  1. You two go get a room, and leave us rest bitching about 5+ years of waiting for functional IP TV in emby. I think there has been enough bitching for the moment. Feel free to resume later, but for now I think, the message has been received. Let me share some gossip instead... You have no idea what an important role the WebStreams plugin is playing in the context of TVnext. Initially, it was meant to be integrated in TVnext, but hardly anybody was able to follow or visualize and imagine what I was talking about exactly, so for me, this had become... The Hardest Sell We've all learnt that there's nothing worse you can do than (actually or seemingly) taking away an existing feature in a new/updated version of a software application. And yet there was exactly one such kind of removal that was inevitable in the making of TVnext, which is - simply said - about dropped support for VOD streams as (fake) TV channels. The below conversation is fictional but roughly resembles the average of the kind of conversations that I had with many people at that time - not just internally, but also with external people and with some of our beta participants as well: Feature Removal? softworkz: "Please be prepared that VOD streams are not supported and not handled by TVnext. TVnext is about live TV streams and also supports non-TV live streams but not playback of static files that are just disguised as live streams" other: "What? You cannot do that! Users expect that to work, all other apps are doing it like that, you must not take this feature away!" softworkz: "Yes, I'm fully aware about how people are reacting when they feel that a feature is taken away from them. That's why I have the following great plan:" other: (already stopped listening) softworkz: "The plan is to replace the lacking VOD playback feature with something that is so much better and nicer and unique and even unprecedented, that nobody will ever be missing it." other: "No - people expect this to work like everywhere else." softworkz: "What do you mean - what exactly are people expecting? That the first episode of series XYZ, season 1 is on channel 1456153 and the second on 1456154 while the first episode of the next season is on channel 1623214?" other: "Yea, that's how it works everywhere." softworkz: "But we are Emby - our mission is to present media content in the best possible way, enriched with all kinds of metadata - who would want to access series content via non-memorable, 6- to 10-digit channel ids without any other metadata than a short description and a single image - if at all? We can present this in a much better way!" other: "Nah, people will freak out when they cannot do like that anymore, this won't be accepted" softworkz: "But how can that be? This is so clearly inferior to everything else. This doesn't even allow having saved playback positions, neither any kind of 'watched' indications etc. There are no series and season entries for grouping - in sum: you get almost none of the features that Emby provides normally." other: "All others are doing it the same way; people are used to it and expecting it to work like that." softworkz: "Why should people prefer Emby then, when it doesn't do better than any of the other apps? And I still can't imagine how anybody would be seriously using it that way: How do you navigate a TV guide when it has 10k, 20k, or even more channel rows? And all of those rows (unless actual live tv) having a single 'program' that is repeating 24/7? When you want to play an episode or film, you search for a TV channel of that name? And when you have 50k TV channels due to that, how can you find an actual TV channel when you get so many search hits? And how is channel management supposed to work? When you want to bring a certain channel from the end to the middle, or from the middle to the start or end? You hold down your finger on the mouse button for several minutes when drag-drop sorting? For every single channel that you want to move?" other: "Sure it's not ideal, but that's how it has always worked, and people want that!" softworkz: "Yes, but..." other: "No, this must continue working!" softworkz: "But the WebStreams concept is so cool - nobody else has that! I'm sure, people will love it. Anyway, TVnext cannot handle VOD - it's impossible unless we drop so many essential features that it's not even worth proceeding." other: "Hmm, well, err, but no...etc etc." softworkz: (sigh) WebStreams Plugin After all those discussions, I had realized that I couldn't get that idea sold as such. The sole promise of providing something better in the end wasn't sufficiently convincing. Yet, there wasn't an alternative to dropping VOD from live tv either. At the same time, this had grown and become a really hot topic, putting the project on the edge, even though it had been explicitly documented and discussed early that this split between live and vod streams will need to happen. The only way out that I had seen at this time was to turn the sole promise of "providing something so much better that nobody would ever complain about lacking VOD channels" into a reality - outside of TVnext, independent of TVnext and delivered even before TVnext. That's how the WebStreams plugin came to life. Some got convinced quickly, for others it still took a while, but as of now, I don't think that there's any remaining doubt that the WebStreams plugin is the way to go for handling VOD content in Emby - even though it's been a long way...

