  1. Ok so my request is to be able to search each library separate as it stands when you search it searches everything, and if like me you have 30k music tracks 10k books/comics 10k episodes and 10k+ movies, searching is slow so is it possible to have a search section for each library individually

  2. Just a heads up, I will be updating these. Will be the same buttons but with some minor tweaks

  3. Unless I'm being a bit blind (highly possible!), I'd love a way to hide a couple of the top green navigation items without hacking it in myself. For example, in Movies I don't want the 'Trailers' item to appear for any profile and for TV I don't need the 'Upcoming' nav link. Obviously not a major issue but thought it would be a nice thing to have, perhaps allowing them to be re-ordered like the home page items but again just a nice extra,

  4. So basically this. I have TV Shows, Movies, and Anime libraries. For anime; I'd prefer to set the default to Japanese with Subtitles. For movies, English and no subs unless forced. For TV Shows, the same. However, Emby only allows one overall setting this for this, for all libraries, instead of just one. I think it'd be a pretty nice little feature.

  5. it would be very nice, if there can be a possibility to get users the access to edit metadata and image so the user can manage a the libraries. I would like to use it as a "content manager"-user which is like a technical engineer caring about the media content and nothing else. btw. emby is very very nice, thanks for all of your work!

  6. How can I turn these bars off? They appear when playing an item. Its complexly useless and distracting.

  7. Hello, As server owner, I'd like to be notified when a user has playback issues (i.e, the stream is buffering or the content/codec isn't compatible with their device). This way I can dive into looking at why the stream is not flawless and be able to resolve it and provide a better user experience. Thank you.

  8. This was a feature request post. Whilst I do appreciate any suggestions and am always open to trying things, I think it may be best to stay on task with the request itself, if that's okay. Also I do actually keep images alongside my media, but I just thought I would make a feature request post based on my experience with this feature for many years using Plex. Like I said before, if you want to check with others in the community if they would like to have this feature, you are free to do so, the choice is yours. So, I was just making a suggestion, as the way I use things, I like everything in its place and not affected by scans unless I choose it to be. A placeholder action, such as the option to disable automatic trash emptying after every scan, has proven quite useful over the years of managing my media at home with Plex.

  9. Seriously, just thought i would share. It's an obvious no-no so no real problem needs to be fixed but I wanted to see what I could get away with when it comes to "My media" buttons/icons as I am updating the ones I made over 5 years ago. I decided to try an aPNG file and once I did that (of course the animation did not work in any device) the Windows app would not even load up. I reverted it and all is well of course. Anywhoooo.... don't do drugs, kids! Captain Obvious.... peace out!

  10. You have two choices : Downgrade to a version where the plugin is functional and install it manually with the DLL file. Accept that the service has been discontinued and you will not get a refund, at least if the plugin owner wants it. You can try to install the plugin with the newest Emby build, but you will probably have some issues with it.

  11. Thanks for your suggestion. The power saving are jet disabled and the laptop work without battery (only by cabled power cord)..... .....one things that I have noticed (maybe it is not influencing) is that there was a bottom right icon that indicate windows update and the necessary to pc restart after upddate....but the pc was running without any other issue and it goes on web without problem also with this icon. Anyway now I've istalled the update and restarted pc and of conseguence Emby server......let see what happen

  17. Looks like the stub installer might be trying to get a 3.0 server version from Github which doesn't exist anymore (just based on what the UI shows). Windows 7 is dead, move on. I know it was probably the best OS Microsoft has put out, but it's dead now. To my knowledge it already has issues with TLS which will just get worse since newer methods aren't/won't be implemented.

  18. That's a good catch, looks like this is a symptom of the provider. I just tried to reproduce this again and everything seems fine with the bare linux install, so their API must be returning different content for ffprobe vs ffmpeg for this to be an issue. I assume it's probably load balancing requests against 2 different content libraries. This may also explain why pausing for an extended period of time results in playback terminating. Looks like I might need to develop my own caching mechanism for Emby to request this media from so that ffprobe and ffmpeg are guaranteed to get the same result. It would be awesome if Emby would start to download .strm media to a local cache and call ffprobe and ffmpeg against that cache. Even more amazing if there was an option to store the cached download in the media library folder beside the .strm file for a configurable amount of time, or until a disk space threshold is met to keep the cache from growing too large.

  19. Posting here to say I'd also like to be able to allow some of my users to edit metadata, identify content, and edit images without giving them the ability manage the entire server. I recently had a security event partially caused by me giving admin rights to someone just so they could edit metadata.

