Hi all. As a heads up, this will be resolved in the next build of the beta. As soon as that's done, it will be posted here as well.6 points

Far too many things on the developer's plates. Let this AI crap die as far too many users will attempt to use it on their potato servers that absolutely can not handle the workload, and then they will complain to high heaven that the Emby dev team is doing a horrible job of supporting said plugin. We've seen it time and time again where users who know nothing about their hardware or playback requirements complain and argue with us experts when we inform them that they are the problem not Emby. And instead of understanding they double down and embrace their ignorance and get supported by similar users who are completely clueless. We get angry, we block users, and mods have to intervene to delete threads and warn users. If you're going to do something like this, make it perfectly clear that you will not support users unless they have the bare minimum of hardware/software requirements. And even then, users will still complain that you're being discriminatory to those who can't afford fancy video cards with tensor cores, and will demand that figure out a method of use their potato hardware "or else". Already seeing this with people requesting realtime AI subtitles and stating that using CPU is too slow...DUH.3 points

That's wonderful! Would you mind explaining the changes you guys decided to make to fix this?3 points

There is other projects who do exactly that, and only that. Very well developed with hundreds of contributors and popular among users: https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism I have to say that i am using emby for video, and for video only. I see that there is the drive to make this a universal solution for everything (audio, foto, games, books), but in order to do that successfully you would have to be better than all those other particular projects that already do that. This is a lot of development time that would be going into something that already exists. And from the perspective that there is only a handful people working on emby i have to give a thumb down out of my own interest.2 points

This is broken! If I click on the actor image placeholder I get an image from the nfo file. What is the use of having all the metadata reader selectors and being able to arrange them in order of preference if they are not honored during an import.2 points

Having collections gets very confusing for some of my users because if they have their library set to sort by "date added" in order to show the newest movies first, they will not see some of the latest movies because they were added to an existing collection. Sorting by "date added" just sorts by the date the collection was created. Would it be possible to sort collections by "Date of last addition" or something similar? I like the collections feature, but when the newest movies "disappear" into a collection down the list somewhere it makes it confusing for many users.1 point

In tweaking my server a bit over the last few days, and in reading and replying to some posts here, a couple of (what seem to me) rather simple security enhancements came to mind. 1. Option to require password. This could be both a global or individual user setting. It doesn't have to change the behavior of anything else. Actually... I couldn't believe this wasn't there somewhere. Am I missing it? Couldn't a user just delete their own password and open a security hole? 2. Global option hide profile pictures/login. Right now, the only way to do this is per user, which is fine for someone like me that only has 5 It doesn't seem like these would be difficult changes unless I'm missing something.1 point

So since the update on the AirPods Pro’s recieving Spatial Audio, which supports Dobly Atmos, I decided to see if it worked with the Dolby atmos movies that I have in my Emby server, but found that it didnt work. Like I know that it works on my device as it works with the Disney+ app, but not on Emby? Will there be support for this in the future?1 point

I wonder if Backblaze is causing a slowdown. I can see it's running a massive backup. I'll pause it overnight and see if it resolves things.1 point

Actions speak louder than words, and at this stage, the only assumption you could make is that the emby development team don't really care about security. There are multiple security issues and feature requests dating back several years, none of which have been addressed. After an actual security breach last year, which had been raised as an issue on this forum years before that, you would have thought they might have learned a lesson? ALL security issues/requests should be addressed before any new features are added to emby. Security should be the number 1 priority, not some after thought years later.1 point

I haven't noticed any slowness. There are different views/layouts from forums home - Table, Grid and Fluid. Fluid has been slow for over a year.1 point

Ok I figured it out. After removing one of the shows and adding it back it was added back weird. After looking at the structure of the TV show I could see that it was not following the naming standard for Emby. I changed the naming for the seasons to S01,S02,S03.... ect and after this the theme music started to work. So if anyone else has this issue double check the season naming that you have set up.1 point

I do not like or want anything AI in my media management. It is simply because AI is too flawed and allowing AI any access at all is potentially an extreme hazard. There is just too much "A" and not near enough "I" in "AI." All my interactions with anything AI have been disappointing at best. Humans are better. Maybe not a lot better but still better.1 point

I have a resolution. The problem was not to do with the database file being locked but in fact my Emby port assignment conflicting with another piece of software that uses the same port (WireGuard, in my case). I changed Emby’s port to a different number and ever since then I’ve had no reoccurrence of the problem. I hope this helps anyone else who’s had a similar issue to mine.1 point

Hi, Im on the latest Windows server beta and the latest Emby app for iPhone. I am browsing and correcting my library, and every time I enter a movies to update art or fix a match, I have to start at the to of my library again. I know I can click on the letter on the side to speed things up, but it would be helpful if when we enter a library item and back out again it would remember the last position. It will remember if no change made. Thank you.1 point