  2. It was ipv6 that was fixed; I have a letsencrypt posthook that makes a pkcs12 file openssl pkcs12 -password xxx -export -in fullchain.pem -inkey privkey.pem -out combined.pfx chmod 644 combined.pfx

  3. You'll have to add it twice with different content types. But in addition, you'll need to use the filtering to avoid having it import the movies as tv series and vice versa.

  4. Dune output is set to 4K, 8K is for future use, right now you can't get 8K 86'' TV in the EU due to power consumption issues. So, as you said it is likely the case that the dune will tell the apps not to passthrough TrueHD and DTS, that doesn't make sense but you can't do nothing about it

  5. While trying to find a decent preroll like the Netflix or Disney+ ones I discovered that Microsoft Office will let you convert slides into videos. Since Powerpoint has a lot of text and image animation options, I thought this would be an easy way for users to make customised prerolls for their servers. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this? and if there's any interest in powerpoint templates for things like different codecs where people can just enter the name of their server or something and generate their own prerolls?

  6. Could you allow users to customize the order of movies in collections instead of only having it by alphabetical or by release date? Example: I want to have a collection of Batman movies, both animated and motion pictures but want the motion pictures together followed by all the animated ones. With the current order options, this isn't possible. Thanks!

  8. Looks like I can get them via (for example): https://emby-tv.mydomain.tld/emby/Items?Recursive=true&Fields=Path%2CProviderIds&Path=%2Frecordings%2FEmby-TV-Recordings%2FAmerican Ninja Warrior (2009)&api_key=myapikey This gives me the providers ids for the series in one call. But, that presumes (say this is the first time recording a given series as it's new), that the metadata lookups are already done at post processing script time. We'll see!

  9. No difference there Luke, I will get the second server going later if I have time. Just in case for another point of test is there a way I can step back to the beta that fixed the double dates in the folder but not the file itself? That seems to be the only version I didn't get errors in my recordings on the beta.
    1 point
  10. Well, I fixed it, but still don't know why it happened. I did compile a new version of curl, but that didn't fix it. So I changed the script to run the command directly instead of from a variable. I had tried that before, but now it works. no idea why it didn't work before.

  11. If you update the files in-place, make sure the date modified timestamp changes. That's how the server determines the file has changed.

  12. Emby hasn't crashed on the latest version of ios26.

  13. Same, I don’t see any more crashing on the newest public beta when direct playing.

  14. Yes, I did that, both a normal scan and replacing the metadata. However, you've just given me an idea, as I've had a similar problem with an episode that Emby simply wouldn't update. I moved the episodes to a folder that Emby doesn't scan, then scanned them, moved the episodes back, and scanned them again. What can I say? Emby now recognizes the files and plays them. Thanks, Luke, for the food for thought. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

  15. Any update on supporting the new intel arc B580 gpus, I wasted 5 hours yesterday trying to get my new Intel Arc B580 working for hardware transcoding, only to discover it's not supported. The GPU is detected but hardware acceleration fails during VAAPI initialization. The Issue: Emby uses intel-media-driver 24.1.5, but Arc B-Series support wasn't added until 24.3.4+. Request: Please update to intel-media-driver 24.3.4+ in the next release to support these GPUs. This is frustrating because: Jellyfin already supports these GPUs perfectly and I specifically bought this for my Emby server. Is the emby server not being supported anymore?

  16. wow, thank you. Somehow i was to stupid finding this in the forum. So i am looking forward for 4.9. Beta-version 31 is out. I guess it will not take to long for the final release.

  17. Will be in the upcoming 4.9 server release. Until then, you can either: 1) Multi-select and select "Group Versions" in three-dot menu or 2) Use one of the community-made auto-Grouping plugins:

  18. @gillmacca01 - Thanks a lot for the log! It clearly shows that it is in fact waiting for those 10s while your browser is getting a response within less than 350ms. I'm pretty sure that the non-response is a kind of security measure. Probably very similar to what @archeconhas encountered: When the request doesn't appear to be "sane" (like from a browser or an app), the provider rejects it. This can happen through an error response or even a non-response. We'll have to analyze this, please give us a little time.

  21. Each item is getting hashed to make it unique in Emby and to keep the identitites of already imported items (also important for favorite, watched, playback position and other features). This also makes sure that metadata will stick and won't be re-retrieved, so future metadata refreshes will only cover the delta (new items).