  21. As it happens, I also have this issue on a server running on Windows 10 (Professional). Next time you can't connect to your server, can you check if the laptop can actually use the internet by going to a website or browsing YouTube or something like that? My server also has issues that when it's running for about a day, the network connection will become slower and slower with time until it's only a couple of bits per seconds. Usually just unplugging network cable (it's a wired server) works for me. Apparently this is something that is a known issue, especially with Intel network adapters running on Windows 10 machines that are on for longer times. A fix might be to disable all power saving settings for your network adapter. Here's a guide on how to disable those settings: https://support.windwardsoftware.com/support/solutions/articles/66000487622-disable-power-saving-and-power-options-in-windows. With any luck that should be enough. If it's not, let us know.

  22. Thanks gentlemen. Since the one place they cheaped out was the wired network (10/100, Wireless is a/b/g/n/ac) I suspect some internal limits were set to avoid saturating the network connection.

  23. Effectively anything that runs on bare metal (that means without any virtualisation like Docker, VMWare etc) should experience a significant performance boost. Running Emby or anything for that matter in a virtualised environment is basically the same as running two operation systems inside of each other. People are fond of systems like Docker because it's "fire and forget" but get mad when they accidentally delete their Docker images and lose their data. Personally I prefer to run any longterm services directly from within the OS. I have a Windows 10 server (basically a repurposed laptop) which runs Emby on it just fine and would run significantly slower if I were to use Docker or any such system. You're right but I couldn't contain myself.

  24. +1 I remember this in like 2014/2016 when streaming platforms started becoming mainstream. Spotify, Youtube and all the others used to have this "placeholder gif" to indicate which item was playing at the time. This used to be in playlists so users could quickly identify the current item. Nowadays we've moved away from animations and use colour and expressive design to highlight what's active and what not. It's almost as if this is a very old implementation that just happened to sneak into the beta because it's almost archaic nowadays.

  25. I'm also interested in a feature like this. It's annoying that, when searching for a specific movie a whole bunch of similarly named episodes, books of streams pop up. UX would be beneficial here though, starting a search from the library "Movies" should in my opinion also search the library "Movies". The same would go for other libraries of course. When is user is searching by Library there should also be a "can't find what you're looking for, search everything"-type of message which in turn redirects the user back to the regular search.

  26. JA!

  31. I would assume it would still do as I said and not hold its place on the server, and when the new scan occurs, it will then think it is something new and add it to the latest media on the server. In doing so, it will not go back to where it was on the server. I'm sure if you have seen the way it works on Plex, you would definitely understand me a little better. So having a setting such as this would most definitely benefit and just be an additional option for us in the Emby community to decide whether we want to use it or not instead of having to disable RTM and scheduled scans, as you suggested, as most like to leave those settings on. Of course, at the end of the day, it is up to you in the Emby team to decide whether this is worthy of creating, but hey, I would say don't brush it off too quickly and feel free to ask the Emby community what they think. I am happy for everyone to speak up and let us know what they would like that's why being a part of a community such as this makes it so special, letting everyone voice their opinions and thoughts.

  32. Confirming playback paused screensaver works too on the Emby for Android App on the NVIDIA Shield. This is good news, but also it is an issue in itself, as multiple versions on the same app store is quite confusing for some. For people like me, not even aware of it, would not even know the feature exists, so maybe it would be best to update the Android TV app in the nicest way possible, I mean, haha. Little side question I noticed the backdrops on the screensaver don't fully cover the screen's width and or height and have tiny black bars on the edges. Is this normal, and if not planned to be adjusted? Just a nit pick for me !

  36. OK I see what you mean. I guess currently the only way to truly separate it would be to move it out of the recording library after the recording has completed. But obviously that is cumbersome. We should probably add a sports recording folder option under there.

  38. I would also like to join in the request... Emby Server 4.9.1.31 for RS819 - Optimized searching (proposal) Searching on weaker machines is unnecessarily time-consuming because Emby searches everything on the server in the libraries by default. However, I never need everything. It would be great if there was an option to filter what I want to search for. Or even better, when I'm in a specific section of the library, it would ONLY search there, i.e., in Movies (search only for movies), in the TV Live section (search only for TV/radio channels).

  42. In summary, it's a h264 4K/60fps video (requiring the highest h264 level 52) - a lot of hardware does not support this (incl yours, it only supports level 51 (4K/30fps), most 4K at 60fps will use h265/hevc - the majority of hardware will support this without issues.

