Built in Push Notifications through the app and not 3rd party applications? Is that a foreseen addition or what? Right now I added push bullet and well you have to download the app to just get the notifications. Seems counterproductive honestly at least in my eyes? I'd like to see if maybe the android app could get native notifications, I know Roku would be probably difficult and PC would be easy. Xbox probably the same but may be annoying in the sense while viewing or playing games. At least with the Android (iOS too I'm assuming) we could be notified right from our phones and be like "sweet" turning on Emby and watching a movie now.3 points

You don't want to know it - but in case, here's an AI explanation for the weird star (like in Schauspieler*in): German has grammatical gender (Genus) built into nouns and endings, which is separate from a person’s sex or gender (Sexus). For example, das Mädchen (“the girl”) is grammatically neuter—proof that Genus ≠ Sexus. Because of this system, German traditionally uses a generic masculine plural (e.g., Studenten) to mean “students” in general. Supporters say that’s fine because the masculine here is a grammatical class (Genus), not a claim about anyone’s sex (Sexus). Critics argue that, whatever the grammar says, many readers mentally picture mostly men when they see the generic masculine. To counter that effect, some writers use inclusive forms that visibly signal women and non-binary people, for example: Student*innen (“students”) — the gender star puts an asterisk before the feminine ending to say “all genders.” When spoken, people add a tiny pause (a glottal stop). Variants: Student:innen, Student_innen, or gender-neutral rewordings like Studierende (“those who are studying”). Why it’s controversial: Pro: Makes inclusion explicit; avoids the perceived male-default reading. Con: Feels clunky to some, can be harder to read aloud or for screen readers, and isn’t part of traditional spelling rules. Bottom line for an American: The gender star is a writing convention, not a claim that Genus = Sexus. It’s a workaround to bridge the gap between German grammar and how people interpret references to mixed-gender groups—similar to how English leans on neutral terms or singular they. Is it official? - No! Germany’s Council for German Orthography (the body that maintains official spelling for schools/administration) says special characters like *, : or _ are not part of official orthography. Its 2023 note and the 2024 rulebook update keep them outside the core rules (though it observes how usage evolves). rechtschreibrat.com+1 Some institutions (e.g., universities or city offices) introduced the use the star in their own style guides. Others explicitly avoid it. University of Göttingen Several states restricted it in government or schools—for example Bavaria (Mar 19, 2024) and Hesse (Mar 2024) in official admin language; Saxony marks star/colon/underscore as incorrect in school writing. Bitte liebes EMBY Team, bleibe politisch neutral. Please stay neutral.2 points

I did all this as you suggested: Remove folder from library, run full Scan Media, put the folder back again with S01E01 and S02E01 (were properly identified), then renamed files to S01E01-E20 and S02E01-E05, refreshed metadata. Change Order to DVD Order, Refreshed again Metadata and now all metadata is downloaded properly: So I assume something was blocked on the DB for this show preventing to refresh properly the metadata. Thanks a lot ! (To everybody who tried to help ;))2 points

You're right, it looks like IPTVboss is auto converting the new tag to a live tag, which is causing my issue here. Obviously I think emby should have an option to recognize the live tag in addition to the new tag, but I'll take it up with the IPTVboss dev for now to see how to stop that behavior.2 points

Please make it possible to create the backup as compressed archive, like *.tgz or *.zip. This makes is much easier to copy the backup to other places, without the need to copy hundred of files.1 point

Hi Emby Team, I know there are already many threads dealing with subtitle issues... i just have a simple question... why does the "LG Emby App" encode the video when selecting PGS Subs while "LG Plex App" does direct play on the same file an the some pgs subs selected? imho this cannot be an LG Prob. Hello, As server owner, I'd like to be notified when a user has playback issues (i.e, the stream is buffering or the content/codec isn't compatible with their device). This way I can dive into looking at why the stream is not flawless and be able to resolve it and provide a better user experience. Thank you.1 point

This has been a reported issue/request since... 2018. Yes, there are some possible inconsistencies in available subtitles between series episodes, but to have a default behavior that playing a subsequent episode tries to use the same subtitle settings in effect when the previous episode ended doesn't seem an unreasonable nor difficult to implement request.1 point

@Lukenever mind it's fixed. Must have corrected itself after I rebooted the tv. Thank you very much.1 point

@quickmicFYI, that setting is one of the options available in the Trakt plugin. FYI, I think the issue may have been a one off due to an Emby database cleanup (mass removal/addition of items from the database as evident in the log I posted). It may not have actually had anything to do with the Trakt/Emby sync. That was just a symptom of the cleanup. That also seems to have lead to a lot of items being purged from my Movies playlist when Emby removed them from the database. Why the cleanup occurred in Emby, I have no idea. Although I was able to reproduce the issue multiple times last weekend. I have been unable to do so since. Sorry if I wasted your time chasing down a non-issue. I suspect it may actually have been tied to the playlist change which you have patched in v12.3.3.1 point

+1. I would like to be able to either automatically or manually notify my users of new shows, episodes, movies, streams or even playlists / collections. Being able to also manually send them would be super useful and would add more much functionality to the current collections / playlist because it would open up the use of seasonal playlists (halloween, christmas, etc), specific genres or just as a method to reach out to the users without needing third party apps like whatsapp, signal, discord etc. Having that inside Emby would keep that type of communication within Emby as well make it much more self sustaining.1 point

Danke dir.

