It was hinted that 'smart views' would be released in 4.9.x - as the next priority - so I'm really hoping this is true from @Luke https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/142975-post-49180-roadmap/#findComment-1474402 The ability to view collections or playlists as dynamic virtual libraries on the landing page for all the apps will greatly enhance plugins such as this, assuming (essential imo) there is an API hook into the core feature.. Also - the latest beta has a fix that hints the virtual libraries may exist as 'channels' ..3 points

This may or may not help you in the interim but the old Android TV app does have a separate external player setting for Live TV.2 points

I found Beszel, it's free and does the basic monitoring I wanted. For anyone who wanted something similar2 points

It would be awesome to have RTSPS being supported in the WebStreams plugin. I have devices which are solely capable of RTSPS (they do not accept unencrypted RTSP) and would like to integrate them. Adding it, just gives this error: Found this forum post which claims it should work, but practically it doesn't:1 point

Ill take screenshots when I'm home. But vague example, if there is an episode of a show in season 1 called "the dinner party", and on the dvd there are deleted scenes from The Dinner Party. If i create a folder in season 1 called "deleted scenes" and then put a file in that folder called "Deleted Scenes_The Dinner Party", emby will search the whole folder, find that file name, and make it an alternate version of the episode. I have 100% described this issue a long, long time ago, as well.1 point

@rbjtech@Luke That'd be awesome! @AmythingHave you planned something similar for music/books, by the way?1 point

There's not really a error per-se, it looks like it's actively checking the "Source Location" for a valid protocol. As mentioned in the title, I'm trying to use RT, such as: rtsps://user:pass@192.168.1.1:322/streaming/live/1 (removing "user:pass" doesn't change the outcome/error) The logs only indicate this during the "Save" event: 2025-12-04 20:56:39.713 Info GenericUIApiService-xxx:0000020D: http/2 POST https://localhost:8096/emby/UI/Command?X-Emby-Client=Emby Web&X-Emby-Device-Name=Google Chrome Windows&X-Emby-Device-Id=xxx&X-Emby-Client-Version=4.9.1.90&X-Emby-Token=xxx&X-Emby-Language=en-us&reqformat=json. Thanks Luke, but I think it gets a bit complicated since it's a Fire TV app that needs to be installed manually and then updated automatically when there is a new one. Adding the hyphen (-) to the sort title now shows the nested folders at the beginning. I'm happy with this solution. Thanks to support.1 point

@juanv44We have fixed the issue. Reference: Fix #1748: Fix pixelization by loading images at correct image scale1 point

@juanv44I see the issue here. There is a piece of the logic not passing along the information about the image size change from one part to another. It affects how the images are loaded. We can fix this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.1 point

Jep tv's have low powered cpu/gpu as they want to save on production cost. And most of then don't play all codec due to license cost.1 point

I know it's suboptimal when you have a working TV but i can recommend getting a separate Android box like the Nvidia Shield. Should always play DV and so on without problems.1 point

Also what custom css are you using?1 point

@chrisrobbins1970The next time you have this happen can you check for the m3u8 it created? You will need to do this as the Roku is playing so it doesn't delete it. The m3u8 will show how the subtitles were packaged and sent. The ffmpeg log shows the Roku requested them. But like @Lukementioned the Roku should fetch these from the URL in the m3u8 manifest. If you can provide that we can for sure see what is happening. Thanks.1 point

I deleted the library.db and re-created the libraries on emby server I also don't have many extras1 point
-
Your DB seems massive to me, I don't even think it should end up being that large. My DB is only 559 MB with twice as many movies, 3x as many episodes, and 20k songs. What do you mean by recreated it? What did you do?1 point
-
With those numbers no. As I have about 7000+ movies and over 50,000 episodes and my library.db is only about 485MB.1 point
-
Hi. We can take a look at it. Thanks. @speechleswe can afford to allow larger images when the size is set to large because so few of them will be on-screen.1 point

Deleting the library, running a library scan and metadata refresh *without* the library present, and then re-adding the library got whatever wasn't reading correctly to scan in.1 point

I have a very long process to rename and sort the media for now. Then add to home videos library. As I have a work around for now (force transcode), then this is not that much of a priority as it only affects the one TV (albeit the main TV). Once I complete this work, I will try and get that logging stuff on the app. I suspect it will be a bit tricky.1 point

I can't believe it... ipv6 was the problem. I don't understand why it suddenly started acting up. It has been on for awhile. So, I didn't even think to check that. Thanks for that... you saved me from all that mess I was about to put myself through. The simplest things we miss. Cheers1 point