I have found that the vast majority of apps I frequently use already support dark mode between iPhone/iPad/Mac and can match the system's automatic switching mode. So I hope Emby, as a software I often use, can support automatic switching between dark and light modes; If automatic switching mode is set, Dark/light mode will be used by default, and other modes will not be available. For users who wish to use automatic switching mode and single theme mode, they can each choose their favorite theme mode. The above content comes from translation software, I hope it can clearly express my suggestions.1 point

Devs, thank you for maintaining the documentation and distros. I am a long time Emby user. Recently, I moved my home server from a Linux VM with no GPU hardware acceleration on a VMWare ESX host to a docker container hosted on an LXC hosted in a Proxmox host. I was able to use the documentation to prepare my new Emby server in docker ( I use Portainer as a gui front end for docker). It took a little fiddling to get the docker compose setup. the directory binding in docker is different but not unlike what i was already doing with NFS shares on my old linux emby server. using the documentation, i was also able to pull my last full backup and restore it to the new docker Emby server. I repointed my Nginx proxy manager to the new Emby server and had minimal downtime. I had some fiddling and dev work to get my Nvidia 3080TI running vGPU with intel IOMMU sharing the device from the host to the LXC, and then to the Emby server docker container. this isn't well documented anywhere really well. most people will just raw pass it. I was on a mission and had to pull in different instructions from a few different sources and work with my local ollama AI server to finally get a working config. I don't have to hardware transcode often, but it is so nice to be able to do so easily. I have been running testing for the last 5 days or so and am very happy with the results.1 point

Only through tailscale. For now i have to turn it off when running my VPN and switch between the two. It's doable but not streamline like before. I have a century link modem/router connected to my google mesh. I had port forward set up. That doesnt seem to work. Maybe it has something to do with double nat but before this wasn't an issue. I cant seem to figure out bridge mode without messing up google mesh so im not touching that route. I have disabled the wifi on the century link router.1 point

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If the default setting is to show the list, then the vast majority will just leave it, and nothing changes. The fact that 10 or 15% might disable the list does not mean their servers would then be running in some degraded state. The experience would be identical to the default, just without the list. Soooo... top 2% ? I'm guessing. Please don't make me do math. If you were ranked the 200th best pro tennis player in the world, you would tell people at the bar, and they would rightly be impressed, even though they never heard of you and likely wouldn't remember your name. If you can't bring yourselves to allow us to hide the list, then at least give us some control over how it's constructed. Of course that's even less likely to happen, because it's obviously more work than just hiding the list, but either way you would burnish your reputation as a company that listens to its customers.1 point

I think logs being anonymized now plays a part in why this hasn't been exploited on a larger scale. Someone made a post in the Jellyfin subreddit and one of their team members actually responded. Jellyfin uses some sort of UUIDs for ItemIds, not an incremental number, so its inherently less vulnerable as the UUID acts as a "password" in a sense, however their images endpoint also requires no auth still. They supposedly have a solution to resolve this within the next major version. If Emby hasnt addressed this by then, then CVE should be reported.1 point

I would also like to see Xtream API support. I'm not sure how all of this works but I know that the IPTV players I use with Xtream are able to provide pretty decent EPG info...without having to provide an EPG URL or file. When I use players such as Emby that only takes m3u and look for a separate EPG URL or file the quality is very poor.1 point

EmbyWatch - A brilliant app built by a community user! One of the best things about the Emby community is the creativity that comes from it. Every so often, one of our users takes their love for media servers to the next level and builds something that makes life easier for the rest of us. Today, we’re excited to share EmbyWatch, a brand-new Android app developed by community member @asgard25It is an an incredible example of what happens when passion and innovation meet. A User-Built Tool, Made for Admins What makes this story special is that EmbyWatch wasn’t created by a company or a professional app studio. It was created by one of YOU! — just someone who wanted to make managing a server more intuitive and accessible from anywhere. Want to be even more impressed? This is only the second Android app that asgard25 has developed! EmbyWatch is designed to help server admins and advanced users keep track of what’s happening on their Emby setup in real time. It’s not about playback or browsing media, it’s about giving you the tools to monitor, manage, and control your server, all from your phone. Powerful Features at a Glance EmbyWatch brings a surprising amount of functionality for such a young app. Here’s what it can do: Real-time monitoring: See who’s watching what, where they’re streaming from, and how much bandwidth they’re using — all live. User management: View your users, check activity history, and even send messages directly to connected users. Device overview: Identify every connected client, from smart TVs to mobile apps, with connection times and device info. Library insights: Quickly review all your media libraries with detailed counts and metadata. Task control: Run or schedule maintenance tasks like library scans and metadata updates remotely. Plugin visibility: See your installed plugins and available updates. Logs and server details: Access logs, CPU load, uptime, and more — wherever you are. Notifications and widgets: Stay informed with live alerts and optional Android widgets for quick monitoring. For anyone managing a shared server, EmbyWatch feels like having a live dashboard in your pocket. A True Example of Community Ingenuity We love seeing users like asgard25 take their experience with Emby and turn it into something that benefits everyone. EmbyWatch really is a reflection of how open and flexible the Emby ecosystem can be when people put their ideas into action. This project shows exactly what makes our community special, a shared passion for improving and creating! So whether you’re managing your own home setup or running a multi-user server, EmbyWatch offers a simple, powerful way to stay connected to your system. Huge thanks to asgard25 for sharing EmbyWatch with the community and for showing what’s possible when creativity meets passion. We’re proud to see our users building tools like this that make Emby not just a media server, but a thriving ecosystem shaped by its fans. If you’re an admin or an advanced user, check out EmbyWatch on Google Play and see how it can make managing your server easier than ever. We can’t wait to see what asgard25 — and others in our amazing community — build next. View the full article1 point