@DarkStar1977actually that shouldn't be necessary. I think the answer is going to be that he's got two of the same series merged together, and they each have different images. So this can be resolved by making sure both series have the same poster.1 point

Hi, sorry for jumping in. What GrimReaper says it's true, unless you have another configuration in "Subtitles": If you have configured forced subtitles like me in the 2nd field, and the video you're playing next has forced subtitles this configuration will prevail upon your previous chapter manual adjustments. And for some reason I don't understand this happens as well with your audio selection. You can see this behaviour in the video below where I changed language to Japanese in one episode, subtitles to Spanish (Non-Forced) and when jumping next one, the configuration is overrided to default Audio in Spanish and subtitles to forced ones: Grabación de pantalla 2025-09-21 a las 5.18.50.mp41 point

Hey! Thanks for the fast response! OK, I think I had one of those moments where I realize I'm becoming my parents. (Ever have one of those?) I no longer have an issue with refreshing my library as is now doing exactly what I expected it to do: when I move files around on the NAS, Emby promptly updates. So, let me return to my manual ID'ing and I may not need any more add'l help! Thx!1 point

I have the same problem on Chromebook. It seems to be files with AC3 that turns into high speed playback? The video codec doesn't seem to matter. When I reencoded the audio to AAC they went back to normal speed. The same files used to play fine before, something happened in an update this year.1 point

While not wanting to the hijack the discussion about Classical Music tabs, etc. Perhaps a wider consideration is how Artists are generally classified in Emby. Currently they are just "Artist" and there is no way to determine the type of entity beyond that, unless they are custom tagged within Emby into required categories. However, MusicBrainz has an Artist Properties Type classification that (I think) can be extracted and added into Emby using the MusicBrainz API. I haven't tried yet for myself but will experiment with it when I get a chance... https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Artist As my music library is non-classical, the Types I'm interested in are: Person, Group and Other. However there is also Orchestra listed. Therefore embedded tags may not be required to make/import an Orchestra category (if wanted) by getting the info from MusicBrainz. Perhaps there is potential here to move from a flat Artist structure by adding Artist Type somehow? I don't think all the Types could just be added to the top-level menu (unless filterable?) but perhaps Artist Type could be a possible filter on the Artists main page, or something like that??? Person and Group may also have wider appeal for all genres of music? Thanks for considering.1 point

Absolutely, the folder structure is for my sanity and for recreating collections within emby/plex should the need ever arise. As both rightly disconnect collections from the filesystems. I also create the folder structure because I have scripting to export all the art to that folder from plex currently, and likely emby if it's not being exported for me already. So I have a backup. thanks for the reply.1 point

Sorry quickmic, I don't have it. I'll try to briefly explain. I had an issue with Kodi and E4K not caching images and loading very slow. I'm not sure when or why this started happening. I thought it might be a new beta version of Emby that caused this. So in the process of troubleshooting, I tried upgrading E4K to version 12.3.2 When doing so, E4K started a DB reset. Once Kodi rebooted, E4K started to populate the DB. It got about 70-80% and rebooted (or crashed). once restarted, it began to repopulate the DB, again crasing and rebooting. I ended up starting fresh with a new Kodi 21.2 stable install, and restore from backup. All is good with E4K 12.1.2 Next week I'll give it another go with 12.3.2 and if there is any issues, I'll get you a log. Thanks for all your hard work.1 point

Actually it was via a PM to the Admins following the security incident - to be fair, some of the oustanding items have now been completed in 4.8+ (those in Green below) - but the password one has sadly not been implemented... @Luke @ebr @softworkz -- "Hi All, So I've been keeping a track of the proposed security changes post the security issue in May (for my my own security audit) and thought I'd share it. Would it be worth providing an update to the security incident thread/blog as you guys have made some great progress with the 'security' side of things. Maybe you want to finish the Authorisation overhall with all the Clients before pushing something out on the Blog ? I also just wanted to say that I appreciate the security enhancements, my trust in the product is now a lot better pre-incident, and even though my service sits behind multiple external perimeter defenses, it's still nice to have a security conscious core product. Without server log, it's practically mpossible to figure out what's happening and what calls have been made. What I'd suggest is to start afresh: remove that show from your TV shows root, run Scan media library to clear the db, rename those episodes to plain S01E01 and S02E01 (you can rename them later), reimport the show, see where you stand and if all seriea/season/episode metadata downloaded. Before all that, in your library settings, just untick/tick again all enabled meta-providers for series/season/episode.1 point

That's a good catch, looks like this is a symptom of the provider. I just tried to reproduce this again and everything seems fine with the bare linux install, so their API must be returning different content for ffprobe vs ffmpeg for this to be an issue. I assume it's probably load balancing requests against 2 different content libraries. This may also explain why pausing for an extended period of time results in playback terminating. Looks like I might need to develop my own caching mechanism for Emby to request this media from so that ffprobe and ffmpeg are guaranteed to get the same result. It would be awesome if Emby would start to download .strm media to a local cache and call ffprobe and ffmpeg against that cache. Even more amazing if there was an option to store the cached download in the media library folder beside the .strm file for a configurable amount of time, or until a disk space threshold is met to keep the cache from growing too large.1 point

That's True. In last 1 Year, i have seen a lot of development, Emby's USP are now available for free and open source. If they still think they have time and they will get back to it later, it might be too late.1 point

Would be great if can limit the device per users. The simultaneous streams don't prevent to user to login on another device and it will consume the space for the devices limits on Emby Premiere.1 point