  45. Hi Emby team, I paid for Lifetime Emby Premiere because I believed Emby would keep up. After years on Emby and now running a Mac mini (Apple Silicon), I’m honestly frustrated and disappointed — especially after spending just two days testing Jellyfin side-by-side. This isn’t a rage post. It’s a reality check from a paying customer who feels left behind on macOS. 1) Hardware acceleration on macOS isn’t where it should be in 2025 On Emby (4.8.11.0), only H.264 hardware acceleration consistently engages for me. HEVC often falls back to software and hammers the CPU. Meanwhile, Jellyfin on the same machine uses Apple’s VideoToolbox reliably and — this was the gut punch — can hardware-accelerate HDR→SDR tone-mapping and even remap Dolby Vision Profile 5 to correct SDR colors on my library. A free competitor doing this while a paid product struggles is hard to swallow. It’s been years since Apple Silicon launched. We’re still missing dependable HEVC HWA and modern, accurate HDR/Dolby Vision handling in Emby on macOS. 2) “Convert Media” appears stuck on software on macOS Playback transcoding sometimes taps H.264 hardware, but server-side Convert Media does not (even when the target is H.264). My CPU pegs to 100% for long stretches. If there’s a way to offload these conversions with VideoToolbox on macOS, it’s either not implemented or not documented. Either way, that’s not acceptable for a paid, cross-platform server in 2025. 3) The ecosystem gap is widening (SSO, skip features, etc.) SSO/OIDC: This keeps coming up in Emby threads. Jellyfin already has a working plugin. I shouldn’t need workarounds for basic identity in a family server. Intro/credits/recap/ad skipping: Jellyfin’s plugins detect intros, credits, recaps, previews — even mid-roll ad segments — and can auto-skip from the server. In practice it’s more capable and less fiddly than what I get with Emby today. Music lyrics: Emby can display lyrics, yes, but the experience across clients is inconsistent and still feels behind competitors. 4) Why this matters now: the homelab shift from x86 to Apple Silicon I’m one of many who have moved from x86/NAS to Mac mini for home self-hosting: lower idle power, quiet 24/7 operation, and strong integrated media engines. This shift is real — a growing slice of homelabbers are standardizing on macOS for exactly these reasons. Competitors (Jellyfin, Plex) have clearly invested in macOS paths and moved faster to meet this demand. Emby hasn’t kept pace. If macOS isn’t treated as a first-class server platform, paying users like me are going to drift away — not because we want to, but because we can’t wait forever. 5) Communication with Mac users has been poor This is the part that stings: macOS requests sit for ages without a concrete answer. If there’s a roadmap, we don’t see it. If there’s progress, it isn’t communicated. What I expect as a paying customer Give us specifics — dates and deliverables — not “we’ll look into it.” macOS hardware acceleration parity: Reliable HEVC encode/decode, hardware HDR→SDR tone-mapping, and correct Dolby Vision (P5) handling on Apple Silicon. Hardware-accelerated Convert Media on macOS: Not just playback transcoding — library conversions must use VideoToolbox where possible. Official SSO/OIDC: First-party, documented, maintained. Server-side skip segments: An endorsed, end-to-end solution for intro/credits/recap (plus guidance for DVR ad detection), with consistent client behavior. A transparent macOS roadmap: Public, mac-specific media-pipeline/HWA plan with milestones. No more guessing. Treat macOS as first-class: Assign ownership to the mac media pipeline, publish known issues/workarounds, and close the loop with actual releases. I’m happy to provide logs, test builds, and real-world repro steps. But please don’t tell me to switch OS, “use software,” or wait indefinitely. I bought Lifetime because I wanted Emby to be my long-term home. Right now, on macOS, it isn’t. Please meet your macOS users where we are — with a plan, not silence.

  47. Had a user complain about the time taken to load the Web App on a slower mobile connection where it hadn't even loaded the Login page, even after 3-4 mins and he gave up after that. Figured I could compare both the timings of Plex & Emby Web Apps on a Gigabit Connection just to show the drastic amount of difference between what is probably the first thing most users see. Hosted Emby App (https://app.emby.media/) : Hosted Plex App (https://app.plex.tv/) : Self-hosted Emby Server Web UI: Self-hosted Plex Server Web UI: As you can see, the self-hosted server pages are close enough (even if there is plenty of room of improvement in the sheer number of requests fired and the DOM rendering), but the hosted apps are simply incomparable. There is nothing in the app that should required almost a 1000 requests to load and that too over a minute while the user simply sees a black page with the Emby logo.