Thanks... I'll try that too. I believe that is enabled in both.1 point

Ah, I see. That makes sense... I guess I was a bit distracted because the first two points are separate settings: As in: "EnableLiveTvManagement": false, "EnableLiveTvAccess": true, When using "/Features" API point, it reveals these: $ curl -X GET -H "X-Emby-Token: API" "http://localhost:8096/emby/Features" [{"Name":"Email","Id":"notifications.emailnotifications","FeatureType":"User"},{"Name":"Notifications","Id":"notifications","FeatureType":"User"},{"Name":"Webhooks","Id":"notifications.webhooknotifications","FeatureType":"User"}] Disabling this works however: (but I don't think "notifications.webhooknotifications" and "notifications.emailnotifications" to be needed) "RestrictedFeatures": ["notifications", "notifications.webhooknotifications", "notifications.emailnotifications"], Thanks for the pointer!1 point

I have done more testing - and the CCwGTV devices all play portrait fine also. So as of right now, I am going to continue renaming and uploading the home video's in the hope that a fix for the TCL built in GoogleTV works in the future. I am happy to test anything if you want me to assist. I also think I have some family members with Sony TV's that also have the GoogleTV built in and they can test also.1 point

Mine actually started working at some point, maybe it was when the Android client was updated more recently. I'm still running 4.8 server. One strange quirk I've noticed at least on one tablet (older version of Android) is that you have to have the tablet screen on/active and the emby app open on the playback control page for it to automatically skip. If the screen isn't on it doesn't skip. But I also have some issues with there being a lot of lag sometimes when the skip does occur and the playback freezes and hangs. Usually I have to close and restart playback. It may be on certain files which are transcoding that it gets stuck but not completely sure. This is also on the older tablet. Just some data points.1 point
-
just my two cents, i think it should follow the sort order. So if you want to see the newest media in your library, it should use the min value else if you want to see the oldest movies in your library, it should use the max value. I would just treat the group as a single movie, but like you said, choose the min or max value based on the sort order. That would be ideal. As it is now, it's impossible to see what the new movies are in your library and personally, it's probably the most used aspect of Emby for deciding what to watch. I do appreciate you taking the time to run down the problem and finding out what was going on. thank you!1 point
-
Great, so you don’t need the full logs then? For me it only happens with Live TV, movies and TV are fine.1 point

As someone who is currently looking to move from Plex and thinking about purchasing an Emby lifetime plan, this is the only feature I'll greatly miss from the move. Being able to check a director or actor filmography list (with posters) is much needed. We all have this nerve-racking urge to know in which film we saw that one actor. Crazy to think people are asking for this feature for 7 years now!1 point

I'd like to go back to the pre-4.8 folder display mode, which can be sorted by time or other options1 point

I've been running side tests using ffmpeg, a home http server, and a generic instance of AVPlayer on tvOS 26 so I could bypass the restrictions currently imposed by Emby. I did all that so I could see & document what it would take to get HEVC & HDR / DV working on AVPlayer on tvOS 26. I'm sure Emby has it's own HLS manifest builder which is more capable than ffmpeg. That may or may not need to be adapted to accommodate HDR/DV playback on tvOS26. So to sum up my findings: HEVC on AVPlayer needs: -tag:v hvc1 & -hls_segment_type fmp4 (& strict -unofficial if Dolby Vision metadata is present) This will play all HEVC videos and by default tvOS 26 AVPlayer will tone map any HDR/DV to SDR HDR/DV on AVPlayer needs: CODECS, SUPPLEMENTAL-CODECS, VIDEO-RANGE, FRAME-RATE (don't know if Emby already adds all those to the manifest) https://developer.apple.com/documentation/http-live-streaming/hls-authoring-specification-for-apple-devices-appendixes Without this, AVPlayer (at least on tvOS 26) will tone map any non-SDR content to SDR. With the correct manifest: AVPlayer switches the TV to HDR / DV mode and videos play as expected. You and the team probably know most if not all of this already. I just thought I'd document my findings if case you (or anyone coming here via Google) finds any of this helpful one day. Thanks again for taking the time to read all this. Looking forward to seeing Emby do native HDR on the Apple TV1 point

I understand what @GrimReaper has said. But Imo tvnext should be more like core functionality, SmartViews should be very interesting but more nice to have. From my pov I have learned to work around Emby “as it is”.1 point

Especially when @ebrsays it's "not yet ready", but TVNext has been ready for at least a year. I just don't understand why he and @Lukehave such an aversion to Live TV.1 point

Author and File Format options are basic necessities for just any eBook collection! Series would follow pretty closely for anyone who collects books in a Series (which is very common). I'm really confused as to how the Book Library has existed as an option for as long as it has without even an Author option, or functional Metadata Downloaders. I tried migrating to Emby from PLEX many many years ago because I wanted my eBook accessible remotely on the same Media Server as my Movies and TV Shows, but I decided not to stick with it because it wasn't very functional. I transitioned to eBook reading in 2010 and haven't looked back, but have always been disappointed with eBooks exclusion from media center/managers. Books are the OG Media! Thanks to whomever is finally getting some work done on this project. I've reinstalled Emby from scratch and am playing with it again, but the Metadata system still needs some very simple things addressed. So I'm not all in yet.1 point