It seemed like I needed to have a better file structure, along with some of the baked in metadata on the source files. The new file structure needed to be (based on this example), -Audio books -- J.K. Rowling -- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- Chapter 1 Instead of --J.K. Rowling -- Harry Potter read by Stephen Fry -- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- Chapter 1 It seems like the server was having some difficulty understanding the file structure Removing the metadata and then maintaining the new structure seems to have resolved the problem.1 point

So, I figured it out. I looked through the log for giggles and once I saw transcoding, it dawned on me. My boot SSD was almost full. I never changed the transcode temp folder. Hooked up an external drive as just the temp folder, went off wifi, and my cellular sucks at my house and could scrub through a UHD BR with no delay and no starting and stopping anymore.1 point

Actually it was via a PM to the Admins following the security incident - to be fair, some of the oustanding items have now been completed in 4.8+ (those in Green below) - but the password one has sadly not been implemented... @Luke @ebr @softworkz -- "Hi All, So I've been keeping a track of the proposed security changes post the security issue in May (for my my own security audit) and thought I'd share it. Would it be worth providing an update to the security incident thread/blog as you guys have made some great progress with the 'security' side of things. Maybe you want to finish the Authorisation overhall with all the Clients before pushing something out on the Blog ? I also just wanted to say that I appreciate the security enhancements, my trust in the product is now a lot better pre-incident, and even though my service sits behind multiple external perimeter defenses, it's still nice to have a security conscious core product. Regards." Action Detail Status Availability Brute Force Lockout Will now add fixed delay to response if incorrect password has been entered 10+ times. Complete Beta 4.8+ Brute Force Lockout Notification Separate Notification type added if the above is activated. Complete Beta 4.8+ Proxy Headers Proxy headers may be turned on/off or if deemed to be remote (ie non RFC1918 addresses) Complete Beta 4.8+ Plugin Security Enhancements made to Plugin security. Complete Beta 4.8+ User Admin Improvements in viewing 'users' as a table to see their Admin status, last login etc. Pin outstanding but optional anyway. Complete Beta 4.8+ Local vs Remote Access Concept has been replaced with local device token passed Authentication. Complete Beta 4.8+ Local vs Remote Access Server side is complete, and clients are being updated allowing multi-users with token based passwords to be saved on the device. Web, Roku and Android have been updated thus far (as of 8th Oct 2023) Complete Beta 4.8+ PIN Access Not directly related to the incident, but due the above allowing priviledged accounts to be 'saved' with a valid token on any device, this allows a 2nd layer of Access control for those already logged into the device. It is not a MFA mechanism. Complete Beta 4.8+ Password strength/entropy Still no password strength check - allow a weak password, but get user acknowledgement that is is unsuitable for remote usage ? Outstanding tbc User/Group Admin Further improvements to add Library Access to the users Admin table - or show in the Library views. Ie a table showing which users have access to which libraries on a single page. Feature Request tbc Cipher Hygeine Update Remove outdated ciphers from .NET In progress ? tbc Unauthorised Image access. Images can still be accessed remotely if the URL is known. For metadata, probably not an issue, but for personal photo libraries, then this is a PII data issue - and should be resolved asap. Security Bug tbc1 point

I don't know about you guys, but I find it very helpful to know where a particular series was broadcast (by region is even better) AND what network is broadcast (primarily) on. There's been an "technical bug" in Emby since as far back as I can remember, where TV Series only have fields for "Studio", which translates to "Network" on the navigation bar. I mentioned this in a longer post about 18 months ago. Especially with Streaming Networks, it's worth dividing these two things up for both TV Series and Movies. I know this split might cause some havok for some people's libraries, though I think a simple addon that moves "Studios" to ACTUALLY "Studios" for TV Series should be something that's rather easy to code upon release. I suspect moving the fields around in the UI is probably the biggest headache. Could we take a look at this?1 point

If you only show the title and year, the next release of the Roku app should do this for you. If you show more fields, the title will be limited.1 point