  24. OK, then this sounds like a different issue. It's not the Chromecast app, it's the Android app and how it is publishing cast data during playback. @Lukebased on this post https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/140287-emby-does-not-expose-its-media-info-through-chromecast-protocol/#findComment-1469148 Varrioth is connected to a remote server and playing content on the Nvidia Shield. He is not casting using the Chromecast app, but I presume that the Nvidia/android app is broadcasting 'casting' data during playback and it is this data that might be incomplete. I'm not sure if being connected to a remote server is also causing an issue, but I doubt it if the data is being cast from the local Shield.

  25. I'm afraid to say that, but this is farther away than the impression that has been created. Once we have a new ffmpeg version, this will not immediately include RK hwa support. Initially, we will need to test and stabilize all regular functionality with the new ffmpeg. This takes time. And when we integrate the RK hw features in a new and specific ffmpeg build for those devices, this still doesn't mean that it's working automatically. There is development in Emby Server required, so that it will make use of those hwa capabilities. So it's really not something that is like just-around-the-corner. Even though this is not the kind of message you were all hoping and waiting for - I think it's not only fair but also a matter of respect towards users, not to let them get trapped in a long loop of hope and disappointment. It's definitely on the agenda, but not possible to get done by a finger-snip. Thanks

  28. Hello, I am currently trying out Emby on my Asustor NAS (current PLEX user). A few days ago, I downloaded the app on a Sony and HiSense TV (google TV OS). On both TVs the app will crash and all I get is a black screen. I have to go into app settings in Google TV to force stop Emby to resolve this. Is this a common issue on Google TV, are there any tweaks or fixes to resolve this?

  34. I guess it's mostly just familiarity with the layout of one over the other. That and the "Exit Emby?" when exiting ... in Emby Android it is just keep hitting the back arrow until the left nav menu displays the one more and you are out. In Android TV, there is an OSD confirmation that pops up. I'm learning to love Emby Android after using Emby Android TV for quite a long time...so long ago I don't remember why I chose one over the other. Some of the 'feeling' is likely attributable to having spent time tweaking the Android TV app over the years. I still am very appreciative and enjoy using Emby. Thank you for your and your team's efforts!

  40. Nevermind, it's youth slang in my country and I just can't hear it anymore Is this "TV Everywhere"? We'll have to see what we can do to integrate it directly - that's just a personal thought though, please don't take it as an announcement or commitment.

  41. MacOS lets you name your drives. I changed the name of the drive containing my media files. I didn't realize the I had to go into the emby server and change the locations. That fixed viewing movies in the ember browser viewer on the server and my Apple TV. The emby app is still not working on any devices so I have more digging to do. Says it can't connect to the server. I will dive in on that issue when I have more time. Getting it working on the Apple TV is the main thing.

  43. I’ve used that feature a couple of times, and it worked fine for basic stuff. If you're looking to make cleaner timelines or visuals to go in your preroll, check out www.officetimeline.com. It’s made things quicker for me when I wanted a graphic style that looks a bit sharper than what I could build straight in PowerPoint. Then I just exported the slide as usual after adding the extras.

  44. Hello. I have been using the Movie Theme Songs and Videos, as well as the TV Theme songs and videos for a long time now, but recently the Movie Theme Videos appears to have stopped working. I am on 4.9.0.35 beta and rolled back quite a few versions to see if I could find out when it stopped working, but that didn't help. I also rolled back the Movie Theme Videos but that did not help either. Movie Songs, TV songs and TV videos work perfectly, updating quickly as required, but when activating Movie Theme videos in scheduled tasks it gets stuck around 6% and stays there all day. If you try to stop the process you either get an error message saying a task cannot be stopped when its not running, or a 'Stopped" indication in red that also stays there all day. Only a server reboot will stop the process. Logs and screenshots attached and any guidance gratefully received. System is X86 QNAP. embyserver-3.txt

  47. Thank you Exitium. I would need to brush up on my ssh skills. Could you give me a brief outline of the process I need to kill while we wait for a fix?
    1 point
  48. Noticed this a few weeks back, and it was due to stuck ffmpeg processes from the plugin. Not sure if it was due to the source having issues or some network disruption. Had to kill those processes manually via the shell to let the plugin proceed.

  49. By telling us how many people are actually using which apps and the system as a whole. This forum is a great feedback mechanism but only a tiny portion of users will ever actually post here. It also can give us no true indication of what apps are actually in use. If we have work to do in 12 different apps we can prioritize how we do that by working on the ones that will help the most people. Knowing which ones those are is to everyone's benefit and the forums cannot tell us that.
