some people will bother to use it? For those people who use it/them they are going to be happy and THAT'S what should matter. I don't have a dog in this fight as I don't use folder view often, but I've definitely have had my issues with this dev team's choices/changes they have made to the UI of this product. The lack of REAL customization of the UI in this product is kind shameful given it's origin with WMC/Media browser plugin. All those amazing themes/options. But what do I know.1 point

And I don't know how many people are following this topic, so I will politely mention all of the posters here who have either already stated their support for fixing this problem, or at least are directionally aligned with not breaking things in the software that used to work and be used. Not that I want to put words in anyone's mouth or attribute any particular position. I'm just asking everyone here to please read the new post. Which I forgot to link to previously. Here it is: Anyone who wants to see this changed back, or just wants the devs to attempt to make a really convincing explanation as to why this is an improvement, please look at the new post and give it a +1 (and perhaps also a comment if you are feeling exceptionally passionate). @Ronstang @adminExitium @ZanderKeen @AnotherMatt @Painkiller88 @TRAE @Trevor68 @dakinggp33 @halitayarci @Lacasita @jasmine961 point

I've lost track of how many times this has been brought up over the years, with troubleshooting steps basically being typing: "No, that can't be done." This is a great addition to any server (not only for those users that were unaware of saving metadata/artwork with media in the first place or users that decided to change their setup halfthrough), sort-of perma-backup in place, on-demand. Great work. As a sidenote, kudos, you have made several really useful plugins lately, well done. Keep up the good work. Cheers1 point
